Yummiest most flavorful steak taco ever. Tried Smash Box for the first time last night at Highland Brewing. Very impressed.

Amazing. Went last night at Highland brewing. The steak taco is loaded with flavor. Yummy, saucy food that you can eat with your hands. The mess is worth it. I love that these food trucks are pairing up with breweries. Such a good date night.

I ordered the chick'n and waffles situation and the wife got the burger. We also shared the fried green tomatoes and Brussels sprouts. Man... those Brussels sprouts were on another level! Finished everything off with the cheesecake and a blueberry jasmine kombucha. Food, atmosphere and service were all on point. Definitely one of the better vegan spots I've visited and I will be back whenever I'm in Asheville. Now my only complaint... why don't we have one of these joints in the Queen City?! The Mexican-inspired fusion dishes were incredibly tasty, with generous portions that left us full and happy. The fried "chicken" burrito was so tasty and got a spicy punch topped with generous slices of avocado. The black beans were well season. The gyro was my favorite--it was packed with flavor and surprisingly satisfying. Ashville being Asheville offered draft beers even at a cafe!! :) I also appreciated that the entire restaurant is vegetarian, making it easy to order anything on the menu. Just keep in mind that it's a self-service setup, so you bus your own table and grab your own utensils and to-go boxes. You order at the counter and look a table to enjoy your meal. They also sell HUGE chocolate chip cookies but I was too full for dessert.

My takeout was ready on time. While the falafel roll still might have been better fresh, I wanted something that I could plausibly eat several hours later on a mountain without a ton of restaurants nearby, and that choice worked out well. Many falafel rolls come with add-ons that I don't like, but the pickled turnip offering here was both flavorful and colorful. I also got their fries, drizzles with tahini and parsley, which is a good way to eat fries. A case of baked goods and a small market section of canned items were also available. There was certainly space to eat inside or out for someone without my travel schedule. It's also notable that in addition to the usual falafel, they offer ample vegan options as befits the Asheville community, including a house seitan and some other vegetable and fake meat options. I was happy with what I got, but the choice is always appreciated.

The flavors were an absolutely beautiful Middle Eastern combo, and taking it Suzy's Way added a slight kick to the flavor. The pita was properly warmed as well. Overall, this is where to go if you've got a seriously empty stomach and are craving Middle Eastern cuisine.

It was highly regarded before that, and offers to make many of its menu items vegan. I was a tad disappointed that the bar promised some non-alcoholic hop water options but didn't seem to have any in stock, which may relate to the storm as well. This food truck, however, delivered the goods. It is not a speedy process, and when I tried visiting before they sold out of food before the end of the day so I came early this time. They give you a buzzer so you can wander around and order drinks. When my tofu arrived, it was mouthwatering. The amount of rice was quite large, but this was some aromatic rice, and the tofu itself tasted like high quality stuff and was bathed in an herbal, spicy flavor that I imagine is about as close to Thailand as you could get in Asheville. It was a lot of money for a modestly sized disposable bowl of food, but the quality merited a visit. I doubt I could have found myself eating anything more delicious. And yet, their other menu options remained on my mind.

I was starving and saw their booth and a chalkboard of menu options I've never tried or heard of before. I approached and when asked what I would like, I was honest that I was unfamiliar with their cuisine but I trusted them. They asked how I wanted it and I said "how you would eat it! But I was saddened that I was only able to get their Za'aatar once or twice a week and had to travel to multiple spots around the city to a variety of markets and at such limited hours. It is with all of the joy in my heart to support Habibi Village at their brick-and-mortar location as they have grown to a full time spot. Their owner absolutely POURS his soul and spirit into this business and into every meal he serves the community. Plenty of restaurant owners love what they do and love their patrons but this owner stands above and beyond when it comes to passion. This gentleman cares about his food and his patrons on a deep and genuine level that you feel and taste. I clearly can't praise Habibi Village enough. Thank you for what you do for our community and our bellies!

I had heard of it from Doc Brown, of Doc Brown's BBQ food truck fame. He spent much time describing just how amazing this little taco truck in front of the Dollar General super market was. After working a wedding, I just happened to drive by the place and decided to stop in. There's a hand written menu outside of the little trailer, a couple of chairs, and an umbrella to keep you shaded while you order and eat. I decided on 3 tacos, al pastor, carne asada, and lengua (sup, I like tongue). At $2 a pop the price is right! They had a couple of other items as well, including a spiced pork in flour tortilla and something that sounded a lot like a mexican huarache, but was different and called a tlacoyo.... which I'm not even going to try to pronounce. My order was taken by what I assume was the mother of the family that operates this lovely little spot. My tacos were up super quickly. I can't say for certain... but I think that the tortillas are hand made. Either there, or somewhere close by. They were ultra fresh, and had that slightly imperfect edge. The tacos were served with roasted onion, grilled napoles, and their red and green hot sauces, which both packed a spicy punch. The carne asada was pretty good. Not the explosion of awesome I was hoping for... I was anxious. I wanted this place to kick ass. Looking at my other two tacos I was hesitant to try them. What if they weren't as good as I was hoping for? I bit into the lengua taco and my fears subsided. This is fucking great I thought to myself. Thank goodness. I consumed it with voracious zeal. The Al Pastor was next and the best of the three. The PERFECT balance of spices, carmelization, and just a hint of pineapple. Wow. For 6 bucks this might be the best deal in town. The hours are a bit whacky, I was told they're open Thursday - Sunday from 6 til 11. I'm going to make it a point to be a regular here.
