I did not end up eating or drinking here because of how my experience was handled from the moment I walked in. I specifically chose this location because they have a patio. They also have a spacious parking lot, which was convenient. Since I had my dog with me, I stepped inside briefly to confirm that the patio was open before settling in. I greeted the young woman at the counter and asked if patio seating was available. She responded, "Yes, because dogs are not allowed inside." That felt unnecessary. I was clearly asking about the patio for that exact reason. I was not attempting to sit indoors, and I understand health regulations. She then added that the Houston Health Department could walk in at any moment. Again, I was not trying to dine inside. I simply wanted to confirm patio access so I could enjoy a coffee outside. I asked if someone would be outside to take my order. She said no. So I asked if she could take my order right then so I could immediately head out to the patio. She agreed, but her tone and demeanor felt dismissive, which made the interaction uncomfortable. At that point, I decided to leave. If the patio is dog friendly, there should be a smoother process for solo customers with pets. A simple, "Yes, the patio is open. Let me take your order now so you can head outside," would have made this quick and easy. Advisory: If you are visiting with a dog, I would recommend bringing another person with you. If you are alone, the ordering process may be awkward, as you cannot remain inside with your dog while placing your order. I would have happily spent money here, but the service made the visit feel more procedural than welcoming. read more

Got a blueberry muffin, 5 stars. A muffin is not a cupcake...and this is an actual muffin, iykyk. Blueberries were plump, juicy, and tart just as they should be. This is where the greatness ends. Almond croissant was 3 stars. It's open faced with the almond paste dolloped on top in the middle, and then it's drowned in powdered sugar. No. Ordered a matcha separately after looking over the menu...requested to be made with oat milk and added vanilla syrup. Total for the drink alone was over $9 with the substitution/addition and it came in an Itty bitty tall size (Starbucks reference) cup. Bland, slightly gritty, nah. I am not a matcha purist, but I prefer it over coffee, and I got excited for vanilla flavor (basic, I know) only to be rewarded with nothing. Not sure if I would return to try other baked items. Stopped by because I thought there would be more kolache options but there was only one, which had pork (bacon) in it. Sigh. read more

Cake by to get some tea. They have golden milk tea which used to be so hard to find however, now fortunately I can find it a few places. This cafe is really cute and quaint. On a cool day, it's perfect. The desserts looked fresh and the almond croissant I had was really good. I couldn't decide on what drink I wanted so I ordered both the matcha latte and the golden milk tea. The matcha is on ice and it tasted like most other matcha lattes, better than Starbucks and the golden milk tea was actually my favorite of the two. I will definitely come again! Such a great find. Around the time of my birthday earlier in the Summer, I was asked which bakery would I like to have a birthday cake ordered from on my behalf. For me, that's still kind of a tough question as the bakeries I preferred in the past no longer exist... My all time favorite bakery in the cake category was the long gone Patisserie Descours, which had a location on Wirt years ago--truly the best cake I've ever tasted in the entire country. Another bakery I really liked was Acadian Bakery, which was once located on West Alabama. These gems are irreplaceable, but I've also found, over time, that there are numerous other places to get great cake(s). Red Dessert Dive is certainly one of them. After being asked which flavor of cake I preferred, I decided on Funfetti--I really liked the name, design and how it looked. On the website, FUNFETTI is described as "Vanilla Cake with sprinkles baked in. Vanilla buttercream and covered with tons of sprinkles." The sprinkles are multicolored. I have to say I really enjoyed this delicious cake and was kind of sad when it got down to the last slice in the box. After my birthday, a family member took me by the 34th Street location in Oak Forest. If you're traveling East, it's to the left before you get to Ella. I LOVED this spot: the great service, good selection and variety, atmosphere, decor, etc. We went there at night. I wanted to get my own Valrhona Salted Chocolate Chunk Cookie as I had tried a piece of this cookie before and thought it was really good. I love that it's not super sweet--they let the chocolate do the talking. But the sweet/savory balance between the chocolate and salt is appreciated. I also enjoyed the coffee I got there. I thought the lemon poppyseed muffin and orange creamsicle cupcake I sampled were kind of on the dry side. But overall, I would still rate Red Dessert Dive a solid 5/5. Highly recommended! read more

Review is for scheduled pick-up from this location. Note that it's the same principle as the other location in that you basically have to order ahead for full cakes, at least 72 hours (3 days) in advance. I ordered a custom 6" carrot cake. It's a shame that they can only write three words, but it makes sense because these cakes are TALL and not that big in diameter. We custom-ordered with no nuts due to my nut allergy and I was able to devour a slice of the carrot cake with no issues. Reviews of the cake were favorable from all 10 people who got a small slice each (considering the height of the cake, a "small slice" is probably about the same as a normal slice of another cake). I thought the cream was a tad sweet (which probably means it's perfect for some other people), but the carrot cake texture was fantastic. They've been advertised to me as the best cake in Houston. I'm not a cake aficionado, preferring less sweet desserts, but I could believe it. A little on the pricier side, but I'd definitely order a cake from them again. read more

