When visiting Yosemite National Park, we recommend trying the breakfast and deli sandwiches at Degnan's Kitchen before or after your hike. They also have Peet's coffee. Degnan's Kitchen is located at Yosemite Village. They have restrooms and water to fill your water bottles. There's indoor seating and picnic tables outside. You can also buy groceries or souvenirs at the Village Store next door to Degnan's Kitchen. You can catch the Yosemite Valley free shuttle service to take you to many of the scenic locations if you don't feel like doing the long hike to each location. From Yosemite Village, we walked to point #1 on the map: Lower Yosemite Fall and the Cook's Meadow Loop, the waterfalls you see in my pictures. This location is kid and stroller friendly. Hate to give anything at Yosemite less than a 5 star review, but we got our food here only because the Village Grill closed 20 minutes earlier ( insert angry emoji) for " maintenance "... after waiting about 10 minutes in a very slow moving line ( I get it, they're making individual orders), I grabbed a turkey pesto ciabatta sandwich from the grab and go fridge, a stick of cheese, some sweet potato chips, and an ice tea. Cashier was friendly and I was very lucky to find a place to sit and eat. As I was seated at a long table, the people next to me had delicious smelling soup--and mentioned that the soup was in a separate line, so I had hubby go get some vegetarian lentil soup, which was yummy!! My sister had high hopes for Degnan's since she read some blogs about how Yosemite finally had a decent eatery. Sadly standards are very low at our national parks. Degnan's is in Yosemite Village and has plenty of seating and a nice water bottle refill station. The food fell way short of expectations. I had a pastrami on rye. There was very little meat, quite a bit of sweet slaw and it was so undertoasted I felt it would have been better of they skipped that step. The good news is at around $10 per sandwich it isn't expensive, but stick to bringing in your own food to Yosemite. read more

We stopped by Degnan's Kitchen for lunch when we visited the park. We were happy to see that it wasn't too busy, and there was plenty of seating. The location is cafeteria style, and you can also order Peet's Coffee at the same time. We saw that there were only really options for sandwiches and soups, so we decided to get a BLT and roast beef sandwich. The price was about what we expected for food in the park, and we quickly got our sandwiches made, got some chips and drinks for the side, and paid for our meal. There were tons of seating in and out of the building, so we took a seat inside for shade and AC. We saw somebody walking around and wiping tables as people came and went, which was nice. The sandwiches themselves were okay. I enjoyed my BLT. It had a decent amount of bacon paired with the lettuce and tomatoes. I also liked that it was toasted, adding some crunch to the sandwich. The roast beef didn't have much flavor, unfortunately. The sauce did a bit more to add to the sandwich overall, but it felt like it was sticking to the roof of your mouth. If you're a coffee snob like me, you already know the struggle in Yosemite Valley because most of the coffee options aren't great. So let me save you the trouble: you really only have two decent choices. One is here at Degnan's, where they serve Peet's Coffee, and the other is the Starbucks inside Base Camp Eatery. Degnan's also offers a few small pastries to pair with your drink. I want to give a special shout out to Maria, who was working the counter during our visit. She was so friendly and refreshingly honest. She realized she forgot to apply a discount for the guest ahead of me, immediately called him back, and corrected it. She absolutely didn't have to do that, but actions like that show real integrity. I love seeing that kind of customer care in such a busy national park setting. Just a heads up: Degnan's doesn't have a huge food selection. Our friends grabbed a bagel and a cinnamon roll, which were perfect for a quick bite or something easy to take on the go. And honestly, if you find yourself wanting to complain... take a breath and remind yourself why you're here. You didn't come to Yosemite for craft coffee or gourmet food. Degnan's Kitchen is the perfect spot to grab something to eat while exploring Yosemite Valley! After an amazing morning hiking we decided to check out Degnan's Kitchen. Originally I thought it was a restaurant, but it is actually more of a food hall with multiple food options varying from sandwiches, pizzas and a coffee bar. The place since to be newly renovated with plenty of open seating indoors and outdoors. They also have free WiFi which is not easy to find within the park and I noticed plenty of people were working from here. As for the food, I decided to go with their sandwich bar which was amazing. Everything is freshly made and cooked just right. They also have other to-go options in case you are looking for something quick or for a bite to take on your hike. Last but not least, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful during our visit. If you're visiting Yosemite and want lunch, Degnan's is the option you should go with. My friends and I ordered the BLT, roast beef, chicken breast, and hummus sandwiches with a chili beef soup on the side. Ingredients were fresh and sandwiches were all tasty (we felt the hummus sandwich though could've had a bit more spice to it). Otherwise, we all LOVED the sandwiches and the very clean, almost modern interior. The interior was very fitting of Yosemite cabin and there were plaques of cabin historical moments, so that was nice to read. If you can't decide, GET THE CHILI BEEF SOUP!! Very warm and tasty with a hint of sweetness in the soup, making it super well balanced. It is confusing as to where you pay, but you pretty much go up the sandwich counter, let them know what you want, then either pay at the Peets cash register (when there aren't many people) or at the regular checkout lines. All team members very kind, welcoming and helpful! They serve breakfast until 11 am along with a Peet's coffee shop. Services are closed from 11:00 am to 11:30 am but there are grab and gos like sandwiches, drinks, snacks, etc. They don't have many gluten free options but we were able to order one of the breakfast sandwiches without the bread. We were hiking in Yosemite last week, and got hungry. We happened to be nearby, so we stopped in here. It's a rustic type cafeteria set up, clean and well staffed. You can buy a ready made sandwich, or order one from the eclectic and interesting menu as we did. There were quite few of us, so we ordered a wide variety, and everyone was happy with their choice. The salmon sandwich was particularly good, with avocado, and a wonderful Teriyaki type sauce. It was chilly so we ordered coffees to go with our meal, and the barista was exceptionally helpful. Whenever I write a one star review, I like to point out my overall statistics. Out of nearly 400 reviews, this will be only the seventh to receive one star. I save one star reviews for cases of horrific customer service or blatant food safety violations. The customer service here has been great. Unless you file pest control under customer service? (I blame Aramark.) Last week, I was enjoying my favorite sandwich from Degnan's: the hummus plus bacon. The sandwich was alright. I don't love their bread selection, but the ingredients are all right. I was eating and working on my laptop when a RESTAURANT MOUSE ran out from between my feet. I was sitting in my favorite seat, which is the booth in the corner opposite of the fireplace. Now, I know you may be thinking-- it's Yosemite, of course there are mice. Well, there are mice everywhere, but they're never supposed to be inside of restaurants. And we're not talking about a kangaroo mouse, a chipmunk, or a squirrel. It was a deer mouse, which is the only kind I've ever personally seen in a restaurant. It didn't come from outside. It came from the wall between the kitchen and dining room. From inside the wall behind the booth. I've worked in restaurants for about twenty years, and rodents are just not an acceptable issue. This isn't a common thing that secretly happens everywhere. Throughout all my years, I've actually only seen a small handful of mice inside of restaurants. It's just not okay. Period. Not even in Yosemite. Never. Gross. Couple this with the fact that we know that the rodents in Yosemite can carry plague or hantavirus. Hantavirus can be transmitted through dust, which would include a rodent walking across any of the surfaces, ingredients, or utensils used in food preparation. Theoretically, I think you could catch hantavirus from eating here. I left immediately, and have no intentions of returning any time soon. read more

