I recently visited Slutty Vegan here in Birmingham, Alabama, and tried their famous burger called the "One Night Stand." Overall, it was a really good experience. The burger itself was flavorful, juicy, and surprisingly satisfying for a fully plant-based meal. The seasonings were bold, and everything tasted fresh and well put together. You can definitely tell they put thought into making vegan food that doesn't feel like you're missing out on anything. It was messy in the best way possible and lived up to the hype taste-wise. The atmosphere was also very nice. It had a fun, upbeat vibe and felt welcoming without being overwhelming. There was little to no wait when I went, which made the experience even better. The only downside for me was the price. It was slightly expensive for what you get, especially for a casual meal. I would absolutely recommend Slutty Vegan to someone who prefers a vegan lifestyle or is looking to try plant-based food. I walked in for lunch, ordered my food, and noticed a couple at a nearby table practically leaning into each other just to have a conversation. The gentleman even had his finger in his ear trying to hear his lady over the music. Eventually, they got up and left -- they were having the same experience I was. The music was on full blast at midday. I politely asked the gentleman at the counter if he could turn it down a bit, and his response was a very clear and concise "no" lol. So if concert-level sound decibels aren't your thing, I'd recommend ordering your food to go and waiting outside until it's ready. This was my spot when I thought I wanted to try the vegan/vegetarian lifestyle. I was super excited to know they were opening up a restaurant here in Birmingham. I remember when the food truck was here and how crowded it was just to get a plant burger and fries. The hype is that real! For a sandwich that's not real beef, it tastes remarkably like the real thing without the guilt. My favs are the One Night Stand (think bacon cheeseburger) and the Hollywood Hooker ( think Philly cheesesteak). Fries come with each burger/sandwich...drinks do not. The slut dust (fry seasoning) is amazing and I have bought a container to use at home. This stuff is highly addictive! This place is an experience and I don't want to give too much away. You just have to see for yourself. Unfortunately...Over time, the food isn't as good as it once was. The burgers are sloppy now, and poorly made. They closed their doors for a few months and then a new owner stepped in and reopened it. I haven't been back in awhile due to the disappointment of my last meal. As a vegan from Northern California, I was excited to try this place when visiting family in Birmingham. The food was tasty, and the service was fine. However, the music inside was entirely too loud. So much so that the workers had to yell at each other to hear orders. I don't understand why you'd want to work with that much noise. And I certainly did not enjoy dining there. I will start by saying I am not vegan, but I have heard so many good things about this place that I wanted to give it a try. I had it delivered, and it arrived still nice and warm and fresh. I ordered the Sloppy Toppy, hold the jalapeños. I love jalapenos, but I was not in the mood for them today. I also had their fries with a light dusting of the seasoning. All in all, it was not that expensive compared to similar places. Ordering was easy, and the arrival estimate was accurate. It was packaged tightly, and everything was neatly placed in the bag, which was also stapled shut multiple times. I appreciate that! Upon opening the bag, everything was hot, and the burger was wrapped and sealed with a sticker (again, thank you!). I am an odd one, I pretty much eat one thing at a time and rarely crossover. I ate the fries first, and they were still warm and crispy. I would say their fries are excellent and easy to rank among the top 5 I have had since moving here. The seasoning was great, and now I know I will have a regular dusting should I try this place again. When I opened the burger, it was still nice and warm. It was a lot larger than I was thinking. It smelled great and looked great, except definitely a bit too much sauce everywhere. I do think I would have liked cut onions rather than the little pieces, because the pieces do not hold the crunch. It definitely does not look like the advertisements, but it was still good. I had to come back and leave an updated review because the decline in value and customer experience is hard to ignore. I used to eat here multiple times a week, but over time it's become obvious how much the owner pinches pennies, and the prices vs the value just don't add up. You're paying $20 for a sandwich, and if you make any changes to what's listed on the menu, the price does not adjust. I order a cheeseburger with all of the pre-selected toppings removed -- the price still stays the same. Don't want fries? Too bad -- they're automatically included, and it's an extra $4 whether you want them or not. On top of that, the ingredients in the sandwiches aren't even consistent. I've ordered the Project Chick multiple times, and each time it's different. One time it's pepper jack instead of Gouda. Another time the chicken strips were so tiny, it felt like I was just eating bread. They're stingy with the ranch, which leaves the sandwich dry, and if you want extra condiments you're charged $1 each. Funny how they can itemize add-ons but not removals. Even something as small as a cup of ice turns into a charge -- they'll ring it up as a drink. A couple weeks ago, I stopped in just wanting dessert. I was already hesitant to spend $6 on what is basically four bites of banana pudding, but I went anyway. The owner looked at me with an attitude and asked, "Is that all you're