Benton Station - Bacon cheeseburger. Had chips instead of fries.

Stopped by Benton Station the other day for lunch. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and fries…read more Unfortunately, the fryer was down for deep cleaning so they substituted a bag of Lays chips. Actually, this is an option for many menu items if you don't want fries. It saves you a couple of bucks and maybe a half-inch off the waistline. The 1/2 lb burger was well cooked, the bacon was tasty, and the lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions were crisp and fresh! I've visited several times over the seven years I've lived in the area and have always had a good experience. Make sure to try the pies if you have room for dessert... or maybe just have dessert instead? They completed a slight remodel a year and a half ago. Nothing major but the place looks nice and clean inside. The kitchen also received completely new appliances and a makeover. There's a small market attached if you need drinks or other sundries for the road. Gas pumps are outside and I think they got new ones recently as they appear to be an improvement over the old ones which were hard to read. Be careful as this is a remote out-of-the-way location so you'll find higher gas prices than elsewhere. Located at the intersections of Highways 6 and 120, Benton Station is owned by the Benton Paiute Tribe. Bishop is 35 miles south, about a half-hour by car. Tonopah, Nevada is 80 miles east, about an hour and 15 minutes drive. Hawthorne, Nevada is 84 miles north, an hour and 20 minutes. Mammoth Lakes via Highway 120 and Benton Crossing Road is 46 miles west, almost an hour's drive. The eastern entrance to Yosemite National Park (at the top of Tioga Pass via Highway 120) is 62 miles away, a little over an hour. If you're in the area and hunger is gnawing at your stomach stop by Benton Station for a bite and a little rest. They're open for breakfast and lunch only!

Long line for only 2 rooms. + Signing up for membership savings is easy. . Decent ambience. + Ample parking, . a bit crowded. - The janitor ran his mop toward me while I was waiting in line for the restroom. He didn't say "Excuse me" or try to get my attention. His momentum and facial expression showed he didn't care. If I hadn't jumped outta the way in time, he almost ran me over. I had: $2.50 x2 Vita Coco treats + $0.35 2 bananas + $4.99 box of 4 kiwis + $12.99 San Pedro sandwich + tax = $23.33

This is a public safety risk. This is no longer meat that should be sold, and should be in the garbage. Then what is the deal with no cases of water? Are cases of water not drank in this town? We needed some fruit, and vegetables. We were able to scrape up some produce. Was not the easiest because things were not getting replenished. Many holes on the shelves. We saw employees having a good time bs'ing. No manager around, Supervisor....not for me...for the employees who are messing around! Place is a hot mess, and in need of health department inspection.

They have small, old fashioned shopping carts that are convenient and save you from having to carry your items in your arms. The meats in the cold case looked good and the prices weren't bad, at all. They have large bags of ice available (always an important "must have" for the camp ice chest!), plus some clever person also included frozen 1 gallon water jus for those who know that block ice lasts longer. At $1.99, these frozen jugs are a good economical choice for keeping your perishables cold. The wine selection was unremarkable. Unless you're used to bottom-shelf wines, you are probably going to be disappointed. The beer selection is much better, an you'll find a small selection of microbrews here, like stuff from Lagunitas and Mammoth Brewing Co. The produce selection was not large, but what was there looked well-trimmed and fresh. You will find some of the basic carrots, cabbages, limes, apples, and onions, but not the cilantro or other more specialized items. The staff is friendly and helpful. It's an old-time local grocery store that saves you from having to drive all the way to the next big town of Bishop to do basic grocery resupply.
