It is good to know this store has added more organic goods. The produce is fresh even if they are not organic. I am still buying them because Whole Foods is too far. Smart and Final always has the best prices for eggs. read more

I prefer to come here for their fresh and abundant produce. The Lucky's in Union Landing can't compare. Smart & Final is also more affordable! Happy for that. =) read more

This smart and final usually has everything I need in stock. The people are always very helpful and friendly. I wish they would be more considerate with the lines, most times they only have two registers open and the lines are like super long. I shop here for groceries more than any other grocery store. Their prices are reasonable and they are always having specials on produce, meats, and other grocery items. Customer service is always great and items I need are always in stock and produce is fresh. The location is central and is near to many other stores including a Lucky's. Parking is plentiful so I'm able to be in and out without wasting extra time looking for parking. I also love that it is right next to Michael's and Petco. read more

After reading the other reviews maybe I'm just unlucky. I go here occasionally but try not to. The selections are great and what I'm looking for they usually have. That's the good part. It seems that they never have enough Checkers and if someone ahead of you is having an issue, you may be in for a delay. The amount of people in line doesn't seem to effect the managers. It appears they have enough staff as people are in various aisles stocking shelves. Thats just my opinion and as I said earlier, I try staying away from here. read more

This smart and final is great. It's clean, shelves are neatly organized, great selection, and there is plenty of room. My wife comes to shop here every weekend and sometimes the whole family will go. When I go, I like looking at the items you can't find anywhere else like their hot sauces, spices and peppers. They are priced appropriately. They have a great selection of items for the family. Sometimes my wife would cook me a delicious steak and she would be so happy cause she bought it on sale here. This place along with Costco is perfect for our family of 5. We are and will be repeat customers. read more

Went to the store to search for a few things for my daughters Birthday party and an employee named Jose helped me out with what i was looking for. He was nice, funny, and patient with me. The other Employees werent as helpful as he was. I suggest going to Jose he knows the store better than the other employees. read more

Came here today to pick up some fresh produce and small items. I also like to skim the clearance aisles for odds and ends. Found a great deal on generic batteries Eveready Gold- a 24pk for only $1.49! Score!! I get to the cash register and the clerk says it is mislabeled and that the real price is $7.49. Manager (Tammy) walks by and confirms it is mislabeled. GOOD Customer service would be for the manager to give you the price that they messed up on and honor that price. I showed her the clearly mismarked label and after the managers rude and obnoxious attitude she says"Fine, just give it to her". Now I remember why I don't shop here! Go to the Lucky's down the street at least they are nice down there and know how to treat people. read more

Terrible experience at Smart & Final! Don't bother to go to Smart & Final if you think their flyer says they have a good deal. They put limit on items when there is no mention on limit in the flyer. They don't give raincheck on special items. IF you complain to the manager, they said there is fine print in the flyer that the store reserve the right sell (or not to sell) to customers. Now I know, Smart & Final is so arrogant. Here is what happens. I rec'd the store flyer in mail and the special was only good for 72 hours (Fri-Sun). I went in the Union City store last Friday at 4pm trying to buy some mango. When I got in, the store said they ran out already! The staff at the produce said I can get a rain check at the cashier, I went to the cashier, and the cashier said they don't give out rain checks since that was their first day and sale will not end until Sunday. And asked me to come back later. I went back again on Sunday morning, the mango were still out, I also wanted to buy some oranges and mandarin (Cuties), they were all out!! I went to the cashier and asked for the rain checks, they said they don't give out rain checks for the 72 hours special items (that's different from what they said on Friday ), and on top of that, the cuties are not even on the 72 hours special. The staff didn't even know what the store have specials for that week !? Note: BTW, there were many unhappy customers in the store at the time becos they couldn't find the items they need like me. I demanded to talk to the manager - I wanted to make sure their management is aware the way the front staff is treating the customers. Two managers came out, Dave Montoya and Don. I told them I was in the store on twice, Friday and Sunday, when the store has no mango and it is in the front page ad for 72 hours special. Dave said he knew about it and the store doesn't give out rain checks and said some customers have been buying too many that's why they run out. He told me to come back Monday (the 3rd time !?) since they have extended the sale 1-day. As for the cuties, why I was talking to Dave, one of his staff said he found one in the back, when I looked at it, there were 'molds' in the mandarins !? As for the oranges, Dave said there were ~10 left (which looks really bad with bruise) and I am welcomed to buy it. Are you kidding me? And Dave told me the store manager authorize that instruction. His attitude is - if you don't like it, too bad! And then he tried to ignore me and went back to his office. I stopped him and asked for his name and card, then he gave me the biz card with the name Steve Bega, I said is that your name, he said no, the card is the store manager's, and he left. Don, the other manager who has been quiet, explained to me that the store orig order'd 2000 cases mango but only 1000 showed up, that's why they ran out. He is trying to be nice, he gave me $2 worth of oranges rain checks. But no rain checks on Mango or Cuties still. The part that bothers me were: If the grocery store is putting a big ad on front page , they should plan ahead and make sure they have enough to satisfy the customer (after the ad is to lure customer in) , especially when the sale only lasts 3 days. Running out on the 1st day is not acceptable. On top of that, the store put up the sign limit 8 mango per customers; when there is no limit mentioned in the flyer. Same thing for the oranges. If the unexpected happens, demand is bigger than supply, giving out rain checks is an 'acceptable' (not the best) alternative that most customers can accept. If you are not planning to give out rain checks, you need to say it in the flyer (like' while supply lasts'). These are all basic Retail 101. I was surprised the Smart & Final management didn't realize that or no contingent plan nor risk management. Instead, Smart & final pointed to me that in the bottom of the flyer (where the fine print so small that nobody can read) that Smart & Final reserved their right to serve (or no to serve) their customer. That's bad bad bad!!! What's worse? Their management is supporting, authorizing the instructions. And the attitude is rude and not friendly at all. The verdict: No way I go back the 3rd time. Actually, I would not shop in this store again and am sharing my experiences with all my yelp-friends and family members. Good thing there are many shops around, Lucky, Safeway, Raley, Walmart, FoodMax here I go! Remember, you have been warned. read more

Very poor customer service, you have to wait at least 30 minutes in line to get checked out, no express lines and the manager is not a team player, you have to wait 45 minutes for a manager to answer to a page. read more

needed to get some groceries for the homestead and was next door getting some art supplies so i popped in here to see what was up. now, i like the organic section at grocery stores, i like farmers markets and all that healthy jazz, but i could not beat the prices here!! i bought 20lbs of carrots for next to nothing! a carrot is a carrot and i just juiced them this morning, tastes great to me! my husband can eat anything he wants and stay trim so i got so much meat i can't believe i found room for it in our fridge. decent produce and meats and snaaaacks! it's just the two of us but i filled my cart to the brim in under an hour and didn't break the bank. the store was clean, well stocked, found everything i needed (healthy and unhealthy food alike), conveniently located, yes please. as soon as we plow through all our goodies i'm heading back for round two. read more

This store I can not describe its a mess and the managers are not considerate to their employees who are bringing in the money for the company I am sorry I worked here long enough that they cannot realize we are people who need to be heard as well as the customers. Problems do happen and we do the best we can to fix the issue and rudeness and disrespect to employees do not help our situation of the company being short handed in this store. Customers I agree is where we get the money but also they need to be kind to employees who are ringing up their foods and quite a few of these do not earn their money like I do for this company. read more