Glad to see Red Dessert Dive opened up another location! It's all the same fare and great coffee and pastries as the first location. Tried it out today and was pleased with the consistency. The kolaches and croissants are always such a treat. You can't go wrong with the bacon cream cheese kolaches, and the croissants are very flaky and buttery. The quiche was also very good. Their coffee is also on par with some of the great coffee shops in the area. Another good thing about this location is it has a bigger seating area and a nice outdoor setup to enjoy your treats. Very cool that we have a new, spacious location to enjoy. Came in for a morning coffee catch up with a friend and we enjoyed the bright, comfortable space. They also have a nice patio and outdoor area if the weather is cooperating. Large spread of pastries and desserts as you would expect with the name, so my coffee and dessert-loving heart was happy. I stopped on for their new opening today. I love how spacious it is compared to their other location. The parking lot is big, not so worried about trying to back out into busy traffic like the Studemont location. There were not as many cake selections, only one when I was there. They were sold out of many items when I arrived at 2 PM but still had a good selection of cupcakes, cookies, and pastries. I had these for my sweet tooth: * slice of their cookies and cream cake-deliciously moist * raspberry thumbsy with coconut shavings is my new favorite-you must try! * the Debusker - Dark Chocolate Brownie with M&M Cookie (decadent!) * lemon meringue cupcake - wish I bought more than one! * cup of cortado - the caffeine in this cup was no joke. I had to pull over at a gas station to calm my racing heart. Never had caffeine hit me like that little cup did. Service here is awesome, ask any questions and you'll get answers. What a charming coffee shop in The Heights! Upon entering, you'll notice a variety of boutique items scattered throughout the cafe, including graphic tees, candles, mugs, and more--definitely worth browsing. While the indoor seating is limited, the spacious backyard offers several tables and chairs, making it very dog-friendly, with complimentary dog waste bags provided. For drinks, we tried an iced Americano with vanilla bean, a cortado with oat milk, an iced oat milk mocha, and the new spring seasonal iced Mother Earth matcha. All were delicious, except for the iced oat milk mocha, which lacked a strong "chocolatey" flavor. The barista was super kind and offered to remake it extra sweet, but even after remaking it, it still didn't quite hit the mark. One thing to note: if you like your drinks on the sweeter side, you may want to ask for extra sugar in addition to any flavoring, as the drinks tend to be less sweet, especially with options like the iced mocha that seemed more cacao-forward with minimal sweetness. As for pastries, we had a chocolate croissant, almond croissant, a Biscoff cookie, and an egg sandwich. All were fantastic, with the Biscoff cookie being my personal favorite! This cafe is definitely worth a visit, and I'll be back to try more items from the menu. read more

Very cozy coffee shop that sells desserts with a patio in the back. Everything inside was so aesthetically pleasing. Staff was nice and made the drinks very quickly. There wasn't too many people there around Saturday noon. I anticipate it will be a pretty popular place in the next coming months to a year. Always looking for a good Dessert / Coffee place. The Red Dessert Dive in Oak Forest did not disappoint! Grand opening ! Kat welcomed us and could not have been nicer. The place is so cute! Inside and outside dining. Along with delicious desserts there is wine :-). We tried the Lemon Blueberry Cupcake along with Espressos. Delicious! I brought home the Bread Pudding Cake and the Red Velvet cupcake for later. The prices are reasonable. The outside and inside are roomy and there is a room adjacent that could be for private parties. First time at this location usually go to the one on studewood ..but they were out of ready made cakes so i came to this new location and grabbed a oreo 6in cake which was way overpriced $60 and it was for a birthday...it tasted old and dry and just wasnt worth the money it was so basic and agin way overpriced...i have been going to other location for years and never had a problem but this time we were very let down and wont ever buy another ready made cake from them again read more

Red dessert dive We really want to like this place, but it's just so incredibly underwhelming. The interior is sublime. Perfectly decorated. However, the actual offerings leave so much to be desired. Every time we go, and we've been 5 times, we're left underwhelmed by the dessert options and saying, "I guess I'll get that". Our kids are happy with a basic cupcake, but they're happy with a Kroger cupcake too, so why would we come here to spend the extra money? Their tiny case consists mostly of basic brownies, basic cookies, basic cupcakes, basic pastries, and one or two basic cakes. Last time we went it was a basic funfetti cake and the time before that it was basic vanilla with chocolate icing. They've dedicated more real estate to little tchotchkes than actual food options. It's no Dessert Gallery or Common Bond for sure and even non-dessert centered places, such as Empire Cafe and Bella Green, have better dessert options than this place. For as inspired as their interior is, their selection of desserts is incredibly uninspired and their staff are even less inspiring. We've never been greeted with anything more than a forced half smile. It's like patrons are inconveniencing them by ordering. For the size of the space and the happy hour offerings, they'd really benefit from offering some small sandwiches or something like little mini pizzas as well. They have quiches on weekends, which are very good. We had high hopes for this beautiful space, but we're still waiting. We'll check their socials and website for more offerings, but at this time, we don't plan on returning. read more
