This is a definite no if you want a good solid pizza or cheesesteaks. I'll start by saying the service was nice, the woman was friendly. The east coast pizza looked soooo good in pictures and once it was in front of us but as soon as my son picked up a slice, all the toppings slipped right off of the very limp pizza. It ended up being a mess for the kids and myself scooping the cheese back onto the slices. We love thin crust pizza but they missed the mark somehow. Dough not cooked all the way? The Philly were good. I let my kids order as I caught up with a former colleague who was dining here I wish they would have opted for cheese whiz, but it just gives me another reason to come back. These Philly cheesesteaks remind me of San Leandro's hoagie steaks and Bob's hoagie steaks from Hayward. Meaning they're really good. Everything was melted nicely and the meat was cooked perfectly. This place was a huge disappointment. I wish I took photos of our food because it wasn't close to what we ordered. We ordered two small pizzas (a cheese and an espee combo.) the combo says there would be bell peppers but there weren't any at all. We also ordered a small mushroom philly, but after three other customers came in to order and receiving their food our sandwich still didn't come in. I finally brought it up to the cashier who said the ticket never printed and that she'd make the order a medium instead. So the sandwich came and there were NO mushrooms or bell peppers. Had AMAZING delivery from slice of martinex pizza. We ordered the large east coast combo and added grilled onions. Nice thin crust, flavor sauce and great ratio of toppings. The dollops of ricotta was a wonderful addition. I've never had dollops of ricotta on a pizza but it sure was a perfect topping. This pizza had such great chew and flavor that I ate way more than I should've. Was STUFFED afterwards. Cannot wait to try more pizzas from Slice of Martinez. This is my third time at this great Pizza Place. Keep in mind that I live one hour away, the pizza is that good that I don't mind making the drive. The crust is crisp and not too thin or thick. The toppings each complemented each other for a 5 star eating experience. Other half was Hawaiian like pizza, ham, pineapple and bacon. It has a name that we couldn't pronounce. It was a good pizza, a good second choice 2nd pie was West Coast (veggie) and Pepperoni. I don't care for veggie pizzas, but all of the ladies in the group killed it, and wiped the plate clean. The pepperoni is a classic that plays well with the others. We sampled the appetizers and the cheesesteak egg rolls were off the hook. That in itself could have been the meal. The mozzarella sticks were perfection, crispy outer with gooey cheese that just set your mouth into goodness orbit. Lastly, we ordered a regular cheesesteak sandwich and cut into 4 pieces. This was an another excellent choice. My top three choices in order- East Coast Pizza, cheesesteak egg roll and the cheesesteak sandwich. I wanted to find a good restaurant for a philly cheesesteak that wasn't a wide chain. When I first found this place, it was right when the new owners took over, so the schedule was a little adjusted from the written times. Waited a few weeks for them to settle in before I tried again and it was an interesting experience. This restaurant is in the middle of downtown, so it's mostly street metered parking, so check the signs accordingly. This is a counterservice place, so order at the counter and they'll bring the food to wherever you choose to sit. I got an original philly and a soda. The cheesesteak was pretty filled with the thinly-sliced beef. I wished there was a bit more cheese, as I was mostly getting the beef taste in my bites. In the end there wasn't much to stand out about the sandwich, maybe a bit more seasoning would do. The prices were also pretty high for what you get. I think it was about $18 for a large. I was also a little confused if the soda's were free refills, so I was a little reserved on drinking. I didn't see any fountain dispensers in the main dining room, but the worker said that refills were okay, but he had to go to the back to do so. So hopefully they are included and they weren't just being nice this time. If you're looking for a small shop philly, this is worth a try. Maybe try one of the other offerings besides original if you need a bit more taste. But with my current impression and pricing, this isn't an immediate return for me. read more

Our go to is the east coast combo which has a nice balance of toppings and fluffy crust and the mushroom Philly. For starters you walk-in & order up at the front before sitting down; the young man taking our order was on it, asked clarifying questions as he took our order & later followed up with us as food was brought out - great service. We started with the house salad with blue cheese dressing; the dressing came on the side - would be nice if they tossed it ahead of serving it, as then one must toss at the table, a little messy. Hubby wanted to try the cheese steak roll, so think spring roll but with Philly cheese steak filling - it was okay, tad bland & little to no flavor as to the marina sauce it's served with. We also had a small pizza, pepperoni, sausage & mushrooms; the tasted was okay; the dough needs to bake a little longer to get it crisp so it won't wilt when you pick it up. I did notice the dough appears to be fresh, now they just need to work on their cooking time. As for ambiance - must say there was none. They have several big screen TV's it was a Friday night with multiple play off games for basketball ball & hockey, yet none were on. The place could have had more folks watching the game if they had made a night of it. Plus I get that it is easier to order up front & have folks pay, but if you left the tab open on the off chance the patron wanted another beer, while watching a sports event you could drive up your bar tabs. I also noticed folks had walked in requesting a slice of pizza, there was none to be had: options have your cashiers ready to suggest getting the small pizza to the person's desire or have the basic pepperoni slice ready; to do this you would need to keep track of how many folks come in on a daily basis, say over the weekend asking solely for a slice & then figure out if it worth making a pie & selling it off in slices. I forgot to ask for peppers, but it didn't matter because the loaded beef and mushroom sammich was flavorful and smothered in cheesy goodness. Slice of Martinez is located on Main Street in Martinez. The owners are new; they recently purchased the former Slice of Italeigh. The menu still has the same great NY style recipes, and the staff is very nice. Try the cheesesteak egg rolls, OMG, delish! Here's my take on this pizza restuarant. PROs: 1. Located in a nice area with a lot of foot traffic. 2. Good service, very quick. CONs: 1. The pizzas are horrible! Using really low quality cheeses, will sink this place really quickly. 2. False advertising, Using Whole Milk Mozzarella. No it wasn't, whomever is buying the ingredients, isn't buying good ones. 3. Real lack of favor, the pizza sauce seem it was from a bucket off brand sauce.
