This cool spot is located in Bettendorf in a corner strip mall location. They've got counter service along with dining room space. It's decked out with live plants, some comfortable booths and some tables. It's an attractive space with a good view of the kitchen. It's a solid little space. We ordered the house salad, which is tossed in buttermilk ranch dressing and it's super delicious. Such a great salad to start with before the pizzas. It's large enough for 3 people to share, as there were 2 of us and we had some left over to take home. Brian Olsen has pizza on lock! He is a master at his craft. These pizzas have an amazing flavor, terrific crust and quality ingredients. They serve burgers and a chicken sandwiche, too! We ordered 3 different pizzas... one with garlic cream sauce and green peppers, one with pepperoni, sausage & red peppers and another specialty pizza with the hot honey & arugula with pepperoni and Calabrian chili's. Man, that was some good Za!! Claire was our server and she was terrific, too! Clearing dirty plates, refreshing silverware and beverages. Terrific attitude! All in all, Bettendorf has an amazing pizza restaurant that the locals should be grateful for in their own neighborhood! And, Smash serves beer, wine, and cocktails, too. I wish I lived closer. I'd become a regular and dine in often! Whenever I'm back in town, I'll be sure to stop by to try some different specialty pies, like the elote pie. That one sounded really good! So did the za with wild mushroom & kale!! Maybe one day Smash will create a taco pizza to compete with Happy Joe's, rip Joe Whitey. But, seriously, there is no comparison between the two. We live in Las Vegas so pizza is not difficult to find and there is a lot of great pies. Smash is outstanding. Our daughter and son-in-law brought us there and we ordered the Bee Sting. This is one of the best Sicilian pizza's I've every had. The dough was thick and airy and the toppings were fresh and the sauce was perfectly perfect. Our other daughter and son-in-law joined us and they tried a thin crust pizza, so I couldn't help myself...and it was also excellent. And of course we started with a wonderfully fresh salad. Located in central Bettendorf, off of Devils's Glen Rd there is a shared parking lot available. Seating is limited, a few seats at the bar are available. I am a true Quad City Pizza Lover... so I had to dig into the reviews to see if straying would be worth it. Overall the food came out quick and was delicious. This is thin crust (but not cracker) pizza. We ordered a pepperoni and The Bianco. The pepp was delicious! The Bianco was really good, but it felt like it was missing something (maybe red pepper flakes?). Our server was attentive and friendly. The dining area is very small and it got very loud - at one point our table couldn't even hear each other speak. Overall it was still a good experience. The ambiance was cool and the space was large. We waited maybe 10 min it was before getting a table. The customer service was good and attentive. We started with the bread plate and added burrata. The burrata was not seasoned so it felt like we were just eating cheese which was weird because I love cheese and know the different flavors. We only had three well portioned sizes of the garlic buttered bread which I wish we had more because that was the best part of the bread plate. The half and half pizza was a plus. I'm happy they allowed us to do that. The kale and mushroom was tasty but again it liked something. Maybe spice, more herbs? It was overly greasy since they deep fry the kale. We ordered a large pizza half mushroom half sausage to pick up. I was looking forward to this because all our friends said it was the best pizza they've ever had in Bettendorf. It was so salty. I could hardly eat it. I can still taste the salt in my mouth 1/2 hour after I'm finished. my husband likes pizza and he likes salty things. He didn't like this pizza and he didn't like how salty it was. It was also overcooked and a little too brown around the edges . I had to search hard to find any mozzarella cheese. I think it was on there but very little. I would give it a D- It also cost around $20 for this one pizza which is in the high price range. We bought gift cards to smash pizza for some of our friends this year for Christmas and I'm feeling guilty that we're going to ruin their day once they use the cards. read more

