But…read moretoday I ordered two deli sandwiches, one on whole wheat and the other on a Dutch crunch roll. The Dutch crunch roll was very stale and not edible. The roll was so hard I could not bite into it. These sandwiches are $9.99 each, for that price everything should be really good quality. The woman working at the deli was very nice and did a good job making the sandwiches but I wish she would have noticed that the rolls were stale, and told me so up front that they were not fresh and to order a different kind of bread. (My husband gave me half his sandwich on whole wheat otherwise I'd still be starving. Am saving the meat and cheese from my sandwich for another time). I would have gone back and asked for a refund but not worth the drive from Hayward so am writing this review instead.

Their hours are still pretty generous tho like 7 am to 11 pm. If I do venture in here, I'll try and do it early am like 9am as to avoid most of the crowd and chaos. I usually stay away from any food shopping here, unless there is a sale up front like bananas or juice that I can quickly grab without going down a food aisle. There's no meat counter/section here but there are reach in fridges with some prepackaged stuff. And because this is Union City, I amusingly find Filipino products here that I'm sure aren't at other locations. I usually come here for big bags of charcoal. They have a great selection from briquets to natural mesquite to pellets. They are all in the gardening section on a massive rack. And they will be at a price that is better than most, which Walmart is actually beneficial for. I'll also grab outdoor/work clothes here. For those occasions when I'm planning on getting clothes wrecked like for camping/working in the yard/home improvement projects. The nature of the store is evolving, in that more and more things are locked up. Which is a sad commentary on our society actually. Socks, belts, even toothpaste can be locked up, and to find someone to open a case up is usually more cumbersome than it has to be. Which is why 1-2 times a year for a few specific things is more than enough for me. See ya after Labor Day when my dual bag of charcoal needs to be replenished.

I went to this location yesterday on September 30 and had an abysmal experience with Smart & Final in the morning during my school at home. I went to GameStop next door to buy 2 $50 Nintendo eShop Card for me and Mega Man 11. Since it's closed now until it's open at 12 p.m. so, I ended up going to Smart & Final to buy the 2 $50 Nintendo eShop Card so that I could buy Mega Man 11 digitall for Nintendo eShop $50 + $50 is $100. After I paid $100 to the cashier, the first thing I asked him how do I revealed the code, and he said I need to scratch it with my quarter just like a lottery. But however the store manager Tammy is very rude, takes personal calls on the floor, when asking for assistance she will tell you to back up six feet - fine - but why are you speaking to your associates like 3 feet away? I cant stand people like that. I walked 18 minutes to go to the store and was treated poorly and I'm in a rush to buy something, I felt discriminated and insulted by her, I didn't see her as I'm walking in this location, and I didn't yell at her for being rude to the customers, so I was in a rush, to buy 2 $50 Nintendo eShop cards which is $100. I will not recommend this store to anyone. I cannot allow someone like him to talk to me and my family that way. Bye-bye Tammy and Smart & Final Extra! I have been to Smart & Final for a year and we bought our food for my son and the staff was friendly and I was rather shocked to see the negative reviews about the manager named Tammy in this store! We had a completely opposite experience there - a very, very good one. We went there during the pandemic like 4 times with my son. While we went there, I didn't see and meet Tammy, the manager of this place. I though she's just very nice and that bogus review about her being a rude manager, should be treated very friendly to those customers during the pandemic. We walked around to buy some food for my husband and son and the manager Tammy was nice to us, as well as the staff and cashiers. I received 5 stars if I could because I'm shocked to see the negative reviews about Tammy written by Nadia and Charlene and Tammy was wonderful! I bought TGI Fridays mozzarella sticks, pack of chips, and green tea for my son and he loves it. Tammy, you're a wonderful manager that I ever know in my entire life I didn't see you! This is my go-to location in Union City. I live closer to the Hayward store; but the selection seems to be better in Union City. I am an early morning shopper. This store is always well stocked with all the sale items for the week. The number of items are always in good supply. If an item seems to be sold out - the staff have always been very helpful in checking warehouse inventory for me. Never had a bad experience in Union City. read more

We went to the bakery area, the cakes were there but not ones we wanted. So we left. Again. Not saying Whole Foods isn't a great place. It's just getting parked is the battle which I try not to have to deal with as much as possible. I would rather travel to other Whole Foods to not have to deal with this specific parking lot. Or go when it's not peak times which is probably like weekdays not during lunch.

You see US Foods is one of the big wholesale food distributers that restaurants big and small use. They will deliver big loads of goods whether food or supplies right to the restaurant, usually on pay terms so no cash is handled. And for busy restaurants this is a must, as they constantly need raw goods coming in weekly if not daily. This is the first time I saw a 'US Foods' store. I think they took over something else. But it is a big store/space where almost everything is in bulk and/or wholesale form. For the home cook there is really nothing here that would fit their needs/kitchen unless you like to buy in bulk. 20 - 50 pound bags of beans, sugar or flour is usually just too much for an average Joe to carry to the car, let alone store in a home pantry. But if you like to entertain/cook for a large group like a big birthday, a bbq outing or big holiday get-togethers, then this place may serve you a purpose. I browsed one day and got a good feel for the place and here are my observations. If you go into the fresh produce area or the meat/dairy areas, you will have to go into a refrigerated room. The whole room is about 35 degrees so if you go in there in shorts and/or a t-shirt, then you will not be able to stay in there for too long. Produce not really extensive but you will be able to find some basics. Some things are in cases/big bags but not everything. Actually lots of things in smaller packaging like 2-3 pounds which is doable for a home fridge/usage. I'd say the offerings here are somewhat similar to what you could get at Costco. Meats are a mixed bag. Lots of processed meats like deli meat in whole form. Lots of cheese too but much too bulky for a home fridge. There are pork and beef but all in big/whole chunks. Nothing will be cut into steaks. Big packs too like minimum 10 pounds or more. But if you're cooking for a big group, you're gonna need a minimum of 10 pounds so this may be a draw for me. The bad is for the beef selection, even though the pricing did seem good, there is no 'choice' grade. They use 'select' grade here, which is a notch down from choice. But if you're just braising or slow cooking then this grade would be just fine. Costco only serves 'choice' grade or higher so theirs is more premium. Pork is fine here, I got some pork tenderloin in 2 packs, which is one of the smallest packages I saw, ideal for home usage. Good selection of restaurant ware. Pots, utensils and storage containers. This is a big draw for me as I love restaurant quality storage containers. They are sturdy, with tight lids and many are stackable. These are even hard to find at Costco and Smart and Final. On a weekday morning there is zero traffic here, complete opposite of Costco. Now this is more geared towards restaurants, but knowing if I can get something here or Costco, I will choose this, as the parking and ease to get in and out is an amazing asset to me. I was gonna give them 3 stars for not really being friendly for home usage but given those certain occasions where I'm cooking for 10 or more people, then this place will get a heavy consideration. And drum roll please******no membership card needed. Open to the public. **cymbal crash**
