Wow... expensive but really worth the price. They make everything in house and it shows. Made their own ice cream and the best thing is all of desserts not too sweet. The spumoni ice cream cake wow... The pistachio and cherry portions very good. Can really taste the real flavors and not extract. Ice cream cupcakes $6.50 is worth every penny. Amazing thing is the cake is still moist. Shop is hidden behind the Territorial Savings Bank on Kapahulu. Highly recommended.

Best combo pie + ice cream. Had the Kulolo Crunch, a shortbread crust with Kuolo ice cream topped with whipped cream and candied Mac nuts. The candied mac nuts were very sweet, light and crunchy. If they sold it by the bag i'd definitely buy it and use it for everything. Highly recommend to satisfy any sweet cravings. Worth every calorie!!

Really nice unique place for dessert. There's nowhere that offers ice cream in the shape of a cake. Their flavors are also very good. Just be prepared to spend $20-30 bucks or even more if you come with more than a couple of people. Premium dessert comes with a premium price tag but it's totally worth it in my opinion as a once in a while treat.

Delicious treats and magical vibes! This cute shop offers ice cream pies (both dairy and non-dairy), ice cream cakes, cookies, and even fancy shave ice. I've loved ice cream pies and cakes since I was a kid--they were always my birthday request . On the day we visited, it was a bit rainy, and we even saw a double --truly magical. After coming down the hill, we grabbed a few ice cream pie slices to share: Snuggy Bear, Matcha Cookies & Cream, and Caramel Banana Butterfinger. We devoured them right away--they were sooo good! There are parking spots right in front, which makes visiting super convenient. We also got to meet the incredibly talented and hard working chefs/owners and their adorable dachshund. Can't wait to come back next time I'm on the island. Such a fun spot with treats for both people and pups!

Delicious cupcakes! I was recently introduced to their cupcakes. How have I not discovered it sooner?! My partner got me some cupcakes for Valentine's Day. I tried the red velvet and the strawberry with oreo. Not some ordinary cupcakes. The inside was a jam creamy filling. Satisfied my sweet tooth. Definitely love the red velvet. My partner usually don't eat sweets/desserts, he highly recommended this place. I want to stop by again for their ice cream cake slice!

Went for their restaurant week special - The Apple Pie. The store smelled heavenly when we walked in. Couldn't buy just that slice, as there were so many other delicious flavors enticing me. Walked out with 2 additional slices: the neopolitan cake slice and the caramel banana butterfinger pie slice. All so delicious! I need to try a cupcake next time.

ADDICTED to Slice by HB Baking. I got a gift card for Christmas and finally got around to trying slice this month. We've already been back and tried almost all the flavors of ice cream pies. Here's my ranking of the flavors tried: 1. Matcha cookies and cream 2. Snuggy Bear 3. Caramel Banana Butterfinger 4. Lemon Meringue (I don't even usually like lemon) 5. Strawberry Shortcake I suggest any of the pies with the Oreo crust it's so good. The textures of each pie is amazing, for example, the matcha cookies and cream has two layers of ice cream flavors, crunchy white chocolate rice crispies, and soft mochi bits. It was a favorite even by my non-matcha loving parents. I'm constantly thinking about this place--I think it's my new favorite dessert spot on the island. I can't wait to come back to try their cakes and cupcakes!

Chocolate mousse and Caramel Banana Butterfinger. Beautiful presentation as well!

If you're debating on going here, stop right now and JUST DO IT!! Go! Get one of each! Who cares!? I tried Snuggy Bear, strawberry shortcake, chocolate mousse and banana butterfinger and they were all good it's def gonna be a problem for me!

Special seasonal Kulolo ice cream pie - Ono ...

This is my go-to ice cream craving solution on Oahu. It's a small family-owned shop that creates their own ice cream and baked desserts with friendly service. Their ice cream pies are amazing and creative mix of traditional and non-traditional local flavors with complimenting toppings. Their snuggly bear (coffee almond fudge with oreo), lemon meringue (lemon sherbet and white chocolate raspberry), Matcha cookies & cream, and Strawberry Shortcake (birthday cake ice cream and strawberry) are my regular menu favorites. However, my recent favorite is their special/seasonal Kulolo ice cream pie with toffee glaze - see photo. There are a few seats at their store to eat in, but I normally take it to go since I live close by. They are currently located in Kilohana Square on Kapahulu Avenue, but are being to told to move in June 2026 since the land owner is converting it to another storage unit.:-( I hope they don't move too far away.

Craving dessert and found this place. Dogs are allowed and they have a little cutie dachshund. Our dogs aren't the friendliest but she was a sweetheart and learned how to escape! We got the strawberry shortcake and caramel banana butterfinger slice. Each slice is $9.50, pretty pricey but so good! They even have glitter on them. The owners are so sweet. We will be back to try out the other slices they have. Might even order a birthday cake from here!

