I visited this location again during my lunch. Small Cheval is one of the few places I know that can do a double cheeseburger lettuce wrap well, and it's delicious and satisfying. I ordered that with a strawberry milkshake because I can. I ordered to go. The person who took my order wee pleasant & judgement free. There wasn't much of a wait, even though I received a buzzer to tell me when my order was ready.

I paid 40$ for a burger that is no better than McDonalds. Definitely small, more bun than burger. Too salty, but the fries are good. I was expecting a thicker burger and definitely much more flavorful. Not my bag of burger, won't be back and won't recommend. Try the Jerk yard across the street and go home full, not frustrated and disappointed. Lemonade is very tart. Ambiance is casual but service is A 1

Terrible!!! Brought my son here before a show because I was hearing that they have the best burgers in Chicago. The one star is for the cashier who took our order. He was very nice. I paid $50 for a single cheeseburger, a double cheeseburger, one order of fries, and two drinks. The burgers are advertised is coming with sauce, grilled onion and pickle. When we sat down and started to dress our burgers, I realized they forgot the onions on both so I went back inside and he took our sandwiches back to fix the order. I took the burgers back to our table, we open the buns again, and still no onion. I felt like this was a prank! I go back up and I say to the guy that maybe I am misunderstanding something because again, there are no onions. With a gloved finger he points out to me the 3 specs of grilled onion on the sandwich as if this is the normal amount that goes on their burgers. I asked for two cups of grilled onions and by the time I finally got them and sat down, our burgers were cold. On top of that, they were not very flavorful. The only seasoning I could taste was salt. The pickles didn't even have a pickle flavor! My son thought the fries were nothing special and we have very standard lemonade with way too much ice which gave us about three gulps of lemonade. So incredibly disappointed and will absolutely not to be back! Honestly, I should have asked for my money back.

Are you guys precooking burgers? I have ordered from you guys a few times and my burger is always cold. Fries too? I ordered on Door Dash at 12:35pm, my food was delivered by 12:54pm. While, I appreciate the restaurants intention to get my order to me fast, I wouldn't mind waiting a little longer for warm food. My burger and fries were cold. My food had to be pre cooked. From the restaurant to my house all with in 21 mins to deliver me cold food. Meanwhile, the Banana Pudding Pie Concrete was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So good!

Didn't even know there was a Small Cheval in Hyde Park, so I was very excited to stop by and try it! I've had Small Cheval before, just at the West Loop location, but Hyde Park was equally as great! It still has that old timey yet nice look inside. The girl at the counter was great. There's some seating on the inside, but plenty of outdoor seating which also leads to the park next to it. As for the food, I really enjoyed it! I got a single cheeseburger, but I realized why they push the double. The buns are so big you barely taste the meat! I also added lettuce and tomatoes. The fries are really good too!

Decent fast food in Hyde Park. In my opinion it's better than Five Guys. Good burgers , good chicken sandwiches , decent fries. I'm picky with fries. I really liked the chicken sandwich. Had to try it since it's "famous". Husband got the double cheeseburger. We cut our sandwiches in half to enjoy the next day. He tried as is for first try but will pass on sauce for second time. Yes this means there will be a second time. (And more). Sandwich/ burger heats decently in microwave. Not a terrible wait time for food. Can be busy but the staff rock. Took our food to go. Walked about 20 min home (warm day). I would probably bring something to keep food warm when we go back in winter.

I have to admit that this is a cool spot in an area with a lot of neat businesses. I had my elderly client in the area, and she loved revisiting her old neighborhood. Food was very good, and service was nice. There is enough seating to enjoy some grub while reveling in the inviting atmosphere.

As a burger aficionado, I'm not at all extremely particular about the build of beef licious salad covered in bread, however, this place gives me a new class of lessons I hadn't known I'd be so late for! Upon entering the enticing brick and mortar arena of class and burger, I went to my go to. Bacon. A bacon cheeseburger...as is. And what I was given wasn't so bad. Of course mustard, ketchup and some mayo is like the common denominator for my interest, however , this placed offered an alternative and it bothered me a tad bit. Yes, there is decor and artsy menu options Yes, there are live philodendrons cascading the walls BUT. a lady wants mustard on her burger...a lady wants lettuce and tomato without asking! Well, the young man behind the register taking the order was oh so pleasant...freely given and genuine. As he would say "the best things in life are free" Had I entered the building only seeing his smile and walking out sans burger...I would have given this five stars, Also, target across the street isn't really my friend like that. Try CVS and sign up for those coupons...them receipts be longer than toilet paper but so worth it if you remember to clip them for your next visit.

Solid spot for takeout on a weekday night when I visited some friends. They touted this as a neighborhood favorite of theirs and I cen cerainly see why - quality burger beyond your standard Five Guys (which I would consider "higher-end" of fast food - so definitely felt like I was getting a good product and for a fairly reasonable price! Fries were just fries - nothing crazy special about them - but the aioli that came with? Liquid gold. It's in a good location in Hyde Park in what I thought was a fairly scenic old-style building. Overall walked away very content!

