Wow!!! Echo (new owner) has really made the Sly Park Resort aka The Knothole (to locals) into an amazing place. The store is fully stocked, the bar has full mixed drinks, beers, and food. The back patio grass area has been replanted, nee stage for bands, horse shoe area, fire place. We had a high school graduation party in the patio area....amazing. The resort BBQ'ed cheeseburgers and fried fries-up...delicious. We set up a award table and candy table. The graduate said everything was perfect. Do not use this lake for kayaking. We've had season passes for 8 yrs and this day we were charged an additional charge for our kayaks. We are locals and DID us the lake twice a week. Was mad to believe that yearly day pass we paid for covered your kayaks. Not today, which will be the last time we use this lake for recreation. read more

When your in the area please try the Knott Hole great burgers and iced cold beers ... it is a wee slice of a place!! You just need to cross the Sky Park Rd at the lake. They have a taco tues thing but I believe only on a Tues. had cheese and chilies on me burger ! Can't wait to go again. read more

Very impressed with this resort! Everyone from the check in booth to the park rangers and staff were very friendly and helpful. You can tell they care about the people who visit. Our campsite was beautiful, the water is clean and gorgeous! Our family had a great time and will make it a tradition to camp here often ! *Note, please be sure your kiddos wear life jackets, just to be safe, it can get busy on weekends and the tide picks up a bit. Excellent place for kids, nice hike by the water, beautiful lake, with tons of streams to cool off in. Haven't done camping here yet but definitely I can imagine a great time just because of the amount of shades and how majestic the lake is from anyone angle, just make sure you come early only summertime weather and weekends, it does get a little packed up at the front. This is my first Yelpbelch. Trish and I came to the conclusion that Yelpbelch is king perhaps even a God. These tenders of the bar & grill wait on baited breath that youll right their day with your yelpbelch. Anyway I apologize darlin because i should have asked, the lovely & honest,( a rare combo), bartender/1-4-24 player/chef trish or trisha, (either perfect), not only entertained myself and her dice friends, poured a WTF*! cocktail, made me laugh, then set me up with some creole onion rings and tater tot combo WITH 2 RANCHES. Place rocked, patrons rocked and Trish was perfect. I just hope, as does Trish, that Yelp(whocares) and all there many wonderful users continue to do Gods work. This is an update of my last review. Since my last scathing review I have fully changed my outlook and opinion of this place! The new owner Dan has faced many hurtles in acquiring this business. I took the time to sit down with him and discuss my negative review I made. Dan is an incredibly nice guy that has worked very hard at getting this business going well and successful. He explained many things to me about taking over this business and I am happy to say that the future is bright for this quaint mountain bar and grill, as well as the store and gas pumps. The thing I like the most is the people that work here! They are locals that have been working here for years. They are quick to smile and help you with anything! The "Taco Tuesday's" are amazing! You will not find a better taco plate! Anyway, I have made the effort to check on their progress since the ownership change, and I would like to report a wonderful change and a friendly place to have a drink, gas up, refill your camping supplies, or get some great fishing advice as well as bait and supplies! Used to be the best burger in Pollock Pines, but it has changed hands. Every visit seems a new person is behind the grill, none of which seem to be able to cook a burger. The last two I have ordered were raw. I don't think I will be back. read more

