Hands down the best lamb gyro I've ever had. My boyfriend and I came here a total of 4 times during our stay in Portland- all for different meals on different days. We had the lamb rice, chicken rice, kofta gyro, lamb gyro, and chicken gyro during our times here. I couldn't stop thinking about the lamb gyro once I had it. It was our go to meal when we couldn't think of a place to eat or if it felt too lazy to search for a place. They don't skimp on anything here! They load up everything with as much meat as possible. I went to the Woodstock location. Amazing taste, I had the lamb gyro, words can't describe how good it is. I'm addicted. My stomach is growling big time afterwards but I don't care, I will be back at least five times before I give up on this place, hopefully me and my stomach can agree on this awesome tasting gyro. For $5, this place is great. I got the lamb gyro, and he stuffs it with goodies. Granted, it's mostly vegetables (I found red bell peppers, carrots, cauliflower, cucumber, lettuce) and sauce, but the five strips of lamb was enough. Delicious. I was going to walk back to my hotel to enjoy this about 6 blocks away, but my gyro baby, only clothed around a simple foil wrap and wax paper, would be naked against the cold Portland wind, robbing it of all its warmth. I've heard several people recommend this and when I came into town I knew this would be my first stop. I love Gyro's and this one was suppose to be the best in all of Portland and at a cheap price. I got off the plane, jumped on the Max and headed straight here with carry-on luggage in hand. I didn't care, I was hungry and was on a mission. I got to the food cart which I've seen many like, but have never eaten at in Portland. I scanned over the menu even though I knew nothing was going to change my mind on what I was going to order. Lamb gyro coming right up! They call my order and I recieve this giant gyro that looks way too big for the $5 price. The cubes of lamb throw me off since I'm used to having the shaved meat, but whatever I'll give it a go. The meat is covering the whole top with the veggiest under it. I take my first bite and absolutely love it. The cubes of lamb are so damn tender i don't think I ever had a gyro this good. Bite after Bite til this gyro is nothing, but juice on a wrapper. Crap! I forgot to take a pic. I was so hungry i devoured it to upload a pic. Oh well I will be back and I was. I ended up going back 2 days later with another friend who was in town, but this time opted for the rice gyro plate to try something different. I've always considered Halal and/or Kosher indicators to be a good sign. They do not guarantee anything about the preparation, but are an indication that someone's paying attention. Fortunately, Small Pharoah's takes quality ingredients and does something very tasty with them. This is probably one of my favorite food cart in this block! My favorite dish is the Falafel/Chicken over rice. This dish has a little bit of everything I want; Protein of choice, seasoned broth rice, hummus, pita bread, cucumber sauce, rice stuffed grape leaves, and a salad. Everything is delicious. I'm the type that tries to skip over the rice, but omygosh their rice is so amazing that I can't stop eating it. So worth the $7! It's actually a plentiful amount that I usually eat half for lunch and save the other half for another meal, otherwise I'll be stuffed. I been lax with my yelp reviews lately and haven't rated the last 15 places I've been to since they weren't terrible nor great. But this place made me log in and type this up. I got the chicken over rice ($7) and the lamb gyro ($5) thinking it'll be your typical middle eastern fare. WOW! the portion size for one is ridonkulous. The young woman who was working was quiet but friendly and efficient as far as speed was concerned. She was thoughtful enough to double wrap the gyro (some carts just hand you an open gyro sandwich at which point I have to tell them to wrap it in foil - uh, it's pouring out and you want me to eat this where?!) The nice thing about most of the carts that sit on this street is that there's small covered sitting areas you can eat without getting soaked. I brought my stuff home and am floored by both the flavor and amount of food I got. There's even a complimentary dolmas next to my chicken and rice and a nice tzatziki with lots of cucumbers. Everything tastes fresh and the sauce on the chicken is perfectly seasoned. The lamb gyro for $5 is great too. There are tons of gyro carts in downtown with forgettable names and meh flavors but this one I will remember to hit up next time. read more

