I was in the area visiting and decided to give this place a try. There's a lot of street parking. The place was beautiful. You walk in and that's where you order. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. We ordered two vanilla lattes. The cost was reasonable. You go up a couple of steps and that's where there's a ton of seating. Very casual place. People seem to gather there and work from their laptops, and hang out for a bit. I don't blame them. It's a super chill place to just chill...and the coffee is great! My favorite coffee place in Boise. This is because they actually make their lattes and such from scratch. They come up with some incredibly good flavor combinations. My all time favorite, so far, is the Bedford Falls. I highly recommend it!! It's a just the perfect amount of sweetness, and I usually have mine in coconut milk. It's perfect, especially on a chilly day. Soooo comforting. If I lived closer, I would go here every day, so it's probably good I don't live next door or I'd go broke. Anyway, I highly recommend you give them a try, and even more importantly, I urge you to try something you've never had before. That's their specialty. read more

I've been here several times and have always been impressed! I am a coffee fanatic, and while the goal is to try as many coffee shops as I can, I'm always lured back to Slow By Slow because I know I'll leave happy. They possess a uniqueness that outshines many coffee shops in Boise, and the product is delicious! And yes, they really are slower than average joints but for good reason. You don't get great espresso without having to be a little patient. During my most recent visit I ordered an 8 ounce Demagorgon IV oatmilk latte. This was their speciality Halloween blend with beans from Brandywine Coffee Roasters (Wilmington, DE). The tasting notes read waffles, maple syrup, jam, peaches and butter. I tend to have my drinks served as lattes for the thick, creamy texture. I was blown away by how accurate the tasting notes described the brew. It was really rich, I could only really enjoy the drink through small sips with time in between. My husband got a Costa Rican brew that was not as tasteful but equally satisfying. If there's anyone looking for a coffee shop with a little pizzazz I highly recommend Slow by Slow. Not your average cup of joe! read more

TLDR: Not my wife's cup of coffee. So there are two main types of coffee bean, a bitter kind and a sour kind. My wife prefers the bitter coffee bean. Another thing about this coffee shop is that it rotates their coffee blends. Not sure how often they rotate it, as we were from out of town. On that day we visited, the shop's two blends were of the sour kind. My wife is a discerning coffee drinker... she can get past the main coffee flavor to detect the subtle notes and hints of flavor. Me? It all tastes bitter and disgusting. What does this all mean? Well, you'll see. I forget the exact name of the blend we ordered, but I remember distinctly it said it had a sweet, caramel, syrupy hint to it. Now, my wife always has her coffee with no sugar at all, so I was curious if a coffee bean could naturally be sweet. So I waited for her to sip it for a while, before I asked her if she tasted the sweetness. Result? No, at least this coffee bean wasn't naturally sweet. My wife didn't really care for the coffee, as it was the sour kind. However, that's not really the fault of the coffee bar. Perhaps they could try to rotate their blends so there's always one bitter and one sour? Also, it seems to come off pretentious when they mention the "subtle notes" of the coffee roast, as if it were some kind of wine. But maybe my wife is too pedestrian to notice. I dunno... you'll have to try it for yourself. I'd suggest ordering it blind, and then see if you can taste any hints. Then look at the description to see if it matches. So although she didn't like it, we're still giving it 4 stars. The coffee is still way above "Diner Coffee", which itself is above "Coffee Water". read more

Nice independent coffee shop downtown Boise, with a friendly barista and a cool vibe. I tried their coffee with a Nutella croissant, the latte was very good, the croissant however was soggy, didn't seem fresh. I also tried their Earl Grey tea, the barista did explain that it was different from the traditional Earl Grey in that it had other fruits flavors instead of bergamot. It was alright, but I prefer traditional Earl Grey with bergamot. Overall a good experience. read more

It is no wonder Slow By Slow has been recommended to me by so many. I work at the Trader Joe's in downtown Boise so whenever I ask someone where the best coffee shop is, their response is always "Slow By Slow has the best coffee in Boise you have to go." I finally stopped in with my friend Ellen to see what all the hype was about. I concluded after taking my first sip of my vanilla latte that the hype is well deserved. I had never had a better latte in my life. They make the drink right in front of you and converse with you while they're doing it! I was informed by the barista making my drink that they make their syrups in the store. I have never heard of a coffee shop doing this so I was curious to try it out. Definitely better than a Starbucks or Dutch Bros. If you have time to sit down and fully enjoy this place and their coffee, please do. This is the thick as thieves of coffee in Boise- feels like a cocktail bar experience. If you want a typical syrup-based sweet latte, this isn't it. I love how original their flavors are and the craft that goes into each one. The butternut spice latte is fall in a cup- it's one of the best lattes I've ever had. The old fashioned latte they had over the summer was amazing as well. Plenty of work space and very friendly staff. Drinks are on the more expensive side, but it's clear as to why that is. My husband and I were downtown Boise shopping and I wanted a cup of coffee. It was cold and wet outside and coffee sounded good. The location is by the Bodo, pretty much next to it. Not sure if it's considered to be in the BoDo or not. The atmosphere is very downtown Boise--brick walls and industrial ceilings and modern decor. On Saturdays we usually go to the nearest large coffeehouse drive thru, but on this day, since we were downtown, it seemed fitting to go to an independent place. I'm so glad we did! Poor customer service. We wanted to buy a sweater in a size that wasn't hanging. Employee said she was too busy and to come a different day. We responded that we're from out of town. She said she was too busy to go get it. The response should've been "since your drinks are for here, do you mind if I go get the sweater when I have a moment?" I'm a retail manager and that wouldn't fly with me. They were steady, but they were not that busy. And at one point, there was nobody in line and drinks were all made. Then I needed regular sugar but there was only stevia available. So I ask. I'm told it's the bottle of simple syrup next to the stevia. There's maybe a tbsp left. It looks like they need to be better prepared before opening. The matcha latte was 2/5 stars and lukewarm. Fritter was cold and unappetizing. read more

It's hard not to like Slow by Slow, they have knowledgeable staff if you're into either espresso or pour over that seem to genuinely care about the craft. They work quickly and will help you out if you have questions about what they are serving or what you can buy. The coffee is excellent, they pull amazing espresso that is intricate and not under extracted. Their pour over is well timed and dosed. It's good coffee, with good process. Their seating area is quite nice. Lots of options to where you can sit, just be prepared to share a table if you do spend a lot of time there. Only thing they lack is food options (they have some baked goods), but you're on 8th, there's no need for them to carry focus on anything but the thing they are good at. read more

There was a double walled cup I saw that I was tempted to get, but then had a change of heart after trying out my order. My low stars review is because I ordered an oat milk latte here and it was completely sour/bad. I don't know if it was just a me incident, but it could have also been their beans? I don't know. One of the unique things here is you get to pick your roast. You chose between Ritual (which is from SF) or some other roast. Being from SF, I thought well I don't want Ritual because I can get that any day. So I choose the other roast. Maybe the choice of beans is why my oat milk latte was so bad? I'm not sure. read more

The employees seem to enjoy what they do and they pull extremely tasty and technically perfect shots.
