Been here 3 times in the past 3 months & twice we ate in. There is always a line when we go (went twice for lunch & once for dinner). They could have more than 1 person putting the orders in when they are busy. The burgers are really good & made fresh. They also have a turkey burger & chicken if you don't want beef. You can make your own burger or you can get specialty burgers. I LOVE their smash fries. My husband had their regular fries and he said they were salty. When you dine in, they have different types of sauce for you to dip your fries in. They are all good. The other thing I like is when you are done with your meal, they will have somebody pick up your tray. That is great customer service! We were going to the one on Route 3 in Clifton since they opened...and when this one opened up... we've made this our GO TO spot. We've tried a bunch of things on the menu.... from smash burger... to chicken burgers.. to kids meals.. to veggie frites, sweet potatoe fries.. regular fries... Salalds.. shakes... You name it.. Good place to grab a quick affordable meal. Their crispy chicken is juicy and cooked just right. I have had their sweet potato and smash fries. The smash fries are deliciously they are string fries tossed in olive oil and seasoning. Overall this chain is definitely better than most of the chain options around. read more

It was our first time trying Smashburger and the experience was not pleasant. May be it was the quality of food which did not go well with our taste. I ordered Spicy Jalapeno Baja (chicken) and I could not take another bite. The chicken was soaked in oil and the bun didn't taste good either. The fries were thinnest fries I had seen - but nothing great about it either. Same with my husband order - it was nothing extra ordinary! For the same price - habit burger is great! Very greasy burgers. Dripping wet with oil doesn't always mean juicy. Chicken sandwich had a weird flavor so I wouldn't order it again. French fries...I don't get everyone's infatuation with skinny fries, they dont retain any heat. It's not horrible, well other than the chicken sandwich, but it's nothing special at all. I've given them three tries, hoping for....well I just didn't want to make a u-turn on 17, so I guess I'm hoping to be less lazy and go to a better burger place. As always give them a try. Just ok. I ordered the All American Burger combo, service was polite and quick, food came out quick. Fires, bacon, and fried onions were great. But the actual burger patty and bun were quite dry. I understand it has to be well done, but for a business the emphasizes freshness and quality, it could be much better. I had the buffalo grilled chicken burger with fries. The burger was decent- I've had better. The chicken was extremely thin, not really what I was expecting. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. My son ordered a burger. He was happy with his meal. I was very disappointed. The chicken was like a processed, pressed into shape and. almost inedible. It had some sort of gelatin coating, and I couldn't spread the chicken apart. Yuk! OK...So my wife and my 2 month old son had lunch here today. We were greeted with a booming welcome from Manager Kevin from the other side of the place and right away I was on my toes to observe the service. First of all, the interaction at the counter with Kevin was active, animated and positive. He almost finished our sentences as we ordered as he knows his product. He asked us how often we come to the location and if we have ever been there and was happy when we said we knew it pretty well. I am not a small guy and when he asked me if I wanted a "big one" and I responded with a "what do you think?" he knew humor and shared a smile as he shares a love of BBQ Bacon Burgers with Fried Egg with me. He comped our drinks and since the place was slow for the moment came over and spoke highly of our young son and even gave us a free side for our next visit. Kevin showed he cared for his product and how people received it. I would go back just for HIS service. Besides the fact that the food was fresh and delicious. OK so this is Smashburger and since we all know what it is, what they sell, how it taste, what the prices are and all that good stuff let's get to basics. Before we get to that, my choice is mushroom swiss with bacon and Avacodo and I add the hit sauce they have in the bottle. I did notice they do not carry Heinz Ketchup boo. Okay the place is long narrow. They have two registers but seems like they prefer to use one. Never had a problem with person taking my order. Depending on the time the line can get long. Most times the tables are dirty so just ask for them to clean it, should not have to but it happens. Not many booths, mostly tables. If you sit in the tall chairs by the line which forms in front of the register be ready for strangers to stare at you eat, overhear your conversation or just stare at you. They are literally 1 foot from you while eating but if that's all the tables they have available your stuck with it or order to go. Bathrooms, floors and soda machines can use some cleanup detail or an occasional wipe down. Also the forks, toothpicks, knives could use a stock check as well. Even when eating in the place I request the to go utilities to many people touch the stuff and it's just a peeve of mine. I do want to try the bean burger just keep forgetting. TIP, when asking for a table to be cleaned tell them paper towel and some spray like 409, Windex or something, avoid the rag they use to clean every table over and over with same water and dirty rag that gets wrung out over and over. Your paying for service, your the customer ask politely. Never a food problem just think it can use more attention to cleaning, sweeping, mopping etc. Not disgusting but with some time it can happen. read more

I love Smashburger, but I will never eat at this one again after what they put me through. I have a serious gluten allergy, and while the Morris Plains Smashburger has always perfectly accommodated my needs, this location has given me trouble on two separate occasions. Months ago, I ordered a burger with a gluten free bun and they gave me a regular bun. Luckily I was dining in, so I could point out the mistake and get a safe burger. Just yesterday however, I ordered the same thing to go, and once again, they gave me a regular wheat bun. I know they did because I was up vomiting lettuce and beef into the toilet at midnight. This is unacceptable from a restaurant that offers gluten free options, and I will not be coming back. read more

I usually go to the Smashburger on Rt 3 in Clifton but decided to try this location instead. Not happy. Floors were dirty even though place wasn't busy. My order was to go. The Baja Burger wad in a plastic container but they put the container sideways in the bag. My burger was a mess by the time I ate it. There was also a few morsels of bacon on my burger which I didn't ask for. Haystack was extremely greasy not crisp like they should be. And there were French fries in my haystack! Nice surprise but I didn't want French fries. All in all I will not be back to his location. read more