Who would have thought? After a long hike this is a nice spot for a meal. The cabin like feel and open area gave it a rustic atmosphere. There were tables along the walls and long wooden tables with high chairs for communal dining. If you wanted to sit outdoors there were tables that accommodated up to four people. We sat inside at the communal tables sharing our meal with strangers. It's family oriented so everyone was amiable. The ordering line was long but the food was delicious. We tried the roast beef sandwich, chicken breast sandwich and salmon sandwich with the soups. All of the flavors and seasonings were spot on. My only complaint would be the salmon sandwich because there was very little salmon for the price. We did not get a slice of salmon but small bits. The hot chocolate was yummy!!! I'm writing this just from the context of being in a remote National Park. Degnan's Kitchen is a three-in-one: Sandwich shop, quick snack store, and café. And for what it is, it's more than adequate. The sandwich section is like a Subway, but with fresher ingredients and a higher price tag (they must source their supply from local farms or something). Unlike Subway, there are no cockroaches and the workers seem pretty psyched to be there. And who wouldn't, they get to work and live in the most gorgeous National Park in the country. The café is standard affair: It's a Peet's franchise with also slightly higher prices and a smaller selection. Good enough to get the heart racing before ascending Half Dome. The interior is spacious. There are enough tables and chairs to host a small banquet. And a few outlets scattered around to charge phones or edit your waterfall selfies. There's Wi-Fi. It sort of works when it feels like it, which isn't often. Kind of like me at the office on a Monday. Also like the Wi-Fi, there are sort of other restaurants attached to the Degnan's Kitchen that open when they just feel like it. And apparently they didn't feel like it during my entire five-day stay at the park. Getting here can be a bit of a pain. Unless you like having breakfast at 5am, don't bet on parking and don't bet on the shuttle. Don't even consider coming here if it's in any way inconvenient. But if you're staying nearby, Degnan's feels like your home away from home. A sense of solace when you've been sleeping in a mosquitoes nest for five nights. read more

And the person in front of me had a toasted sandwich that was left in too long and burnt. They were so ready to get their sandwich and out of the line that they just accepted the burnt sandwich. If you came here for WiFi, I've got good news and bad.  Good: There is WiFi. The password is/was BridgetDegnan. It works.  Bad: It is slow - 1.5 mbps.  Good: Your phone also works here. And works well. 195 mbps on ATT 5G.  Bad: You'll be using your 'unlimited' data like crazy on your 3-hour Zoom call, withering away in the cafe while you stare outside the big windows at the beautiful nature you can't enjoy.  Good: Seating is abundant, and the food prices are particularly reasonable given the location. There's also a fantastic market a 3 min walk away.
