Me and my family are here together. Was not a bad environment really enjoyed the hospitality. The service from the waitress was really good AJ was great. She got our order in and out checked up on us frequently. Drinks from the bar were really good. The only reason why this review got 3 stars is because the food is just not there. The fish was dry and the French fries were over cooked. Pizza was really hard no flop to it. Although the Philly cheesesteak is to die for really really good and highly recommend. These guys really know how to handle a crowd. We were there the night before but we were not willing to wait the 30 minutes for an available table so we stopped in again the next day. This place is very busy(good sign) and again there was a wait time of 20 minutes we decided to wait and grabbed cocktails at the bar. We got seated at our table in less than 20 minutes and were waited on rather quickly. Our server Amanda was very attentive and calm considering the amount of tables she was juggling. The food and drinks came quick the bacon cheddar burger was cooked perfect, the wings were crispy and on the nose medium, and what I tasted of the cod was delicious. I will be returning during a slower time so i can take in the staple Adirondack tavern has to offer, hopefully I'll get a few pictures as well. read more

We always come here every year when on vacation in the ADK. The food is always good and a very relaxed, fun atmosphere. Most of the time there is a short wait but we went for lunch and were sat right away. The service was friendly and fast. We ordered a cup of clam chowder. One of the best I've tasted. I had a chicken sandwich that was very tasty and piled with toppings. The lobster Mac and cheese was really good but too small a portion for the money with no side included. What a busy place for Saturday in mid October in the ADK! A very small and crowded bar at the rear was near impossible to get to so we put our name in with the hostess and settled in for the wait. Being a party of 2 worked in our favor as a small cramped Hi-top table opened sooner than expected and we took it instead of waiting for a booth. Larger parties had a wait. Service was slow even though they were running their butts off. The menu is mostly finger foods of pizza, wings, burgers, sammy's, etc. Our order of Burger, Fish Sandwich and Onion Rings were good. I try to stop here each time that I am in the Old Forge area. It is one of my favorite restaurants there because of one single item. I am not a burger, pizza, or sandwich person when dining out so when I first looked at this menu, I thought I was going to be in trouble. Mainly, all they serve were those things and a couple others. However, I noticed that they had "Boston Baked Cod" and it was Friday, so I decided to order the one thing I thought I'd like. Ever since, I've been there three times, and have ordered this fish, all three times. It is one of the best baked fishes that I have ever had. It has a great buttery sauce and zesty spices that are baked into the fish that give it so much flavor. I will always be a fan of this fish and can't find any place that compares. The only reason I give this place 4 stars and not 5 is because it is quite pricey for what you receive, but is understandable for the area of Old Forge. Great otherwise. read more

Fly infestation! I spent most of my time trying to swat all the flies away from me, my daughter and everything else on our indoor table. Patrons at other tables nearby were also complaining to the waitress about not liking all the flies at their table. I complained to our waitress but nothing was done. I lost my appetite and wanted to leave ASAP, The food we did eat was just ok and nothing special. The noise level from kids playing pool and screaming and yelling was uncomfortable. We stopped in for lunch on a cold January day - we were the first ones there. Bottom line - 3 different lunches, all excellent. My wife got the Shimp Po' Boy and loved it; I got the cheesesteak sandwich and it may be the best I've ever had. We also shared a bowl of delicious clam chowder. The prices were reasonable, the food delicious and the service prompt and friendly. If you are in the area, this is a place you definitely want to visit. Had dinner here with the family first night in town. Service was very good. Long Island ice teas were on point. Food was good nothing spectacular, priced just right. We had fish fry, nachos, and pizza. Coleslaw was delicious, Very generous proportions. Restaurant did smell very strongly of seafood, and it wasn't the cleanest restaurant we've been to, but recommended for the area. After reading all the great Yelp reviews on Slickers I really wanted to love it.... unfortunately I didn't find it that great. On my visit I had the Garlic Wings which were really really over cooked, and filled with the taste of pure grease. Some others in my party had the Margarita Pizza which was slightly overcooked as well but had really good flavor. I'd like to someday give this place another shot.. Maybe just an off night? This place is OK, but not at all that great. I tried the French dip and it is far below par, very bland au jus and the meat was so-so, and the roll was approaching stale. Can not agree with all the rave reviews of the french dip, at all. PROS: Cold Beer, friendly folks, laid back vibe. CONS: Food is average at best, bordering on over-rated. Service is slow and most servers are handling more tables than they should be, you need to hire more servers and schedule them accordingly!!! On an Old Forge Scale, this is more like a 4, but I don't want to set your expectations too high. It does have an excellent french dip, and balboa sandwich, however the place has smelled like piss (I hope it's because they use ammonia to clean or something) 30% of the times that I visited while living in Old Forge. An couple families went with us as a group of 14, 8 kids and 6 adults. The adults sat in a circular table in the patio outside while the kids sat on the other side of the building, in a picnic table that didn't seem to be apart of Slickers, which I didn't like because we couldn't see the children. While the parents talked, the kids walked over to the Old Forge Community swimming area in one of the lakes, which was in seeing view of the porch we ate at. We had a big party 6 adults and 4 kids. They quickly accommodated us and joined 4 tables together. Drinks were quickly served and dinner wasn't far behind. I think we waited maybe 15 minutes from the time we ordered to the time we had our food. The waitress was cool and friendly. The price for 10 people was about $12 a person. Also the pizzas are bigger then you would expect. I was assuming a little bigger then a personal pan and I was wrong. They are a full sized medium-ish pizza. 8 slices a pie. The wings were so so, a little over cooked.. If your looking for a good quick place to eat I would recommend this joint. read more

