There's no other nursery like it in South Florida. Not only is it conveniently located East of 95 - but its also immaculate. It truly is a nursery you don't want to leave. Buyer Beware -- Smarty Plants on Dixie Hwy We purchased two plants from Smarty Plants on Saturday, August 15, 2026. When we got home, we discovered that both plants had worms eating them. Smarty Plants is closed Sunday and Monday, so I returned on Thursday, August 20, as soon as I was able, expecting to exchange the plants for healthy ones. They refused. Unfortunately, this was not my first disappointing experience with this business. About a year ago, I spent at least an hour with one of their staff members discussing plants that would be suitable for my west-facing balcony on the Intracoastal. I specifically wanted something fragrant and flowering, and their staff recommended a gardenia. When the gardenia failed to thrive, I returned with photos and was advised to purchase a water-measuring device. I bought the device, only to find that it didn't work. When I returned to the store, they refused to refund or exchange that item as well. I understand that plants can have problems, but I expect a plant nursery to stand behind the plants and products it sells--especially when a customer discovers a pest problem immediately after purchase. After multiple experiences like this, I can no longer recommend Smarty Plants. If you shop there, inspect your plants very carefully before leaving the store and don't assume that the store will make things right if you have a problem. read more

SmartyPlants is a large family owned nursery and garden center. There is a small parking lot and near by street parking. I visited during one of their Coco mini's, the 3rd Sunday of some months. There were several local vendors and a food truck. There were photo ops and tables where you could make friendship bracelets and terrariums. There were also local speakers. I especially enjoyed the presentation about natural skin care. There is a tremendous selection of tropical plants, trees, flowers, and bushes. Have bought many plants over the years here but brought a newly bought sick plant back today . I have 3 others of the same species all doing great in the same spot. The new one showed sickly after a week so took it back. They do not stand by their sales and blamed it on my care which is the same for all the others owned for months. They are not a friendly staff. I recently needed a gift, plus I wanted to support a local businesses. Luckily, Amelia's Smarty Plants helped make it happen. They graciously allowed me to purchase a gift card over the phone. They even hand wrote out a note for me and mailed the note and gift card to my friend. I bought 5 Peace Lilys in Sept. or Oct. They never bloomed with white flowers once the originals died. They were green and the seed pod was green and brown.When I bought them they strongly suggested I give them my email and phone # telling me that is how they keep track of purchases. I brought them back and they would not return as they said they were fine. They said they never return plants. I suggest using home depot. They warrant plants for 3 months. I left them there. They have a really incredible collection of plants here. Unfortunately, my wife could not find what she needed (a large office plant for her lobby), but we did buy a beautiful fox-tail fern. They also have a really beautiful cactus collection with variegated prickly pears and some other really cool ones! The care advice we got for the fox-tail was not great. For some reason it was recommended to water it every other day and keep in the shade. Those instructions resulted in it slowly dying until we did some research, moved it to the sun, and stopped watering so much. read more

I'm new to South Florida and love to garden and did a lot of plantscaping up North in the Boston area. Here in SoFlo, the climate and cycles of the year for gardening could not be more different. I've been to dozens of well managed nurseries and I have to say that Amelia's Smarty Plants is just unbelievable and amazing. Their plants are beautiful, well taken care of, and pruned to look fantastic. I've never seen so many different fiddle leaf figs in so many shapes and sizes, some huge! The plants are arranged from sunny to less sunny areas across the property, based on the shading of overhead sun/shade canopies. There's an indoor area with many great items, and an outdoor plant yard once you pass thru the building. Not to mention, they have an incredible selection of pots and they also have trays to match for them. I can't say enough good things about this nursery, and it is my goto place to buy plants. The only concern is that they don't take plant returns. I can see not taking plants back after a month or so and they've not been cared for well, but they may consider a 1 or 2 week window for plant returns. I mean sometimes a plant just doesn't look right when you get it home. read more

The rudest people at any shop! We were there Sunday and no help. We called Monday morning to place and order and no call back. Called on Tuesday and finally got someone who did not want to help. Provided plant name and she said she didn't know what it was. We read the name off the description of the plant (we took a picture) and told her where it is in the store. She refused to go and look. Also when we were there on Sunday multiple staff were not wearing masks. The worst service of any store...I would definitely go somewhere else for plants, pots etc. read more