Their female employee who works fridays sometimes likes to take tips without permission. and since this establishment doesn't exactly give you receipts or a way to confirm credit cards are being used correctly I'd recommend using cash Or, better yet, just not going to an establishment that steals money from you when you literally don't have the money to give them a tip and end up overdrafting. I'm now short thirty bucks thanks to the overdraft fee all because this lady decided to just steal a tip without my consent. their food's great, but their employees aren't. consider that as you do what I'm gonna do and just order from the gyro place. they may be slower and the food may not be as good, but at least muhammed doesn't fucking steal from you. he's a pretty cool guy too. Is this spelled wrong on purpose? Pharoah's? WHY!? Does it not bother anyone else?! So I read some disturbing reviews about this place... lol well it didn't affect me in any way because I read them after I ate here. Just thought they were..... interesting ...... and actually kind of entertaining lol. ANYWAY, the food. It was quite good. Ok, I was slightly inebriated from drinking beers all day, so I was having a fat case of the MUNCHIES.. but I would still think it was good otherwise. I ordered the chicken and rice. The food is inexpensive and they supposedly give generous portions.. But my portions was just normal. It was actually on the small side, but still worth 6 bucks. Might have to do with the fact that they were running out of rice/in the process of making some more. It was really effing good. The yogurt/cucumber/lettuce on the sides didn't do much for me. I kind of preferred that they weren't there, but it's cool. I mixed up everything and asked for hot sauce (which they were also running out of.. so I didn't get that much hmph). The rice was my favorite part. Add some chicken, sauces, etc etc. mmmmmmmmmm. I was happy. Flavor explosions! And we actually had to catch the bus to get home, and it got there just 5 minutes after we got our food. So my friends and I had to hold our food containers in our hands and SIT THERE while the smells TAUNTED US and our DRUNK BELLIES ohmygod. Such torture. Visiting Portland and the food trucks got me nostalgic of life in NYC. Of course, I had a hankering for chicken and rice and searched the reviews for the best places to fulfill that craving. Small pharoah's came to rescue, among other trucks that touted the same signature dish, but what differentiated it was the awesome customer service. TBH, the food was 3-3.5 star (I'm harsh since I've had my fair share of halal carts in nyx), but the service puts it above normal standards of a guy pushing a plate in your face and a stretching a hand for payment in the other. The lady that manned the truck/stand was sweet and took into account any changes her customers wanted in their orders without any huffing or puffing. Their gyro wrap looked pretty good- but from what I tried- the lamb and rice and chicken and rice give you great bang for you buck and they're served super hot (perfect for portland's never ending supply of rain). read more

Was generally roaming around downtown PDX on a weekday evening looking for food trucks and spotted this one on 10th and Alder, with quite a few people milling outside even at 8pm. Went ahead and tried the Lamb over rice (you really can't go wrong with that!) for $6. The food took 10 mins to come, but was piping hot, fresh and very tasty. The lamb itself and rice were amazing, five stars for those. The salad, yoghurt and Dolma were ok, but that's probably just me since I don't like them that much anyway! This place has badass gyros. How badass? Mine was made by Mohammad Ali! No, not the classic boxing legend, but the 9th and Alder food cart legend! The gyro was lamb, sliced thin, only $5.50, loaded with all the good stuff, and made before my eyes. It was overstuffed, delicious, and had a perfect balance of meat, veggies, feta, and sauce. There's some good gyros around here, but this place was pretty freaking tasty! There is outside seating, somewhat covered, and they're open through the dinner rush, so you can come by at 7 and get some deliciousness. The kofta looks amazing, but we haven't tried that yet. Yet. Yeah, next time date night rolls around, we'll be headed there. Give it a shot, it's on the southeast corner of the pod! read more

DISGUSTING! I have eaten a lot of gyros in my days and my Godfather is from Greece. THIS IS NOT A GYRO. The meat was poor quality and served as "chunks". As soon as I tasted it I felt sick as the texture was gross. Not one to be ripped off I returned immediately to ask for my money back. The woman was rude but ultimately gave me my money back for the gyros but not my tip and she refused to take back the soggy and horrible fries. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE.
