8/30/2024 - Grabbing some late night shawarma of yum!
    Mikhail H.

I am not a food cart person but this place made me reconsider that. First of all - what a completely lovely gent working there to answer all our questions with such patience. We were mighty hungry after seeing a performance over at PSU and I remembered that this spot had a few carts open late. We were there till pretty wee hours and they were still open. A lot of times you get creepers lurking around but nope, just sweet college kids grabbing late night vittles. There are some tables and trash cans across the street by the Engineering building for PSU also. We were going to sit in my car and were sort of annoyed till we saw those seats. Be aware that Portland has rats - it really is a city thing so you will see rats and its not a reflection on the food places and they won't go near you. Anyhoo... my friend is vegan and she was super happy with the options. He was out of a few things and was really great working with her so she could substitute things and also try a lot of things. I asked about the difference between the shawarma and the gyro and it is mostly the bread. They use a standard pita for the gyro where the shawarma is an Iraqi bread made local and it is bigger - do that! That bread was incredible. My friend and I were also delighted that he had Coke AND Pepsi since she likes Coke and I am Pepsi though they also have Orange Crush and I would have done that. I appreciate an ice cold beverage and options - I wish there was ice but that ain't happening at a food truck (which is one of my issues with food trucks) though my drink was wonderfully cold which was great! Their prices are pretty great too considering that portion size is epic!!

    Philly cheesesteak

The owner made me a custom Philly cheesesteak loaded with steak, mushrooms, cheese, and house-made sauces, hands down the best meal I had during my week in Portland, and easily the best Philly cheesesteak I've ever had. He was incredibly friendly, and you can tell he truly cares about both the quality of the food and the customer experience. Highly recommend!

Here from Las Vegas on vacation for my 1 year with me and my lady. Wow this place needs to be in Las Vegas in Henderson green valley plaza. My father is the executive chef for a pvt golf club in Las Vegas; I know good food. There is no place in LV like this with this much freaking flavor done the right way. The #11 is the bees knees. Awesome spot.

Great late-night grub! Location: One of the many amazing food pods that Portland has to offer. Food: The food tastes amazing. I ordered the lamb gyro and was taken back by how big the portion was! It is very much so worth the price ($7). Their most popular is the lamb gyro and I can see why. Their gyros are packed with a lot of flavor. Service: The worker was super nice and friendly. She was not only the cashier but also the cook. Your food might take awhile but it's understandable as only one person is working for the whole pod. She had a such a positive attitude. Overall, I would definitely come back to get another gyro!

Fast service compared to the other carts in this pod. Great selection, not too crazily overpriced. Ordered the kofta saj, which was pretty spot on delicious!

Please get the Lamb over rice, you will not regret it. SO GOOD!!! Double Lamb Gyro on the left

This place was my favorite meal during our trip to Portland, for both taste and worth it factor. An actually distance too - this place was like half a block away from our hotel and open for the longest hours. My only regret is not having this on our first night as well so I could've eaten it twice! My boyfriend and I split the lamb over rice and the double lamb gyro. Both were really tasty but the dish that keeps me up at night is the lamb over rice. It's just a perfect proportion of everything - rice, meat and sauce. And the lamb is tender and so flavorful. Man I really wish I can be eating it again right now... The lamb gyro was good, but the meat was just enough even though we got the double. I think without the double, it'd definitely be way too bready, so I do wish they'd put more meat in the gyro overall. While we were only in Portland for 1.5 days and 2 nights, this place left such a strong impression, I really want to come back next time we're in town!

Came down to midtown beer garden and had to try this delicious looking food truck ! The owner was friendly , prices average , and the menu had a wide variety for being a food truck . The flavors were great I'll definitely be returning . Check it out for a fresh bite ! My order - Mezza plate : lots of falafel , tabouli, hummus, and yummy tzatziki ( $13 )

Lamb gyro ($5 -best deal in Portland!)
    Jordan H.

Quite possibly the best bang for your buck in Portland! I was staying at the Marriot across the street and needed some late night grub and found Gyro Place on Yelp. To my surprise, their lamb gyro here is ONLY $5. Yes, $5 flat. Coming from the Bay Area, I couldn't believe it, where something like that would run upwards of $13 plus tax. Aside from the ridiculously amazingly deal, the lamb gyro is delicious and one of the best I've had. The pita bread was warm and fresh, and the lamb meat was super tender, tasty, and flavorful. They don't skimp on the meat either, as it was overflowing out of the pita. I loved the gyro so much, I went back two more times before my trip in Portland ended. Contrary to what I've read in reviews, they are not open 24/7. I asked and they are open until 2 AM every day. Depending on who is making your gyro, the white sauce can be a bit much, so I would recommend asking for light sauce or sauce on the side. They make everything fresh to order, so it could take 10 min or so to wait for your order. They take credit card. If you're coming late at night, be vigilant in the area, as you will mostly likely run into a homeless person. One time when I was waiting for my order around 10:30 PM I was approached by three separate homeless people. Just FYI.

