came here for the first time the other day and the vibe is awesome, space is large and great for big parties, and food delicious. given it is the winter time off season it wasn't extremely crowded which was nice because the service was excellent, very friendly and fast. i was happily surprised at the amount of gluten free options they had - GF pizza (cauliflower crust), GF wraps, and GF pasta! i ordered a buffalo chicken wrap on a GF wrap with ranch instead of blue cheese and it was delish - came with a side of chips and a pickle. there are generous portions for the price and so happy to see more gluten free options available, especially since this is one of the few spots open in off season! read more

We were leaf peeping on a warm fall weekend having had breakfast at Campbells Diner on the way up we were not hungry but stopped for a drink and the view from the back door bar outdoor upper deck. Bartender was friendly and chatted with us for a quick minute as he served a large crowd. The burgers that went by as we stood there looked scrumptious and huge. I would venture to say the food must be good based on the looks of it and the size of the dining crowd. When we sat outside with the gorgeous view from the upper deck people below were getting pizzas that also looked delicious and I'd say about 18" with fresh looking ingredients. I stopped here super quick to grab some take out. It took about 15 mins to get a chicken caesar wrap and fries. For $16 (plus tip) I was expecting more but it wasn't terrible. The wrap had small diced up chicken which was very dry and didn't have enough caesar dressing. I paid extra for fries on the side, which were actually potato wedges and it was about the size of a small handful. Service was very friendly though. read more

Great local spot for the "younger" crowd (21-30s) at least later at night. Typical beer/liquor selection. Some craft beer. They have a ring game where you try to swing the ring onto a hook. Also have foosball. There is even a couch next to the fireplace. Very cozy during the winter time. Band play at this bar. This is the one thing I'm not a fan of because the bands are overly loud to the point where you have to scream to say something. This bar is not somewhere I would really come to "dance" but more to talk. With the volume of the band, I can't do that. My recommendation would be to turn down their volume just a tad. The bands are a nice additive but not that loud. The bar isn't that big to begin with. Lastly, there is an outdoor/upstairs patio which is a nice option! Recommending this bar! I like to come here every time I come up. It's more my age group rather than most of the others bars. read more

I was in Old Forge a few days after Labor Day, and picked this place solely for convenience. Ordered a Chicken Caesar wrap (to go) and was surprised at how good it was. The building looks like it was converted from an old Howard Johnson's restaurant, so wasn't expecting too much in the way of quality food. They definitely didn't skimp on the ingredients: my sandwich was stuffed with chicken. The Caesar dressing on it was homemade, with a nice tangy flavor. And the cook must have been feeling pretty good, because he even drew a little Front Door logo on the top of my to-go container. Very charming. I had to eat while driving, and my sandwich stayed hot for a good 30 minutes after I left the restaurant. The one thing that didn't please me about the Front Door is that a $1 "To Go charge" was added to my bill. Never heard of such a thing. If I'm not taking up space at a table and not demanding anything of a waitress's time, what's to justify the added charge? Overall, I enjoyed my sandwich, and would stop there again next time I happen to be in Old Forge. read more

The wings were delicious. This place feels like a cafeteria, due to the lighting, I think. The movie memorabilia on the walls was interresting. Service was decent, as was the time we waited for our food was not excessive. Up until this point I had rated this place 4 stars. The bill reflected the tourist nature of the town. $8 burgers were $10. A taste of soup was $3... Did I love that my bill was 20% higher than it should have been? Food is on point and when Pat is in the kitchen you can literally taste the love...LITERALLY. Oh you want to dance? Absolute worst place I have ever been to. Waitresses and MANAGER were so rude to us after we drove 2 1/2 hours out to old forge to enjoy a vacation. We asked why they did pitchers of water and not beer and the manager told us "because I own this place and can do what I want, don't like it? Own your own restaurant" Disgusting. We love the Front Door for breakfast and we love the back door for lunch or dinner. We have been eating breakfast at the front door for a few years now. Usually can be seated and served within 45 minutes even with a larger group. Yes in and out in 45 minutes. Try one of the other places in town for faster service and you will be sitting on the other places front porch or in the sun waiting for 30 minutes just to be seated. That is why we go to the front door for breakfast. Fast and in and out. I read the other reviews and I have never had a problem with the service. All the restaurants in Old Forge are bussy in the morning. I think the waitresses are waiting on tons of people and if I need something like a refill or a fork I ask. The waitress will always be courteous and satisfy my demands within a minute. The food is fantastic I've tried pretty much everything on the menu. If you go with large groups it's fun to share and try new things. My favorite is the fried pickles. They are so good I wish I could get fried pickles like them in the Syracuse area. Now for the Back Door they have some great tasty food and they also have good service. They have outdoor seating. I love outdoor seating in the summer and especially while being in Old Forge. The food is hot and the cocktails are ice cold. I eat mostly the sandwiches here. I always ask the waitresses what they like and order from there suggestions. I have never had a bad meal at the Back Door or bad service. After 8pm the bar does attract a crowd of drinkers ready to party. The partiers are all mixed in age so don't hesitate to check it out if your looking to kick back. I will continue to visit the Front and Back Door on every Old Forge trip. read more

I wanted to try this place because the location got me curious, right in the middle of Old Forge. There was not that much chicken in the chicken and biscuits dish. The gravy was salty and didn't really have any flavor. Biscuits tasted good and mashed potatoes seemed fresh & made from potatoes. Kids meal pizza was bad even for a kids meal pizza. Service was acceptable but not great. The food took awhile to come out and that surprised me because we mostly ordered things very simple to assemble like sandwiches and salad. I had the extreme misfortune of eating here today while the food was mediocre at best it's the service that really disappointed. After waiting a long time for anyone to even greet we were finally waited on by a less than attentive server who did not refill coffees and brought our food but not silverware until asked, I guess we were lucky though since the couple behind us waitress told them they would have to wait to order since she had other things to do. My final complaint is the mandatory gratuity for parties of 6 or more (must be the only way they get tips) my baby should not have counted no way was the service worth 18%. It's no wonder to me that we were able to get right in here when every other restaurant in town had at least a 30 minute wait needless to say we won't be back. read more

I was in Old Forge with my family on the way up to Lake Placid this summer. We stopped here for a quick lunch and we got an order of the clam strips. They were delicious and my dad said they were the best ones he's ever had. I had a BLT on rye for lunch, with chips on the side. When the food came out, my sandwich was large in size, and the bread was lightly toasted and crunchy. The sandwich itself was very good, but there was a long hair on top of it. On top of that, the service was pretty bad. All in all a decent place, if not for the hair I would give 4 stars, but the food was so good that I can excuse it a little. read more
