Been here three times and the beer is seriously great! One of the very few microbreweries that makes pilsners. This last time we went (Feb '24) they had TWO Pilsner styles and both were fantastic. Decor is a little sparse- They have this awesome bar with a big mirror woodwork, etc (that I hear they salvaged from another place) and it's empty. We came for lunch and had chicken tenders, a hot dog and a chicken ceasar wrap. Everything was delish, and there are plenty of kid-friendly options. Beer is always fab (as expected) and they have a huge variety. They don't sell as much in cans unfortunately, but there are a few flavors available if you want to purchase some to take home. Service is always friendly, and they keep the calendar packed with fun events and live music. Overall this is a Bolton Landing favorite and we always look forward to visiting.

But their single lager and single pilsner are always good/consistent. And they have one meddle/award that they are proudly showing off, and they should but guess what kind of beer it is? A Pilsner. Take the hint you don't need 17 easy to make no effort IPAs that all taste the same. Food seems like an afterthought here. It's consistently average. They make a decent pizza here, but it's always soggy. The outside crust typically is perfect, often with a light char which is nice, but underneath the cheese and sauce, which they to put too much of on and undercook it, you wind up with a soggy slice of pizza that tastes OK. I also had their poutine recently. I can live with the vegetarian turkey gravy, which tasted pretty good, cheese curds were OK but what's going on with these fries? Soggy, brown. Are they brown because they're fry oil is disgusting? Are they just cooking the crap out of these things. I can't imagine that's the case because they're not crispy at all and taste awful. Waiting and bar staff seem to be wonderful people- they're attentive, food comes out relatively quickly. Service is not rushed. Atmosphere in this place is pretty good though I would like to have the music turned up a little bit louder so it's just not background noise and so you can actually hear the lyrics or discern what song is being played. Music done right can be part of the experience. Right now it's just a soft rumble in the background and it just becomes an annoyance. There's literally been extensive research on music in your restaurant and bar and how loud it's supposed to be and the music selection. Why places like this pay absolutely no attention to that research is beyond me. MUSIC IS IMPORTANT! Treat it that way please. Ultimately, even though the food is averaged to below average, and I can't hear the music, we continue to come back here because of the beer . Imagine if they put the same effort into their menu...

Update: Paradox replied to my post above with an explanation for the thin patty that day (supplier issues that kitchen tried to substitute for). They offered me a comp burger on my next visit (appreciated!). I've met other Paradox reps and they are all good people and evidently care very much about their quality assurance. And as I said, the beer is really good.

If you're going to open the first brewery in a town that has been dry for almost 100 years (in case…read moreyou were wondering why Argyle Brewing is one town over...) you'd better do it right. And this place does it more than right. Opening in November shortly after the ordinance allowing alcohol sales in the town, Highlander brews excellent beers served in a lovely setting. Billing themselves as a "farm to pint" brewery, Highlander is situated on a beautiful, sprawling farm, where they grow their own hops and barley (used in their own products as well as to produce malt for themselves and to sell to other local brewers). While they have a cool indoor taproom, the current Covid restrictions naturally mean that outdoor seating with food options are the current setting, which only allows you to enjoy their excellent beer with a lovely outdoor view. I tried the Fir Baby, a hazy ale with that might be a great option for people who dislike the overpowering hophead IPAs--the beer featured the unique touch of fir tips from farm Christmas trees in lieu of/to supplement traditional hops, creating an interesting flavor profile. The other beer I tried was simply excellent, a Brown Maple Ale. Now I love brown ales and I love maple syrup, but offerings like this always make me a little nervous, as I fear they inevitably turn out too sweet. Not this, which had a wonderful beer flavor with just that slight maple hint at the end--according to the brewer, the maple is added in fermentation and not after. At any rate, it was subtle and wonderfully done. My friend tried the Blonde Ale and the Strawberry Rhubarb Blonde and enjoyed them both. Diverse beer offerings (a couple of IPAs on the menu as well), all reasonably priced and most in the 5-6.5% ABV range. Would have liked to try a stout, but they said they usually feature those more in the winter than the summer, which is understandable. The food truck was a nice touch--if it's not just a Covid tack-on, I think it would be a great idea to keep. Having a few options (such as the tasty mozzarella sticks) to try with the beer was a nice touch, and probably kept us there a bit longer. Staff was friendly--our server Nicole was great and knowledgeable about the beers, and as mentioned, one of the owners, Jeff, swung by to ask how we were enjoying everything and discuss the beers and ingredients with us. Also as mentioned, a very lovely setting to enjoy a beer. A bit tough to get to/off the main road, but the trip--and the beer--is certainly worth it.

Normally, we're not too big on places with food trucks; however, this place had four food trucks, two of which looked like we would order from. Their beer was absolutely terrific! Couldn't recommend their wines though. I ordered their double IPA while my wife ordered one of the local wines they had on their list. The wine made it for two sips and I truly enjoyed the double IPA! My wife ended up switching to a blackberry sour they had on tap. We utilize the marketplace food truck. There was a combo special paste it on their side for smoked wings and smoked ribs. Combo with one side. My wife ordered the meat eaters flatbread. We also ordered an additional side of shoestring fries. I thought my smoked wings and ribs were absolutely delicious! After some seasoning, the shoestring fries were OK. Unfortunately, the meat eaters flatbread really needed some additional seasoning. Italian seasoning? Oregano? Just something more. That said, we can fully recommend the Raquette River Brewing! Great beers, and a very clean and lovely environment. PS, our server did a great job as well! She was friendly and professional! We even walked out with a crowler of American IPA!
