I love pretzels and accidentally found this place on Yelp. Their operating hours are very limited and be sure to check before going. Soft and hard pretzels are what they have. The shop is located in a residential area and there's a small parking lot after you pull inside the driveway next to the blue house. They also sell sodas. We had 2 soft ones where they tasted good and chewy.

While Tony and I was on our day trip in Dayton, Ohio we stopped at the Smales Pretzel Bakery to enjoy a Hot Salty Treat. We both love pretzels of any kind. This is really a treasure!!! If you are in the Dayton OHIO area you should definitely look them up. They are easy to find with Google Maps or Yelp GPS, They are located in a residential area. Plenty of parking and inside is a counter and very helpful workers. They also sell other treats too. I purchased 2 pretzels, ONE for each of us only $2.50 When in the area I will definitely stop again! I highly recommend plug this into your GPS and find your Pretzel fix right here!!!

We love this place! Hands down the best pretzels. Highly recommend! Always friendly staff too.

    Fresh baked soft pretzel!

I loved my very first trip to Smales. I went there to get some soft pretzels, and I got a bag of them (1 dozen) hot from the oven. FAST friendly service. I'll be back (to get the Smales T-Shirt I ordered a few weeks ago)!

Great little pretzel dive! So many people in Dayton don't even realize it's there! The new beer cheese that's a collaboration with 5th Street Brewpub is a perfect side. Best deal is the frozen dozen...can't beat $5 and they reheat perfectly.

Yeah I love pretzels. I drive to Smales from Fairborn to get some. Get you some beer cheese to dip them in on the way home. I get three or four freshies for the family. Can pop is nice and cold in the serve yourself fridge.

This is a great example of honing your craft. Picking something to specialize in, and making it great. These pretzels are delicious. It doesn't hurt that there is charm oozing out this addorable and unsuspecting building, but to find that they make excellent quality pretzels that are pretty darn affordable was a pleasant surprise. We ordered a half dozen of their soft pretzels. They were still warm when they gave us the bag! Very salty and delicious. I will certainly return.

We took a quick trip from columbus to Dayton and were instantly impressed. This is definitely a cafe that loves its city and features many locally made wares. We got the garlic cream cheese danish, the Kellie pie danish, the orange monkey bread, and the buttered croissant. My only problem was that the croissant was covered in a brushing of sugar syrup and it would have been nice for it to just be a butter croissant. It was still delicious and perfectly fine just wish it would have been named more appropriately:) Staff are efficient but kind as there is always a line out the door. We were lucky to still grab some seats inside on a hot day; however, there is well shaded seating outside as well. 4 pastries are a lot for 2 people so we could not try any more. We can't wait to go back!!!!

There is a large indoor seating area. There is some street parking. If I had been parked better I would've lingered. Instead I chose 4 items to take away in a box. I enjoyed everything. They have some really interesting pastries and also the more typical ones. It's on the high $ side. In my opinion it's a treat, a special event kind of place. This is not a get a dozen for the kids ball game kind of spot. Again, just my opinion. I hope to return when I can sit and linger.

The husband-and-wife team behind Grist has created one of the most inventive pasta menus you'll find anywhere. It's casual--you order at the counter--but don't mistake that for ordinary dining. We started with the rosemary Parmesan focaccia and the cow's milk burrata. Both were excellent. The focaccia was simple, fresh, and perfectly executed, while the burrata was an absolute standout. For our entrées, we had the Mafalda al Agnello, Raviolo al'Uovo, Spring Pea Agnolotti, and Tonnarelli di Mare. Every pasta was handmade and beautifully prepared. The Mafalda stole the show, with wide, ruffled ribbons coated in an incredible braised lamb sauce. The Raviolo al'Uovo was unlike anything I've had before--a single oversized raviolo with remarkable flavor and a presentation that was as memorable as it was delicious. Grist is proof that great dining doesn't require white tablecloths. It simply requires talented people making exceptional food. We couldn't recommend it more.
