With a road trip to STL and some InKind cash burning a hole in my phone, I decided to try a duck donuts for the first time as a road snack. I write there around 9:45 on a Wednesday morning and I was the only customer. First impression was it's a pleasant enough space but not someplace I would necessarily eat in. The man at the counter was very helpful when I told him I wanted one of the half-dozen sampler boxes. He suggested the breakfast half dozen, which i got. It was cool watching them make everything fresh. I don't think I would've been that happy waiting in line because this wasn't what I'd call fast service but loved getting fresh donuts. My favorite was actually probably the one that had the cinnamon sugar on top. read more

I'm generally pretty easy to please, but my experience at Duck Donuts was pretty disappointing. Here's why: 1. Unfriendly service. I walked in at 9am and was the only customer. The server barely looked up, didn't say hi when I greeted him and made me wait a full minute before serving me. Not a great first impression. He didn't talk much during the entire ordering process. 2. While the storefront is tastefully decorated, it's very dirty. Dust and grime everywhere. The counters were covered in old icing - just unclean surfaces everywhere I looked. The server didn't take off his gloves and used them to touch the computer screen and take my bills and change, then grabbed my donut with them. Gross. 3. Very small donut. I ordered a specialty seasonal donut that looked gorgeous in pictures but got a tiny, unimpressive little thing instead. Not worth the $. I really love seeing small businesses succeed and I hope they can make these important changes asap! Until then, not planning to come back. read more

I've visited Duck Donuts all over the country and THIS LOCATION was by far the worst...my family and I drove over an hour to this location over 6 months ago and still feel the sting of our experience...We purchased two dozen donuts and they were ALL ice cold...we literally come here for the cook to order donuts and our family has never been so disappointed...the worker offered a card for their district manager to replace the order but the visit was so disappointing our family no longer even craves Duck Donuts and before we couldn't get enough of Duck Donuts in our hometown.. read more

It's difficult to rate Duck Donuts because my rating completely depends on how quickly you eat the donut after it's made. If you're able to eat it right after coming off the conveyer after watching the donut decorated in front of you, then they are fantastic. However, the clock starts on the donuts once it's handed over. The longer you wait, the less enjoyable the pastry becomes. And if you purchase a dozen, the donuts that sit around for several hours before being eaten aren't that great at all. The donuts are colorful and I love the idea of a donut breakfast sandwich, but make sure not to wait too long before eating your donuts for the best flavor. donuts were delicious. We were there on Sunday, August 3 around 11 AM. There were two teens working behind the counter. The young man was polite and helpful; the young woman was diffident. We ordered our donuts with a minimum amount of conversation. Then we watched as our donuts got made. As we took our box of donuts to go sit outside, we realized there were no napkins. I observed to the girl that there were no napkins and she acted like she was going somewhere, but never brought back napkins. Then I asked the young man if we could get some napkins and he looked around a bit and came out with a package of napkins. We sat outside to eat, but had to clean our own table. Then went inside to dump our garbage, but both garbage cans were overflowing. There was a minimum amount of traffic while we were there. What an intriguing business name and concept. We just had to try it out. In the past several years I have found myself avoiding donuts because they are usually too sweet & hurt my teeth or are too heavy feeling in my stomach and of course, wreck the healthy diet. That being said, I was weak and ate all of my donut instead of sharing with my husband as he suggested. Donut style: Cake ... Do not let anyone detour you with the 'they only serve cake donuts'. These are NOT your usual cake donuts. By the way, I think if you ordered one without frosting I think you would find the cake donut 'as light as air'. But I digress.. You customize your cake donut with your choice of frosting, topping & drizzle. Plenty of unique options. I told the Ryan (one if the owners) that I wish this place was on my way to work as I am very interested in trying the breakfast sandwiches and coffee drinks. I will not be back to the Leawood, Ks store. We were there on a Thursday morning and the only customers. The employee was just sitting when he should have been cleaning. It was filthy. All the table were dirty, the front door and glass windows at the counter were filthy. The bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned in days with overflowing trash,sticky door handle, (eww) etc. The one employee was nice enough, but not real personable. Forgot my buttercream for the donut holes, and forgot my daughters' drink. Had to go back twice for forgotten items. Now for the donuts. Pretty pricey and skip the ones with the drizzle cuz mine was swimming in sauce. Made the donuts soggy. My daughter did like her donuts, but they had no sauce on top. They are opening one in Olathe and a word to the management, keep a better eye on your stores. If the font of the store looks this bad, makes me wonder what the back looks like. It was different! I am pretty basic when it comes to sweets - so I just tried this off of a recommendation. I ordered a glazed donut and added bacon...I also ordered another donut that had cinnamon and powdered sugar ( I think). To be honest I partially ate the glazed/bacon. Any time you can have a doughnut served warm, it is a great day in my book! I love being able to pick the toppings and customize the flavors, and then walk right down the road and see them being made. The staff is friendly, although having each person get custom donuts can take a while. There's ample seating, and that helps if you want to eat the donuts warm. read more