Great. I happened to be in the area when it opened for the day. So not busy and quick service. As always tasty food. I tried the chicken sandwich, as I have already tried their burgers before. The chicken sandwich is great. Very solid option for a chicken sandwich. Ambiance always great.

As someone who's been a regular for a while, you all are too expensive to be playing these games. Look at the pictures. What were you all doing in the kitchen? These are simple basic things I asked for. The chicken is gristly and hardly coated... it's not even warm-- then you forget the cheese. The straws for the shakes aren't present, neither is the garlic aioli. Chicken tenders were gristly too. It's like you all just threw the damn thing together after playing football with it in the kitchen. I gotta call corporate or someone because this service and food was incredibly lackluster... could've just went to McDonalds.

I had a much better experience at the Hyde park location vs the old town location. I love that they have spreecher root beer on tap. The rainbow birthday cake concrete was absolutely phenomenal. Knocked it out of the park, I was I could get a quart of that to take home. I got my fries well done, and I thought they were exactly as advertised - crispy, crunchy, perfect. They gave me lots of garlic aioli and I probably went through 3-4 of those little cups on my fries. The burger was also delicious, although I think I'll keep with the single, just a personal preference as the burger was delicious and perfectly cooked. The dijionnaise is delightful as always, and the amount of lettuce is always perfect. I had a pick up order, the guys at the counter were delightful. Sad I couldn't sit in, I liked the outdoor picnic bench area, as it's close to a park. 10/10!

This might have been the best burger I've ever had no joke -- idk if it's because I ate it seconds after it was prepared but straight up a religious experience The burger was soft, melted in your mouth, and flavorful. The onions were perfectly caramelized and distributed in every bite. Their sauce was the perfect little addition to step it up a notch (truly the definition of a delicious cheeseburger) To our surprise the fries were also SO GOOD. Crunchy, fresh, salty but not overly done a 10/10 experience for fast yet scrumptious eats.

I had the single cheeseburger and it lived up to the hype. I learned that the single burger is actually a double and the double is actually a triple. I was recommended to add an egg and bacon to the burger and I'm glad I did. Each bite was a glorious burst of flavor. The bacon is epic. Thick juicy slices. The cheeseburger was perfect. I didn't need additional condiments and that never happens for me. The fries were good too and came with a delicious aioli. For beverages, I loved my Arnold Palmer. I also tried a cocktail--the Long Island Iced Coffee. It was pretty strong. I added a shot of bourbon cream to it and that sweetened it up and made it perfect for me. Unfortunately, I didn't have room for dessert. Cute restaurant. Cozy inside. They have an outdoor patio as well. If you don't have a reservation, be prepared to wait. Excellent food. Excellent service. Jennifer took great care of me and made great suggestions. It's pricy but it's worth it.

The process of getting seated through a busy period, and the service throughout was excellent. But as often happens with me, the food didn't live up to the hype. My wife and I were picking up my brother and his son from O'Hare at around 10 am on a Saturday. We had dinner plans with our uncle, but had not planned anything in between. The flight came in on time, and once confirmed we all had the time, my brother suggested going to Chicago to try Au Cheval. He knew about their location LV, but none of us had tried their original location in Chicago. So we drove into Chicago, arriving at the restaurant at 11 (it opens at 10am). There was a check-in stand set-up outside, where someone was taking names/phone numbers to put on the waiting list. We were quoted a 45 minute wait, and got the text to hurry back after about 30 minutes. There was a line to put your name down on the list, so we skipped that by going right in. The friendly hostess seated us in a booth, with a nice view of the kitchen where they were making the burgers in mass. The waitress explained that a single burger meant two patties (each patty is 4 oz, so basically a half pound burger), and a double meaning three. My brother and his son both ordered a double cheeseburger ($19.99 each), and I got a single with added sunny side up egg ($21.48). I wanted my wife to be able to take a bite, so asked for everything to be on the side (sauce, dill pickle slices, and grilled onion bits). We also ordered french fries ($8.99), cooked in duck fat. In the meanwhile, followed a fellow yelpers suggestion and got two Allagash Whites ($9 each) for me and my nephew. It's a really good beer that I've had many times during happy hour, and goes great with rich, greasy food. My wife got something else: the General Janes Chicken, which is their version of Korean Fried Chicken ($24.98). She enjoyed it (the coating was still crispy, and the sauce had that pronounced kochujang flavor that we like). Everything is a la carte here (except for the complementary pickle spear with burgers), so she shared in the ordered fries. Food came out together and was served hot. There is a mandatory 3.25% surcharge, and payment is taken at the table. As mentioned, service was excellent throughout. To be honest, I'm not the right person to judge a burger like this (I like it backyard style, with a lot of lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles...and mayo/ketchup). But my brother and nephew are (they have tried many, many burgers all across the world, and don't like too much toppings on their burger), and they said the burger was just OK for them. I liked the frites (cooked in duck fat)...very light in color, but still crispy on the outside. However, nobody else really ate them, saying they weren't great. It's unusual for me to be the least critical after dining, but I'm sure it had something to do with the observation that I didn't have to pay for it (since it was my brother's treat).
