Very disappointing. Hair in food. I ordered the veggie tostada while the they were at Highland. Veggies consisted of poorly cooked carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower. Cheese was an extremely light sprinkling, barely there. After getting halfway through I found a hair stuck in the bean mixture. The food truck scene in Asheville continues to grow and amaze. I devoured some truly awesome tacos the other day at El Querubin II. The protein here (see pic) is huitlacoche, (pronounced wheat-la-KOH-cheh), also known as corn smut or Mexican Truffle. To be blunt, this is a fungus that grows on corn. And while I'll admit the description is a tad less than appetizing, this stuff has been treasured for centuries, all the way back to the Aztecs. I'm telling you peeps, it works. Grilled to perfection, then bolstered by pico, fresh lime, cilantro and a mildly pungent queso fresco, the huitlacoche provides an earthy depth of flavor and a satisfying mouthfeel. I'm not sure what's in that salsa, exactly, but it's stinkin' good. And my oh my, those warm, handmade corn tortillas are everything. You just couldn't get any more fresh. The corn and the corn smut are brought back together in a triumphant family reunion, singing a glorious harmonic refrain before being silenced by my very happy belly. El Querubin translates "The Cherub." Hey, no argument here. read more

I ordered a dish called hatahambre or something similar. It was described as having pollo pastor, chorizo, bacon, pork sausage... wow was I in for a surprise. At first the dish looked great, but as I dug in I found hotdogs... wtf?! ...and shopped up deli meat; god knows what... gross. I was concerned that maybe I misread it and this was their famous hotdog and bologna (authentic cultural cuisine) dish. I went iut and read it over and just felt duped, tricked, taken for. This food truck was amazing! We had the enchiladas and the pineapple fajitas and were not disappointed! The portions were generous and delicious after a day of hiking. Criminally overpriced lackluster food served up with a pretentious attitude. Perhaps others have had better luck with other menu items, but the fajitas were a joke. The food wasn't bad, it was just very, very generic...... like, "every single Mexican restaurant you've ever been to" generic. But, underwhelming food aside, my main complaint concerns the price compared to what you get, and the attitude served up with the food. First, if you react to my simply request for flour tortillas instead corn by telling me "no, they come with corn tortillas", I'm going to think you're a pretentious douche and walk away. Unfortunately, this time I too hungry and had no other food options available so walking away was not an option. I wish I had taken a photo of the food because it's hard to describe just how little food you get for $12. It was served on one of those small styrofoam plates that are divided into three sections. There was barely enough chicken and veggies to fill two of three greasy corn tortillas they forced on me. The rice and beans that accompanied it could have been consumed with no more than 2 or 3 bites each. I also got an order of nachos that consisted of nothing more than a drizzle of canned cheese sauce and a few jalapeños dumped onto a pile of store bought chip. (I asked for no jalapeños and half expected to hear them say "no, that's the way it comes.) This side "dish" somehow costs $6. So, to sum up.... I paid over $20 (because somehow you feel guilty not leaving a tip at a food truck...) for a laughable small portion of lackluster food served up with a pretentious douche-y attitude.
