Stopped here today specifically because we wanted fried pickles. It was very busy, but it took a crazy amount of time in the drive thru to get our food. We got home and guess what we didn't have...pickles. I called and asked for a refund which they said would take a week to go back on my card. Not once did I get an apology for the mistake. This is very poor service in my opinion. Accidents happen, but at least acknowledge your mistake. The food was also very bland. The Mac and cheese was not good. We will not be returning. It was not worth the 40 dollars for for two adult meals, one child's meal, and missing pickles. read more

As a loyal customer that constantly visit slim chickens I know about the wait because they make fresh food, we normally wouldn't stop by so late but for various reasons we just needed a quick side of okra to get us home to cook more food. We waited in drive thru for over 20 minutes because of the guy ahead of us I complained when we reached the window and they had no intentions of making it right and in less words said tough luck. I'll take this place over Raising Cane's any day. Everything is hand breaded in house. Wings are pretty good. The strips may seem small but that's because they're only thinly breaded, which rocks. The appearance is deceiving because the strips are dense. I highly recommend the spicy BBQ sauce, it brings a touch of heat. The house Slims sauce easily takes Cane's sauce's lunch money. Do yourself a favor and try the Mac & cheese. The fried mushrooms are spectacular. Not just for a fast food joint. They taste homemade. And lastly, you can get beer here. Seemed as though the chicken wasn't seasoned or marinated in anything. Very bland. The slim's sauce was almost tasteless. Beading on the tenders I was expecting to be more than it was. Not crunchy or seasoned. The sweet tea was not sweet. Abundant choices for sauces, we got a few of each to try so we'd know what we'd want next time. The slim's sauce looked like raising canes sauce but lacked any flavor. The other sauces were ok, but nothing that makes me crave going back. I guess being accustomed to raising canes.... Slim Chickens just can't compare to them. I know raising canes is a sure thing and has never had anything wrong in all the times I've gotten food from there. Perhaps this was all the result of them being new to town and overwhelmed by the amount of customers they have had. However, I don't have any desire to try them again for a long time. Slim Chicken is the worst res I've ever been. I ordered 8 wings plate and you know what? They served me the fresh wings. I found that at least 3/8 wings were really cold and not fried at all. It seemed like they took out the wings from the fridge, dipped them into the sauce and served the customers. I just wanted to get my money back but I didn't want them to see me as a trouble maker so I just walked away. The cashier was a teenager who seemed very nice. However, after I ordered, I waited over 30 minutes only for food that is cold and an odd gesture from another (adult) worker. Not bad but they are good enough. The portions are fair and so is the price. The staff is friendly and if your nice to them you get free stuff. Raising canes is fine but it's a grease pit as well, so is every other place that makes fried food. I can't compare many food places in the US to restaurants in Lincoln. Unfortunately for Slim Chickens, we have two Raising Cane's in Lincoln, which it will undoubtedly draw comparisons to. While the atmosphere was nice (modern Southern), the food is not what I was expecting. With any place that boasts two menu items that are practically the same, one would expect the items to be done well. While we didn't try the wings, the tenders were not coated in a way that lead to a satisfying crunch; it was a very soft breading. This breading probably works well on wings but it's underwhelming on tenders. The meal comes with fries, "Texas" toast, and a drink. The toast is a joke, it's a piece of white bread cut diagonally and rubbed with garlic butter, but it is not worthy of the denomination of Texas toast. The fries are quite good, better than Cane's due to crunch factor and being skin on fries. With a meal you get one or two sauce options; we opted for gravy, slim's sauce, and cayenne ranch, all of which were good but not extraordinary. Slim Chickens would be a good substitute if we didn't have Cane's in Lincoln but the weak breading and sad toast detract from an otherwise worthy opponent to Cane's. Note: Cane's and Chickens offer the same meal (7 tenders, fries, toast, and a drink) for the same price point ($9.99), so it's really personal preference and whether you want to brave the lines and awful parking lot at Chickens. read more

I personally like this place better than Canes, mainly because I have more choices for dipping sauces. And the breading isn't near as heavy, which I prefer. This place has great chicken fingers. They are VERY lightly breaded, which makes them appear small, but you can actually taste the chicken. (If you like piles of tasteless breading, go to Cane's.) Plus, you have your choice of many sauces, and you can get chicken and waffles, which you can't get at Cane's. Mac and cheese is great, fries are great but can be overly salty at times, cole slaw is great (not overly sweet), okra is great, salads are great. My son says the desserts are great. I've never gotten anything here that I wouldn't eat again. If you're in a hurry, don't go through the drive-thru. Every meal is cooked up hot and fresh, and it can sometimes take awhile. Slim Chicken is very good in our book as for chicken fingers. #1- it is not heavy breaded or grease full. Has a nice light coating and they fry up after you order #2- you do not have to have French Frys. They have other things. We love the different sauces to choice from. WE like the different kind of brew teas. We never had a bad meal or time there. A nice sit down place to sit and talk until your food comes and then leave us alone we are enjoying it all. Only customer in restaurant Oct 27 during Husker game. Four TVs and I asked to please turn on the Husker game. Very young waitress said they would. Never did. Again no customers in the restaurant.
