This is a very nice place to grab a lite lunch or breakfast and do some work. They had a good choice of music playing at a nice volume. We were able to work, talk and eat. I had the spinach and bacon flat bread...it was very good. It had a little much sauce for me but I will ask for less sauce next time and I'm sure it will be perfect. What a cute coffee shop! We came late at night got the chai (not my favorite, too sweet and not enough spices), caramel macchiato (very very good) and played some games. They had battleship, sorry, and a few other games. They also sell some t-shirts and some other goodies. The atmosphere was relaxed and service was very polite, would definitely recommend. read more

Slowpokes is one of my new favorite coffeeshops in the Heights; the interior and decorations are all super cute and quirky, and the people there are very friendly. I've never had trouble parking or finding space to do work, even on the weekends (and I can't say that about all coffeeshops in Houston). It's a little bit out of the way for me and most of my friends in the Rice area, but it's definitely worth a trip out every once in a while! read more

Customer service - The baristas are so nice. They greet you as soon as you walk in and very helpful with recommendations. Cleanliness - They are constantly refilling the water jug, sweeping the floor, and wiping down the tables. They never fail to make this place look spotless for those that come in. Restrooms are very clean too. You're in for a cute surprise when you go. Coffee & Chews - I've never had a bad cup here. One of the baristas who works here now used to work at throughgood coffee! I enjoy their cold brew. As for food, I've had the chicken pesto panino and it was delicious! It's a very decent sized portion and the pretzel bread that came with the sandwich was yummm. Most of all, I am in love their slowpokes theme. All of the decor on the shelves to what hangs on the wall is what really makes this place. There are little cubicle spaces with marble tables against the wall. I look for these spots but they are usually occupied so sit here if you get the chance. Ordered the bagel with lox and cream cheese. A+! There was an adequate amount of lox and they didn't slather on the cream cheese like some places do. (I know it sounds like sacrilege, but I sometimes have to scrape off the over abundance of cream cheese on my bagel at other breakfast spots.) It's a nice spot but not the best to work at. You have to purchase something every two hours to use their Wi-Fi, which is a new change. I think the spot is better for meetings or quick chats. It has a good variety of foods and drinks, which I appreciate. read more

I love themed coffee bars!! This one was seriously so cute. Centered around sloths, turtles, snails (slow animals). Also, they had a great menu selection. Came here for a late breakfast. Plenty of parking in the lot but street parking is also available. Pretty packed at 10am but doesn't seem to be a problem with seating. A few big family-style tables, bar seating, and smaller tables for 1-2 people. Ordered the salmon bagel and vanilla latte. Both were delicious but the latte was especially good. Frankly, I don't want to hype Slowpokes too much because it's one of my favorite coffee places, especially for working, and I don't want to have to fight the crowds to sit down here. Although, I am so glad they are doing well. I've been coming here fairly regularly for two or three years and it's certainly increased in popularity over the last year. As a Heights-area resident, I believe the coffee and food prices are about what you'd expect to find at any coffee shop in the area - similarly priced to Morningstar, Boomtown, and Throughgood. So if you're upset with pricing, unfortunately, I think they are pretty fair and standard for our neighborhood. I prefer Slowpokes because I like getting to know the people where I go, and when I walk in, it's nice to know that the owners have taken their time to remember my name. Even if I've been sitting in there a while with headphones one, Afif will take the time to acknowledge me and say hello. In our consumeristic culture where we seek out the best-tasting coffee, food, etc, I think we easily and often overlook the benefits of being a regular, which is seeing the kindness and hard-working nature of others. read more

The truth is I love coffee and will take a ride to go and grab a cup if I happen to anywhere without my chemex and aero press. Great coffee. On par with blue bottle in NYC. We purchased two drip coffee's and then went back and got two more. The half and half was fresh and creamy so you know they aren't watering it down like some places I can name. The service was great. Not that cheerful phony great but a real honest great. when I mentioned that I was from NYC a conversation struck up and it was great to hear from the crowd. I would say that folks who stop in and stay a while are earnest, hard working entrepreneurs. In fact my brother who is opening a SPENGA nearby4 made some great contacts here. They also offer a daily text message with specials and discounts. This is a place that you can honestly go to and say you have had a cup of coffee.
