Really disappointing! Drove over an hour for these doughy dense Soft pretzels. I just blindly ordered 12 soft pretzels (yes, my fault for not tasting them first) they were all shoved into a white Paper bag. 5 of them got totally Smashed & by the next day these pretzels were inedible. They need to present the Soft Pretzels in a proper storage to go container for proper cooling when ordering more than 2 warm Soft pretzels. Evidently they were out of Beer cheese as well. The hard pretzels that come in numbers of 25 were bland & Extremely hard to eat, seriously would chip or break teeth if you are not careful. read more

IDK. I grew up eating these pretzels.......but I never imagined Id be paying $9.50 for a rather small bag of pretzels. I believe my dad used to bring home an entire box that was about two bucks. Yeah....I know that prices rise and we have inflation but......the price seems too high. read more

I love pretzels and accidentally found this place on Yelp. Their operating hours are very limited and be sure to check before going. Soft and hard pretzels are what they have. The shop is located in a residential area and there's a small parking lot after you pull inside the driveway next to the blue house. They also sell sodas. While Tony and I was on our day trip in Dayton, Ohio we stopped at the Smales Pretzel Bakery to enjoy a Hot Salty Treat. We both love pretzels of any kind. This is really a treasure!!! If you are in the Dayton OHIO area you should definitely look them up. They are easy to find with Google Maps or Yelp GPS, They are located in a residential area. Plenty of parking and inside is a counter and very helpful workers. They also sell other treats too. I purchased 2 pretzels, ONE for each of us only $2.50 When in the area I will definitely stop again! I highly recommend plug this into your GPS and find your Pretzel fix right here!!! read more

This is a great example of honing your craft. Picking something to specialize in, and making it great. These pretzels are delicious. It doesn't hurt that there is charm oozing out this addorable and unsuspecting building, but to find that they make excellent quality pretzels that are pretty darn affordable was a pleasant surprise. We ordered a half dozen of their soft pretzels. They were still warm when they gave us the bag! Very salty and delicious. I will certainly return. read more

Also, for 50 years been buying. I agree with Joe J. and Joe M. for two smallish bags I am over-charged. The many times I mail order, ALL the pretzels are broken into many small pieces and with little salt. Last time I made a special request for them to write FRAGILE on the box. I asked the USPO postmaster why these pretzels are ALL broken. The cardboard box was not crushed."No way product was damaged in transit." Looking at Smales' photo of a bag, they are all WHOLE pretzels! But, upon arrival they are ALL crushed. Not a single whole one. So, the out-of-town customers are given the floor sweepings and charged 2x the regular price. I am requesting a replacement shipment (with whole pieces). read more

$8.00 for a smallish bag of hard pretzels and then being asked to add 50 cents for using a debit card! This practice is a seriously stupid and insulting. I'm all in favor of supporting local merchants, but not in favor of being "taken to cleaners" for a mediocre product. In the world of pretzels, Smales is a minor player who doesn't understand that card charges should be included in the price and not added as surcharge. Have eaten their pretzel since I was in elementary school, Fresh, warn, soft and with a unforgettable taste! - I'm now 67 and of all the pretzels that are offered around town I without a doubt still go and get Smales pretzels. Planning a go this week, have Chemo treatments but I have found I can still enjoy these even with the treatments. Hope these are around for generations to come, have gotten my daughter and grandson hooked on them also. Even the wife who is not really a pretzel person, likes them! I've actually never been to the location so I can't speak to that but I have had both Smale's hard and soft pretzels. These pretzels are definitely a lot different than other pretzels I've had. They have more of a cracker flavor and are super salty... Kind of like a saltine pretzel. I know that doesn't sound great but they are actually quite good and work well with any kind of dip or spread! Worth trying if you're in the area. read more