    Beef Kofta over rice
    Gabriel H.

This place was just alright. Halal Guys is better, and this pales in comparison to what you can find in New York on any street. Keep in mind that we visited this place when the Pacific Northwest was experiencing a terrible heatwave. The man working this place looked absolutely exhausted. He ended up closing early after us, so this just may have been an off day for him. My partner and I ordered: - BEEF KOFTA OVER RICE: The kofta was dry and rubbery. - CHICKEN PLATE: Chicken Shwarma was dry as well. Both plates came with hummus, which was standard, and a sad wilted iceberg lettuce salad. Even though prices were affordable, portion sizes were quite small. My partner and I were still hungry after finishing our food. Maybe the food here is better when it isn't 115 degrees outside!

    Double Lamb Gyro
    Su-jen Y.

Probably the best lamb gyro I've had in the Portland area. The gyro meat was recooked after ordering with onions etc. and the bread was super soft. Highly recommend. The double meat gyro was 8 but single was 5. Honestly I think the single would have been more worth it because I didn't feel that there was a double portion of meat in the double meat gyro

We came on Thursday night so there was live jazz which was incredible. Let's get into the Food, (everything came out fast! ) Nokoss wings: Whatever sauce is on top is addicting! Very aromatic and very flavorful, enjoyed it a lot, will be thinking about these wings for a while. Goat stew and jollof and plantains: note, I am Nigerian so (I am biased lol) my expectations were very high. The Goat was tender, plantains very perfect, and stew on the sweeter side. Jollof wars out of mind, i appreciated the simplicity of the rice and stew. Poulet Braisse: 1000/10, seasoned, tender, filling. Definitely would order 100x again. We do not have this in Nigeria and I'm very jealous. Overall, as a fellow West African, I was really proud to see an African restaurant not only doing really well but being a pillar of the community. BEST MEAL IN PORTLAND!!!!!…read more Saw this place randomly while looking for a place to eat after a long flight. It was late and not many places were open. This place was closed but a middle eastern place that serves cheesecake was soo intriguing that i knew i needed to come back. Came back Saturday night and they had no tables and was packed. However, they tried to accommodate us so much. However, the night was in our favor. As we started to order take out, a lady was kind enough to give up her table since she was eating alone. It was a small table for 3 people but the staff was sooo accommodating i have no words. They even gave free dessert to the lady who was kind. Then luck would have it, the table next to us never showed up for their reservation so they gave us that table. Finally, we ordered. Turned out, i also got the last shawarma too. Everything happens for a reason! We also got the Saudi chicken kabsa and cheesecakes. The biggest compliment i can give is when the food came, none of us talked for a good 5-7 mins and just sat there in heaven eating. The flavors were soo unique but yet so familiar. If this is Saudi food, i have been missing out. I need to explore more sub categories of middle eastern cuisine. Best bites in Portland for us and that's all i have to describe our experience. Finally, got the Nutella cheesecake and almond caramel cheesecake. I have to say, Nutella was good but easily a skip compared to almond and caramel. Just get 2 of those and you'll be happy. The cakes itself are light and not heavy. They were great end to a great meal. This is a family owned but family loved business. You can see the love as they serve their guests but you can taste the love too. The people are soo sweet and kind and just want to serve you. Please give your love here, because if i lived in Portland, this would my weekly spot.

The tasting menu was $75 each for two people and we got a total of 9 dishes and left full and with leftovers. Not one dish wasn't delicious and I enjoyed how each dish had an unexpected flavor or textural element to keep things interesting. All the ingredients felt fresh and the dishes were bright in color and taste. Despite the larger quantity of food, the meal overall felt well- balanced, healthy, and not too heavy or decadent. I keep thinking about the hamachi crudo that came with this amazing smoky eggplant that complemented the vinaigrette on the fish perfectly. The radicchio salad was addictingly good with the fruity burst of sweetness from the cherries. The hummus is insanely rich and pairs well with the thick, fluffy pita. Definitely the standout item we actually ordered. The Baked Eggplant was good too, although it didn't quite wow me. I think there was some mix up, as we were first served the Roasted Eggplant Dip. We flagged the server down to say it wasn't what we ordered, but they let us keep it. Boy were we happy about this! It was the best dish of the night (and a must reorder). The pita to go with the Labneh and the Dip was excellent too. Piping hot and just right.