Taco Tuesday at The Knott Hole (AKA Sly Park Resort). The proprietors Sly Park Resort fix up a great taco for a dollar on Taco Tuesday. One type, beef, but tasty and flavorful. Can get Lettuce, Cheese, and Onion on them. Choose either crispy or soft shell. Fills up fast in the bar, but in good weather head out the back door and let the kids roam inside the fence and enjoy the weather. Get a beer or cocktail at the bar when you order and grab a bottle of hot sauce, there are about 77 types to choose from along the bar. I recommend Chunky Garlic by The Pepper Plant. The Sly Park Resort AKA the Knot Hole is the rare find - it exceeds expectations. The owners have high standards and that comes across when you walk thru the door. For the last 5 Saturday nights I will belly up to my favorite seat at the bar and order the same burger. The Knott Burger and "Make it Knotty". For those out of the loop, its a standard burger with choice of produce, then "Knotty" it with bacon, spicy jack, and grilled Ortega chili's. It is served classic style in a plastic tray lined with wax paper with a heaping side of hot crispy fries. I love me a good burger - call me boring but one thing for sure is I know a good burger. My friend is more adventurous and experiments all over the menu. He's done the chili nachos (family sized huge), the buffalo burger (lean), French dip (light and delicious), and fish tacos (almost placed a 2nd order). I've benefitted from his experimentation by grabbing a forkful and enjoyed everything he's ordered. The beer is always cold. The whiskey is standard issue, nothing exotic here. The owners and staff are wonderful people and great hosts. The clientele is a split of locals (most with ties to the Bay Area) and seasonal tourist/campers from the Sly Park campground across the street. Also at the Resort is a gas station, a country store (geared towards the campground across the street), a hotel, RV park, propane, ice, and seasonal kayak rentals. Gas is not cheap but I assume its because they cater to the boat owners and use marine gas which is more expensive. read more

I don't know what happened to this place, it used to be well stocked, now the store barely has anything. Shelves are literally empty, although I'm sure they'll use "covid" as the excuse. The person at the counter laughed when I asked if they had Yerba Mates, the canned teas. There was only one lady at the grill, serving and bartending, which is understandable, but the tomatoes on my salad tasted a little sour like they were going bad, and they had no idea what was gluten free on their menu, which is ridiculous in this day and age. I'll definitely stop at Holiday or Safeway next time I need a snack and am in the area. One bathroom had the sink literally knocked off the wall, so I had to use the "men's bathroom" and it smelled like urine, didn't have any paper towels stocked, and clearly wasn't cleaned. Very unimpressed and hopefully my salad was safe to eat, this place is honestly a wreck, how hard is it to clean and stock a place? read more

The convenience store is ok and is well stocked with a large selection of items. Closest place to the Rec Area if you forgot anything for your day or camping trip. We had bought ice almost every day during our stay. The problem I experienced is with the store one early evening shorted me a $1. I know it's up to the customer to count the change, but it still sux. The next day, I bought 2 20lb bags and told the guy he shorted me that buck and he didn't care. We always stop at the Knott Hole for an afternoon snack and drink. Of course a friendly game of horseshoes in the back is a must! The food is good typical bar food. The service is poor and takes a long time! I went there with a friend for a drink and dinner the server/ waitress didn't even acknowledge us for a good 5 min. What a wonderful surprise. My dog and I had just hiked around Jenkinson Lake and our way to find a burger joint. I saw the "Bar and Grill" sign at the Sly Park Resort but wasn't too impressed with the outside appearance and kept driving. Then I looked at the clock on my dash and saw how late it was getting and applied that to how hungry I was and turned around less than a mile up the road. I parked, left the dog in the car, opened the front door to the Knot Hole and was greeted with a bar and stools, like in my face, close. But, I made a quick right to avoid walking into the bar and asked the bartender for a menu. I picked a double cheese burger (angus) and fries to go. In about 10 mins the meal was ready. I went outside, broke a patty up for the furry kid and seasoned mine with ketchup and mayo and bit in. Ooooooohh, mmmmmmmmm, it was like biting into a piece of burger heaven. And the fries, oh my goodness, no condiments necessary. Just the right amount of crispy on the outside and tender inside, and the flavor. The whole meal was perfect and I will go back just for the burger and fries. read more

