We recently attended a baby shower at this banquet hall and it was a wonderful experience. The venue is well maintained , spacious, clean, and decorated in a way that felt both elegant and welcoming. The staff were attentive, professional, making sure everything flowed smoothly throughout the event. From the food service to the set up everything was organized and well managed that really elevated the celebration. The parking was a bit challenging since there was only a small parking lot across the street but plenty of street parking. I stumbled upon this hall while checking out another venue in the area. I contacted Mike and set up a time to tour, and I really appreciated how upfront he was about the price--no hidden fees or unexpected charges. He even acknowledged that we were looking at other places and mentioned nearby halls, which showed me he wasn't being pushy about getting a "yes" right away. My daughter loved the space, so we went back and reserved our date. Thankfully, he had one available since our party is in less than 3 months! We booked for a Friday, which also saved us some money. His calendar looked pretty full, so I'd definitely recommend booking as early as possible. The hall is the perfect size for us and can comfortably fit around 200 guests. Food and security are included in the price, which is a huge plus. I also noticed the restrooms were clean with multiple stalls, and the dance floor in the center is a great size for the party. Working with Mike has been pleasant--he's honest, upfront, and responds to texts quickly. We are hosting an event here and we called Mike the owner to ask for assistance with broken and dirty wine glasses served. The majority 90% of 140 glasses were unwashed, used or broken. I cannot imagine that this was not a health violation. He refused to fix it, got defensive and hung up on me. We had it in our contract (in writing) to have wine clean safe glasses. I want to congratulate Mike of Smart's Banquet Hall. Yesterday, February 3rd 2018 I helped a fellow DJ with sound, lighting and projection. I had previously Deejayed an event exactly two years prior. Let me just say, Mike is very accommodating, professional, courteous and always goes out of his way to make us vendors feel appreciated and respected. He lets us go early to set up equipment, asks us if we need any help and most important, communicates with the upmost detail and concern. His staff is well trained. His security personnel is top notch and patrol the area, specially the parking lot very well. As a veteran DJ I appreciate a venue that not only cares about it's clients, but a venue that understands us DJs and our needs in accommodating us. I just had my Daughters XV in November. I booked my event since January, Mike was booked for the day I wanted, but I still booked for another day. Since day one he gave us the best attention and answered all of our questions. He definitely gave us a great deal on the venue which included the tables, chairs, linens, catering and clean up.Our event was on a Friday, Mike let us practice on Wednesday night and we set up on Thursday night. The day of the event everything was ready on time, including the catering( which by the way it was delicious- Herb Chicken). The security guys are awesome they made sure everyone got to their cars safe, they were also very friendly. All of our guess were asking about the Venues information. Had my wedding here a couple of years ago, the manager was super nice and super helpful. Very cheap price for rent and he recommended a person to help with the table decore. You are able to provide your own food and your own alcohol if you don't want to go with their catering. Which saved me thousands of dollars. Although outdated the hall is in pretty good shape and he provides security. Had a lot of fun! I do recomendable this place if you are on a budget. read more

The only reason I'm even giving this hall a star is because of the food and the price. I had my daughter's quinceanera here just recently and the owner Mike, made the experience for us horrible! He a deceiving man that tells you anything you want to hear while you are planning your event and on the day of he switches and doesn't follow through. When we were given the list of package deals it read includes linens, napkins, china, silverware AND Glassware, we didn't find out until the very day of our event that he actually does not provide glassware, which would have been fine if we knew in advance, but no, my sister had to leave the dinner and run to the store to buy cups! At the store the clerk asked her if she was having an event at the hall down the street because apparently this happens all the time! The night before our event we went to the hall to go practice, once there he was extremely disrespectful and rude to me. He was upset because he had to set more tables than he was planning to and decided to take his anger out on me. He made the mistake of not planning accordingly and I instead of being a good business man he was yelling at me. This banquet hall has been in his family for years but I suggest that he allows someone else to run it, he has no business or ability to cater to families that are trying to create lasting memories. I hope you continue searching and if you decide to go with this hall make sure you write every single detail in your contract, because he is a fast talker and shady person. read more

The hall looked so beautiful, everyone loved our catering from fiesta hall, and the ac felt so good all night. All of our friends an fam were asking us about the venue and catering and complimenting as well. The servers were also very attentive to my guests. We Were able to set up most of our items the night before and arrive a few hours earlier on the day of.We really owe a big thank you to Mike for being so easy to work with. Hello everyone, My husband & I just had our wedding reception at Smarts Banquet Hall on 9/20/14. From the moment we walked in we knew we wanted to have our reception here. Mike the owner was excellent, he went above and beyond for us. We had tons of questions and Mike had all the answers. He even went out of his way for us with accommodations and last minute request! I was recently a guest at my niece's sweet 16 and I am not even sure how to begin with this place.... Lets just start out by saying the AC does not work when more than 20 people show up, so if you have more than 20 guests good luck! The food that they served was cold. FYI the owner did not provide cups (he tells you that the day of event) so I had to run to Rite-Aid to purchase cups. Much to my surprise the store clerk stated she always has customers in the store because the owner doesn't let them know till the day of event that he will not be providing any cups or plates for cake (Luckily we had cupcakes). Another thing is that the floor is uneven but because of the high gloss you cant tell until you dancing on it and fill all the bumps. Oh yeah, the owner is so cheap he has turned off all hot water in the bldg, even in the bathroom. Unfortunately, my sister had to deal with this mans rudeness immediately after receiving his $$. He switched everything on her last minute and didn't even provide the color of tablecloths they had agreed on. I can go on & on but ultimately, if you are looking for a hall to rent, stay away!! His prices are low for a reason.... FYI, you will meet one Mike before the contract & $$$ and a completely different person afterwards. ONLY 1 STAR BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING LESS read more