Great place for a causal meal, friendly servers and pleasant views from the main dinning room. I had the tuna sandwich which was generous potion and cooked just right. The French dip sandwich is also a fair portion with lots of cheese, I would hold off on the cheese if you want to really taste the roast beef flavor. This place has been a long standing institution in the Old Forge area and is probably my favorite bar to get food at in the area. The French Dip is the best anywhere, and I mean anywhere, as I have ordered it at multiple other places in my travels across the US and none have ever come close to Slickers. All the other food is great also but I'm partial to the french dip. If your in the Old Forge area and your looking to go out to eat Slickers should be at the top of your list. Only thing to watch out for is that Slickers is EXTREMELY popular so expect to wait if your headed for dinner on a Friday or Saturday night, other nights there is normally no wait. read more

A few of us rolled into slickers late last Thursday for some wings and drinks. Lauren was working the bar and put up with our shenanigans for a few hours all the while maintaining a smile and dealing with our ridiculousness. The drinks were poured well. We had a double order of Buffalo wings, hot, as well as an order of nachos. The wings were cooked well and sauced well. 5 out of 5 on the wings. The nachos were all right, definitely plentiful, and covered in chili and all the fixings. They could have used more toppings to balance out the chip count, but beyond that they were good. We came here after a long day at Enchanted Forest. I had read the reviews and was pretty excited to try this place! I was expecting a long wait or to have to find another place to eat since there were 9 of us (and hungry kids) and it was Saturday evening. However, we only had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. The waitress was excellent! She took our order of drinks, appetizers, and entrees with 3 separate checks and didn't write anything down, and everything was exactly as ordered! The food was delicious and the prices were great! I was very impressed with our whole experience and I look forward to going back next time we're in Old Forge. I'd say Slickers is a solid 3.5 to 3.75 stars. We dined there with our two young kids (4 & 6 years old). They have a typical bar fare menu of salads, sandwiches, burgers and some seafood. We went for the sandwiches, and they did not disappoint. Nothing fancy, but the food hit the spot, and I though the price for the meal was very reasonable. They have a kids menu, and a decent selection of cocktails/wine/beer if you're looking for liquid refreshment after a day hiking in the ADK woods. DO NOT! Bring your family here! We went here in the start of July. It was a hot day out and we asked to sit inside, the hostess insisted that we sit outside. 5 minute into our dinning it started pouring. They said they had a table inside for us to move to. Great we thought! WRONG! We were a party of 7. They wanted to put us at two separate high tops at the bar. 5 of our party at one table and 2 at the other. These tables were at different areas of the room and we had a baby with us. The high chair was about two feet below the table. There was a 7 person table in the same room sitting two people but the staff refused to move us. That wasn't the worst part! It took an hour and 15 minutes to get the food. The staff was as rude as could be. The table was too small so I had to hold my salad on my lap. It was kind of funny at first but it got old quick. We were waiting forever for utensils, the waitress took over 7 minutes to get them. The whole time we had to have one person walk with the baby because she was so far below the table she was getting scared and there is no way she would have been able to eat down there. We went to talk to the manager about the problem but he could care less. All they care about here is getting their money. Not even a discount on the meal! We ended up taking our meal to go. We wanted a nice family dinner, it destroyed our trip! One of the younger kids with us was crying the rest of the night because the staff was so rude. This being said.