Let me start off by staying the lake is absolutely gorgeous. I could swim all day in it, it's clear, clean, and refreshing. We also saw lots of trout! There's a ton of campsites, some good some bad. I know the pine cone area is fairly close to the lake but other areas such as hilltop are not close to the lake at all. There were no paved pathways to get down there. Just steep narrow dirt paths through bushes and over logs. I can't tell you how many times my friends and I ate it while going down to the lake. It took us about 5 mins to get down and 10 back up. A couple of things were misleading, their website says they have water spigots to fill up your RVs. Well that's somewhat true but each site does not have their own spigot. So you either have to stop in the roadway before backing Into your site to fill up, or hope you have real long hose. In addition to that, the spigots do NOT have threads on them that attach to hoses. We stood there like fools with our hands wrapped around the hose with water spraying everywhere trying to get as much water into our rig as possible. You get "2 vehicles per site." Which also means one RV and one vehicle. Any vehicles after that are $15 per night which is a pretty steep price after paying $35 a night for the campsite. Dogs are $5 per day and they are not allowed in the lake. Also upon arriving we found out this lake does not allow jet skis because "the lake is not big enough and jet skis drive crazy." With more personal research we could have found that out before hand but unfortunately we assumed a lake with wake-boarding boats and a boat launch would allow skis. We were super bummed out. The dump station is HORRENDOUS. Never have I seen a dump station that you have to back into! And right off the main road next to the kiosk. While carefully backing up and holding up traffic you have make sure you come in straight because there's a ditch on one side of you and a concrete slope on the other side. While backing up someone informed me that there was another dump station down the road but I'm not sure if thats true or not. One amazing thing about this place is the stars at night. It's been a long time since I could see the milky way and shooting stars. With all that said, I did really like this place. The campsites were clean, the water was clean and the scenery was beautiful. This just wasn't quite the place for our camping needs. Next time we'll be headed somewhere that allows jet skis and doggies in the lake. And hopefully a place with showers! read more

My husband and I stayed at the RV resort, and loved it. We just got a 19 foot trailer, and instead of booking a spot at the campground, I wanted to try using the electric/water hookups for the first time. The lake was directly across the street, about a 10 minute mini - hike down to the sandy beach. Much harder to hike back up the hill, but overall I was impressed how close the RV resort was to the lake. I spoke with Denise when we checked in, and she helped my husband back the trailer into the space, which I found to be very helpful! We had a nice little, shady spot with full hookups. My husband didn't like that he could hear the traffic from the road, but since I Google mapped this place first, I was expecting it, and it didn't bother me, in fact I think a really simple remedy to people who are sensitive to ANY type of campsite noises to bring ear plugs with them! I told my husband I would take noise from the street, over loud, yelling, screaming children any day. And in that regards the RV resort was quiet and relaxing because it is small and intimate, there couldn't be more than 12 spaces all together. We paid $45 for the night, it seemed a bit pricey at first until I learned a couple things about Sly Park. It cost my husband and I $16 to drive into the lake for day use, including $5 for our dog! Talk about pricey to use the lake for ONE day. Then it was $10 to use the the dump-station at Sly Park Recreation area. By staying at the RV resort we avoided paying the $16 entrance fee both days, and of course with full hookups we didn't need to use the dump station. That is almost $40 in fees that we saved right there! We also discovered another HUGE perk to staying at the resort... they have a really good restaurant and bar on-site. We walked over for dinner at about 8pm and had the BEST tri-tip tacos EVER. I think it was around $8- $9 for 4 giant tacos filled with tri-tip... YUM! They were really delicious! My husband and I enjoyed talking with the bartender, I did a couple shots of Fireball and my husband had a couple beers and our entire dinner check was around $40. We walked back to our RV relaxed and happy as could be! The next morning, instead of checking-out at 12pm, I asked Denise if we could leave the RV parked there until 5pm, so we could spend the day at the lake. She said that since no one else was coming in... that it was no problem! I would love to come back and stay here again, unfortunately the lake doesn't allows dogs in the water. This was huge problem for us, as we have an active dog who is extremely social and loves to play in the water. We had to tie her up at the shore and listen to her bark and whine while we swam in the lake. When we come back to visit we will probably have to leave the dog at home. :( read more