I have been here twice and looking forward to many more visits to Slice by HB Baking! First off, I want to talk about their ice cream scoops. It seems like their flavors are seasonal so you must go back and check out what they have! So far I've tried: Kapahulu Mango - creamy, rich in flavor, and it literally tastes like a puréed frozen mango. Absolute bliss. Hibiki Whiskey - it tastes like a sweetened Hibiki and is heavenly! You can totally taste the flavors of Hibiki against the cream. Next up are their ice cream pies. They are sold by the slice in store and are carefully packed. The slices are also frozen well in case you need to take them home. But bring a cooler bag if you have a longer drive! Here are the flavors I've tried; Lemon Meringue - my absolutely favorite! It's tart, it's sweet, and the meringue is so good! The flavors cut through to the taste buds well and is a great treat if you're full after dinner! Strawberry Shortcake - it's sweet, well made, and feels nostalgic with the fruity pebbles and edible glitter. This is a super pretty slice! Snuggy Bear - richer, sweeter, and another great after dinner pie with its coffee taste and salted milk crumble. The toffee ice cream in this was amazing! Chocolate Mousse - rich but light! This had a strong chocolate taste but didn't feel overly sweet or heavy. Perhaps because it's a mousse? This paired beautifully with the Hibiki ice cream! (I know, ice cream on ice cream but it works!). Lastly I tried the bibingka brownie which my BF bought. It was chewy, not overly sweet, and they were so nice to ask if we wanted an edge or center piece! They are individually packed and would make a great lunch pick-me-up in the middle of the work day! Parking is easily accessible in the parking lot or street parking. My tip would be to come down on Kapahulu from the market city side so you don't need to make that treacherous left turn into Kilohana Square.

I came across this place from a review on yelp and decided to go and check them out. We got the caramel-butterfinger-banana pie, strawberry shortcake pie, strawberry cupcake and red velvet cookies&cream. It was all delicious!

Green tea ice cream with cookies and cream and rice krispie bites
    Kristi A.

I did an Uber eats delivery of this due to the lack of parking near there. The ice cream was good quality not too sweet and creamy but the rice krispie topping tasted a little stale. The mochi was tender but didn't have enough to give too much contrast to the pie together. The crust was good but when I ate all the layers together, the flavor profile with the crispy/stale tasting rice krispie was an okay experience. It wasn't a bad ice cream pie but I thought it would taste better.

Even though they mixed up the custard one, the other flavors were great. The service was faster at the main bakery. I learned that they also serve coffee so next time I'll head there and try the coffee too. Totally recommend going and trying all the flavors if you can. Heads up that there is no seating so prepare to pick up and go. Also, the parking lot is pretty small so I recommend parking in the Safeway parking lot across the street. It's a mini shopping center so should be okay to park at for a quick stop.

However, there are many alternative malasada purveyors throughout Honolulu, so I depended on local vloggers to find the best ones. This one popped up often on YouTube, and as luck would have it, we were dining at The Pig & The Lady on the next block. How calorifically convenient. We took the opportunity to stop by for a pre-dinner snack since they closed at 6PM. It's a cute shop with multiple sweets including quite a selection of housemade ice cream and delectable mouthfuls called Cake Bombs (Photo 10). We decided we would be good and ordered one unfilled Malasada each. Dusted with various sugar flavors, they were just $2.65 a piece. I went for the Coffee, while Jamie chose the daily special, Cinnamon (Photo 6). They were soft and tasty, quite comparable to Leonard's albeit a tad smaller. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing since we had dinner ahead of us. However, we let temptation get the best of us and shared a $5.50 slice of the Ube Haupia Mac Nut Bar, a yummy combination of sweet potato and ube topped with haupia (coconut milk pudding) on a macadamia nut crust (Photo 9). Truth be told, it stole the show from the malasadas. Standard generous portion for a bingsu location, notably generous for an Ala Moana location. The location itself was free of insects despite being on a ground floor location with sugary desserts everywhere. Meh: The $14 (including 15% tip) dessert tasted too light and ice-like and appeared more translucent (rather than opaque white) than expected, leading me to think the milk was watered down, which may be how the establishment can make up the cost for the portion size while maintaining a spot in Ala Moana, especially given milk prices in Hawai'i, even if you're buying from Costco or direct from farmers. Also, tables were not cleaned after each party departed; that transparent puddle on your table might not be condensation and may instead be drool drops from the toddler who sat there before you. Overall: Good (not outstanding) experience. Knocked off 2 stars for combination of suspected diluted milk + unclean tables.

Every morning, without fail, people gathered outside waiting patiently for pastries. No flashy signs. No gimmicks. Just quiet consistency. That alone intrigued me. By the second day, my mind was made up. I'm an early riser, so the plan was simple: go on my usual morning run and arrive before the rush. Japanese culture and craftsmanship have long fascinated me. Through close friends with family roots tracing back to Japan, I've developed a deep appreciation for the culture -- the discipline, the rituals, the precision, and the respect for process. There's a beauty in the intentional pace at which things are done. Nothing rushed. Nothing careless. This bakery embodied that philosophy perfectly. The space itself was small, modest, and aromatic. No overdesigned interiors. No influencer bait. Just the comforting smell of fresh bread and butter hanging in the air. Some bakeries hide behind elaborate architecture and presentation, but this place understood something more important: when the product is exceptional, the product becomes the attraction. The pastries ranged from playful and charming to elegant and refined. The Salt & Butter bread was an instant staple -- savory, warm, and impossibly light. The dough practically dissolved like air. Thankfully, nothing felt overly heavy, because I completely lost control of my ordering strategy. The Kobo Kuma -- a soft bear-shaped bun filled with homemade vanilla bean custard -- was perfection. Equal parts cute and comforting. The Cinnamon Roll was solid, but the Haupia pastry completely stole the show. For those unfamiliar, Haupia is a traditional Hawaiian coconut pudding found throughout Polynesia. The flavor here was subtle yet lingering, delicate without disappearing. The kind of flavor that quietly stays with you long after the last bite. Then came the Blueberry Danish -- beautiful, buttery, and perfectly sweet. I didn't even make it to the savory options this time, which honestly just gives me another reason to return. And I absolutely will -- whether back here in Hawaii or perhaps at one of their mainland locations in Los Angeles. Some places become popular because of hype. Others because of quality. This bakery earned its line.