Just came in this evening since my family has been craving it for so long. We were here a year ago and missed it! I walk in and the service isn't very friendly. The place was also dead. I place my order and then get told that their credit card machine is down and they can only take cash for the time being. This happened the last time we were here as well. I didn't have cash but I ordered through the app last time and paid that way. I tried that again and the app says it cannot connect to this location. Great!! We end up leaving to go get cash. We're gone for a good 20-30 minutes: I come back and place my order but the cashier tells me the order is still in the system. I pay and then my order is all done within a few minutes, odd because it usually takes over 5+ minutes since it's made fresh. I get to the car and we open the box and the donuts are cold. My husband goes back in and asks why and they tell him they made it while we were gone. We ask for them to make it fresh so it's warm since that's what Duck Donuts is known for and the two employees copped an attitude. They ended up making 2/3 donuts fresh but it totally ruined our experience. We won't be back. Such a shame since we used to love coming here. The customer service and payment systems need to improve. They also charge for cups of water and they no longer have tea which is a bummer. read more

They have an online ordering system that allows you to pick out all the goodness so you don't have to wait for then there. What in the world is the fuss about? They are made to order, lots of flavor choices, very expensive. (3 donuts were $8) But they tasted awful, donut was doughy (not fully cooked), and I've tasted better donuts at QuikTrip! I had a chocolate donut-- how can you mess that up? The chocolate was runny, bitter, grainy with some undisolved sugar, and chocolate went everywhere but on the donut. Chocolate stuck to fingers, teeth, box. Peanut butter donut had same problems. Ring the bell folks, we've got a winner. Duck Donuts is easily considered one of the top donut shops in the KC metro. I'll admit, I only get donuts about once a year and I always used to lean on the classic, John's Space Age, which recently shuttered in Overland Park. I also like Fluffy Fresh in Mission, but Duck Donuts trumps them and here's why: They make their donuts fresh to order. It makes their donuts always the top quality, customizable, warm (underrated factor) and most importantly, AVAILABLE! I went to Fluffy Fresh a few times around 7 a.m. in the past only to have them say they're out of most donuts. Why?! Keep on making them, it takes two minutes. Duck Donuts sees that weakness and totally capitalizes. They have many classics, seasonal favorites, and you can whip up just about any combo imaginable. At the end of the day, most sugary fried dough is going to give that dopamine rush and taste delicious, but for my money, Duck Donuts and Hana's Donuts in KCK take the prize as the top shops around. read more

Duck Donuts is a wonderful place to experience a fun doughnut that is served warm. They have so many different options to build your own doughnut and some great concoctions for those less inventive. However this is not what I would call your old fashioned donut shop. You can get a bare minimal donut but for the same price as a "bedazzled" donut. They are not wimpy on toppings. It is just too much for me. Beautiful cake donut underneath though. They are a fabulous gift idea, party dessert or even just an alternative to a birthday cake. With so many toppings choices, they get something wrong with my order each time, but the customer service is always so nice and they're always happy to fix/ add what they forgot. Each donut is made fresh. The service was friendly and amazing. The coffee was good. Not vegan or GF options even in prepackaged foods. They don't claim to have any so I'm Not taking any stars off for that. This was our first time at the new location out on State Line Road. I was conficted about whether to give another 5 rating or drop it down to a 4. These are excellent donuts. Since they are served warm, they have a very tender cake crumb. The store is featuring banana flavored donuts currently and that is a favorite that goes well with almost all their toppings. To provide some critical feedback, the two most signicant things are that they are sugary--really sweet. They should probably offer a lightly coated option and I bet lots of people would do this. It had been a while since I had their donuts, so I didn't think about this but, I am sure they would do it since they make each donut to order. Second, the coffee was on the cool side. It might be because they added the cream for me but irregardless, it turned the coffee cooler than lukewarm. A few other small details...if you have a baby, be aware they currently do not have high chairs. Staff is very friendly and mentioned that they had ordered some. Lastly, they were out of mini chocolate chips...Very sad when they are featuring banana donuts. However, with sprinkles, bacon, chocolate, peanuts, coconut,caramel, marshmallow etc frostings, drizzles and toppings...it was easy to find a substitute.