I dont even know where to begin.... I regret booking this place and I would never recommend it to anyone. The only thing that made this place tolerable is the fact that I was under the influence, that's why I didn't realize immediately how horrible this place really is. However, the following day after the event , I began to receive countless of complaints from friends and family about how horrible the service staff was. For one the place was boiling hot and calls were made to the owner to request that the air be turned up, but according to him it was up to full capacity. Later I was told from one of my guest that he had been to that hall a couple of other times, and its been hot every time. I noticed that a lot of my guest left early, I suspect it was because of the heat...... Secondly, the bartender kept asking for tips and saying that her daughter was working hard too. (even though her daughter was not hired to bartend) Thirdly, the waiters were supposed to serve dinner from 5-7 and cut/pass out the cake but At 6:45 they were asking people that were still eating to empty their food into a paper plate because they need it to collect the plate. (very embarrassing) in addition, they were supposed to cut/pass out the cake but they left.... When I mentioned this to the owner, he said that it's normally done right after dinner. Which I'm kind of confused since they were collecting plates even before the dinner was over. They left didn't say a word ... They didn't even give us a chance to ask them to stay and cut the cake. Overall, the place needs to improve on their service staff........ This place has potential to be great but the people hired to do the work is what makes this place suck....Oh and the heat!! hope this helps someone before booking this or at least know what questions to ask... When I called the owner to tell him about my experiences, he said that they were having problems with the air conditioner that day, and that it was just to hot and too many people (150) but their capacity is 300. Also, he said that he's never had any complaints before, and offered to give me a discount on my next event.... I just laughed because I couldn't believe that he had the nerve to say that.... This is my wedding experience....... Oh, well I hope people really do their research before they book this place. Unfortunately, there was no reviews listed on yelp when I book it. read more

There is a note in the contract that states that if the renter (which is yourself) cancels the even that you do not get your money back. He canceled my event, I did not cancel the event. Me and my wife hosted our wedding reception at Smarts banquet hall. For the price, you can't beat it. We had a mostly d.I.y wedding. Our guests had nice things to say about the hall. Our Wedding was held on a very hot day in September, and the ac was working wonderfully. Mike is the owner, and he was very helpful. He let our family go in the night before to set up, and worked with our schedules. It was a big plus that we were able to take in our own food, drinks, and liquor. We also hired our own bartender, and it all worked out great. Over all we could not have chosen a better place. We feel we got the best for the value. This is seriously the best value in reception halls My daughter booked this place a year in advance for her 175-guest wedding reception. We then had to find a church close by for the wedding (our church only did small weddings) and she was lucky to find the First Christian Church of Whittier on Greenleaf Ave., in walking distance! From the start, the owner Mike was so easy to work with, patient, kind, easy to reach and so accomodating! The venue was roomy and the price included the full table setups in the colors of her choice, a GOOD chicken dinner with twice baked potatoes, salad, rice pilaf and beverage, areas for the bar, appetizers and cake (you provide), a good sound system, clean restrooms and plenty of room to dance! Oh, and they do all the clean-up and provide security as well! And the reception went until midnight. The staff was excellent; kind and efficient. Tip: They do not offer a vegetarian meal option, but the food portions are good sized, so vege heads can just skip the chicken. Or you can do what we did, which was to provide the few (10) vege meals and they served them to the pre-designated guests. When she first booked it, she had to pay in full for it in advance, which I was hesitant about, but she wasn't. After meeting with Mike, she had total confidence and trust in him to deliver and she was right on! He is one hard working man who pays attention to details and has some good people working for him. They let us come in as early as 11 am to place the centerpieces and a few other things, but there was not much decorating we had to do! They even had colored mood lighting if you wanted, and the iconic disco ball on the ceiling. Between Smarts Banquet Hall and The First Christian Church, June 27, 2015 was a magical day for my daughter. Both organizations were amazing... I love Whittier! read more

The food was great same caterer as Fiesta Hall but at half the price!! The AC was blasting and a great time was had by all. Several of our friends and family inquired on the pricing and were more then pleasantly pleased to hear how reasonable the hall is. We brought in our own bartender and alcohol which is always a plus.