While visiting from out of town, a friend and I stopped into Smash for a sit-down dinner... and let me just tell you, I wish I lived in the QC area just for this!! All the food was amazing. The house salad was unique, deliciously seasoned, and super fresh. I loved the shaved radishes and the fact that it came dressed. Our pizza was also incredible - we opted for half Biano/half Alla Vodka and were equally impressed. The fried kale on the Alla Vodka was so good!! I struggled with this rating and decided on 4 stars because we had a very weird service experience. When we walked in, we were ignored by the hostess for a good 5-6 minutes, and it was very unclear what the seating situation was. I'll start by saying Chef Brian is extremely talented BEYOND pizza and have enjoyed his food at restaurants and catered events for years. I've been to Smash Pizza several times since they opened and have enjoyed everything from the salads to the various pizzas and appetizers. Recently I found THE PIZZA CRUST OF MY DREAMS: the Sicilian. See picture but basically it has ruined every pizza I've had elsewhere. I'm not even a crust gal and this is to die for - I don't waste a crumb. All the pizzas flavors have unique and inventive taste but I'm particularly fond of the kale and mushroom. I don't even like mushrooms on pizza - it's that good. For those that complain (I've heard) about the fact its on a strip mall and is small inside: you know how you keep a new restaurant operational and focus resources on the quality of the food? -- keep it small and simple. Besides that I LIKE the space inside. It's not a place for a large group unless you go at an off hour. Last I checked they do not do reservations. I came here with my brother to order take out and there were only a couple of people in front of us, but by the time we left there was a line out the door. We waited awhile before anyone even acknowledged us, which was a bit weird, but all of the staff was running around taking orders, getting food, and making drinks. We finally ordered and paid for our salad and pizza and were told about 50 minutes. When we got the pizza it looked SO good! We got the meatball & ricotta Sicilian style pizza along with the chopped salad (they put all the toppings on the side, which was nice!). The crust was crunchy and fluffy and light. The sauce was tangy, hearty, and melded with the crust. The meatballs were cut up into small pieces and blended well with the creaminess of the ricotta. After eating 2.5 pieces, I decided 2 was the right amount. The salad was great - the dressing was light, but full of flavor and didn't feel too oily. Ok! There is a reason you cannot find a parking spot here (although the parking lot is super small ) The pizza is outstanding - worth the wait. We've been 2 times so far, our service has always been wonderful. It seems that their approach is to assign a server to each table, but the rest of the service staff are constantly helping each other. Which is so nice to see! Everyone is friendly, easy to chat with, and helpful with any menu questions. We started with the bread plate, which omg, so so good! It came with a butter spread that was so flavorful and unique. They have two different types of pizza - New York style (thinner crust) and Sicilian (thicker, more Detroit style?) - both are amazing. We've dined in both times, but I have to assume the pizza is just as good picking up and taking it home. The vibes are fun inside, with some kitschy decor, I also love the window to the kitchen so you can peek in on all the work in the back. The sheer talent that goes into the bread alone is honestly shocking. I struggled to write this review because it did not seem like we had the same experience as others. This is based off of two orders in the same night, one part of the family ordered To go and half the family dined in. The to go, good experience, very very busy, hard to park to get the food, but nice and hot and ready to go. The at home family raves about the food, and it was not salty at all. The in house dining, we missed the major rush going a hour later then pick up. It was busy but did not wait more then 5 minutes at the most. They turn tables over quickly. The food: we got the bread plate and it was amazing. I was taken back by the saltiness of the garlic butter since I don't usually equate bread and butter with salt. We also ordered the elote pizza. It was a miss, I was expecting elote on a crust and it was a cheese pizza with "some" corn and some sauce on it. Don't get me wrong, it was a fine pizza- but that was it- just fine. The pizza was also very salty, I am wondering if it is the dough instead of the toppings. I get that also serving drinks that you make more money by having the food "slightly" salty to encourage more consumption, but our meal was too the extreme. It was interesting that the other pizza did not suffer from the over abundance of salt as the bread plate and elote pizza had. We noticed the quirks with service at the tables around us, but nothing for us. It's a interesting space, but it's not a place I would recommend with small children or children under 12. There is really nothing on the menu for smaller kids, which is fine for us- our 1 year old and 5 year old eat whatever we eat but I could see where this would be a problem for other families.
