And don't forget about the dogs demanding your attention at this dog-friendly site. I appreciate the growing number of breweries in the Glens Falls-Lake George area, but honestly, if I'm coming to the area with friends, we'll come here first.

It was very crisp and refreshing, with a prominent but not overwhelming floral palate. Food options are limited to popcorn and snacks plus whatever food truck might be there, so check their calendar of events for that. Also, payment in cash will be 50 cents cheaper per pour than paying by credit.

Take the hint you don't need 17 easy to make no effort IPAs that all taste the same. Food seems like an afterthought here. It's consistently average. They make a decent pizza here, but it's always soggy. The outside crust typically is perfect, often with a light char which is nice, but underneath the cheese and sauce, which they to put too much of on and undercook it, you wind up with a soggy slice of pizza that tastes OK. I also had their poutine recently. I can live with the vegetarian turkey gravy, which tasted pretty good, cheese curds were OK but what's going on with these fries? Soggy, brown. Are they brown because they're fry oil is disgusting? Are they just cooking the crap out of these things. I can't imagine that's the case because they're not crispy at all and taste awful. Waiting and bar staff seem to be wonderful people- they're attentive, food comes out relatively quickly. Service is not rushed. Atmosphere in this place is pretty good though I would like to have the music turned up a little bit louder so it's just not background noise and so you can actually hear the lyrics or discern what song is being played. Music done right can be part of the experience. Right now it's just a soft rumble in the background and it just becomes an annoyance. There's literally been extensive research on music in your restaurant and bar and how loud it's supposed to be and the music selection. Why places like this pay absolutely no attention to that research is beyond me. MUSIC IS IMPORTANT! Treat it that way please. Unfortunately, after sampling a good mix, I could not find a single brew that pleased my palate. I got a flight with a sour, the red ale, a brown ale, and a stout. Nothing distinguished itself to me. That will happen sometime, everyone has different tastes. But based on the fact that this place was constantly full the entire time I was there, and the service everyone received, the beers and the taproom are quite popular. So it's definitely worth checking out. Perhaps if I visit again I'll find beer(s) more to my liking.

The facility is quite small as a bar area where you could sit three or four people and a couple of tables that each could host about four people per table- no more than 16 or 18 seats in the facility. They don't have food, but they will give you pretzels and peanuts on the house which is a nice touch considering there isn't another brewery in the region that does this. If you're going to open the first brewery in a town that has been dry for almost 100 years (in case…read moreyou were wondering why Argyle Brewing is one town over...) you'd better do it right. And this place does it more than right. Opening in November shortly after the ordinance allowing alcohol sales in the town, Highlander brews excellent beers served in a lovely setting. Billing themselves as a "farm to pint" brewery, Highlander is situated on a beautiful, sprawling farm, where they grow their own hops and barley (used in their own products as well as to produce malt for themselves and to sell to other local brewers). While they have a cool indoor taproom, the current Covid restrictions naturally mean that outdoor seating with food options are the current setting, which only allows you to enjoy their excellent beer with a lovely outdoor view. I tried the Fir Baby, a hazy ale with that might be a great option for people who dislike the overpowering hophead IPAs--the beer featured the unique touch of fir tips from farm Christmas trees in lieu of/to supplement traditional hops, creating an interesting flavor profile. The other beer I tried was simply excellent, a Brown Maple Ale. Now I love brown ales and I love maple syrup, but offerings like this always make me a little nervous, as I fear they inevitably turn out too sweet. Not this, which had a wonderful beer flavor with just that slight maple hint at the end--according to the brewer, the maple is added in fermentation and not after. At any rate, it was subtle and wonderfully done. My friend tried the Blonde Ale and the Strawberry Rhubarb Blonde and enjoyed them both. Diverse beer offerings (a couple of IPAs on the menu as well), all reasonably priced and most in the 5-6.5% ABV range. Would have liked to try a stout, but they said they usually feature those more in the winter than the summer, which is understandable. The food truck was a nice touch--if it's not just a Covid tack-on, I think it would be a great idea to keep. Having a few options (such as the tasty mozzarella sticks) to try with the beer was a nice touch, and probably kept us there a bit longer. Staff was friendly--our server Nicole was great and knowledgeable about the beers, and as mentioned, one of the owners, Jeff, swung by to ask how we were enjoying everything and discuss the beers and ingredients with us. Also as mentioned, a very lovely setting to enjoy a beer. A bit tough to get to/off the main road, but the trip--and the beer--is certainly worth it.

Well, I finally got here, and it was indeed worth it for me. The space is large and comfortable. Parking is convenient, usually spaces on US 9 right in front of their entrance is almost always available, and their downtown location makes it very convenient to visit other businesses. One of the reasons I like Mean Max so much is my preference for darker beers. They always have a number of them available, enough to make a flight of just those if you want (flights here are five 5oz. glasses), with quite a range of ABV's, if that matters to you. While the Troy taproom has numerous pinball machines, here they only have one Golden Tee with a large screen for it on the wall (something my friends would love). This area of Glens Falls is definitely worth a visit, and Mean Max should be part of it.

This place has such a homey vibe and you feel welcome right away. The staff greeted my boyfriend and I and walked us through all of the beer and food offerings.