getting?" For as much money as I've spent here over time, the least they could do is offer some consistency, basic courtesy, and not nickel-and-dime loyal customers over everything -- including ice. I have been wanting to try Slutty vegan for a while so I was very excited to see what the hype was about. The restaurant has a funky, cool vibe and the service was great. I wasn't sure what to order but the staff gave me many helpful suggestions. I was curious to see how a vegan hamburger compared to a non/vegan hamburger. I ordered the hamburger and fries. I got ranch on the side. Of course the sauces were vegan as well and I will say, the sauces were what suprised me the most. The ranch tasted similar to ceaser dressing and it was quite oily. The staff greets you with a loud Slutty welcome, and the music is blasting to where you hear it both inside and out, so I am honestly not sure half of what they said when we first arrived, but I know they said we were "in da building" and definitely called us sluts, lol. (My poor mother.) The interior decor matches the music - loud and bright. There's no real dining space, just a come & go setup. We ordered The Fussy Hussy which is like their plain/original burger with the usual toppings. We also got a set of regular fries and of the sweet potato fries. They were ok. Generous servings. I also had a soda - black cherry I believe. Your burger tends to get messy but is pretty large in size. They make them using the Hawaiian bread buns. I didn't have any desserts but the menu looked promising. The food is rather pricey. For 2 burgers, 2 French fries & 1 drink came up to more than $40. For me it was like having fast food that happens to be vegan. All in all that's just what it is - vegan fast food, but being black owned and plant based, I'mma stick beside it. Tonight I ordered Slutty Vegan. I was vegan for 5 years, so it's safe to say I know my vegan food pretty well. This was my third time trying this place. Today I ordered the Hollywood Hooker, which is a vegan philly cheesesteak. It came with a side of fries and I ordered a banana pudding for dessert. All the food was delicious. The hollywood hooker had lots of veggies and came on a fresh bun. The meat on it appeared to be chopped up beyond meat or something similar. It was not exactly the texture I was expecting. My fries were pretty good, though they had a little too much salt for my taste. The banana pudding was amazing. Most vanilla wafers are not vegan, and this one was topped with biscoff. I visited Slutty Vegan Birmingham with some friends yesterday. I opted for the "Hooker Fries," which i could best compare to In-n-out's "Animal Fries." This is an entirely vegan restaurant and I was hesitant to see how their meat alternatives compared to other places. When ordering, staff was extremely nice and helped me ultimately decide on the meal I ordered, compared to another one of their burgers. In the future, I would probably order the small Hooker Fries as the large that I ordered was entirely too much. I also ordered a Lemonade to go with my meal and the total for the food and drink was just over $25. The overall environment was fun as they had loud popular music playing and merchandise we looked at while waiting. Unfortunately they do not have their full menu available everyday and limited quantities of some items. We had just left Hoot's and Howls at the zoo and were hungry so we checked out Slutty Vegan. It was a little out of our way but 100% BEYOND worth it!!! When we walked in it music was bumping, the people there were so welcoming and made us feel so special! The person at the front called out on the mic that my little girl was wearing a dragon costume and she felt so seen and is still talking about it! Besides the fun and friendly atmosphere, the food was incredible. My husband and I got the ménage à trois burgers, I got mine with a beyond patty, and my daughter got the kids chik'n fingers. I'm vegan, but the rest of my family eats meat, and they LOVED their food. I will be telling everyone and I will be back! I was able to order my food in advance through the app. Even though they are a smaller chain, they still offer exclusive benefits to reward members. The rewards program tracks every time you visit a Slutty Vegan location and assigns you points based on your purchase. As soon as you arrive, you're greeted with loud music that instantly makes you want to dance and increases your anticipation for your food. Slutty Vegan is not a dine-in restaurant, but public and private parking is available to you. The employees were extremely welcoming and helped me decide on which burger I wanted to order because initially, I only ordered sweet potato and regular fries via the app. I did not see any special precautions taken for COVID-19; however, the place was spotless compared to other fast-food restaurants. I ordered the One Night Stand burger, and it's one of the best burgers in Birmingham. Typically, I am not a fan of vegan patties or bacon, but the bacon on this burger was crispy, and the patty did not have the weird texture or consistency I usually associate with vegan burgers. This burger sits on a pillowy, soft Hawaiian bun topped with fresh, crisp veggies. The star of the show was the signature slut sauce. It was a burst of flavor that tied the entire burger together. The fries are phenomenal as well. They were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I paired the Blackberry Mayo sauce with the sweet potato fries and the Hunny mustard sauce with regular fries, and my tastebuds exploded. I need those sauces available at Target for purchase immediately. The food comes in plastic-free packaging, so it's eco-friendly. If you are in the Birmingham area and want to try vegan food, Slutty Vegan is a great introduction.
