It seems like a pizza pasta place that charges what they charge for their food that they could afford to have parmesan shakers for every table. I absolutely love th pizza here. I also love grated parmesan on my pizza. They have 1 maybe 2 shakers for the entire restaurant. If you go to the counter and ask for grated they'll give you shredded. Yes both are parmesan but it's different. Also sometimes I come in here, at least 1 time a week but usually 2-3, it seems like they brewed tea is watered down like they've used the tea bag's a second time. With that said..... if those are my only 2 complaints the place is going great. Absolutely love smashing tomato. Be back in a few days!!!! read more

TLDR - workers were more interested in gossiping with each other than focusing on their job and the customers. Let me start by saying I've been coming to Smashing Tomato since they opened. For several years mgmt joked that they should put a plaque on one of the booths since me and my friends frequented there several times every week. A few years back Smashing Tomato changed their supplier for their dough and it changed the style of pizza / sheet bread. When that happened I fell off as a consistent customer. I have since moved away but come back to town often to visit family. Last night I decided to give Smashing Tomato another have and while the food was good the experience I had because of their employees would stop me from returning. I placed a call ahead to go order for 3 items; 1 pizza and 2 orders for sheet bread. When I arrived I noted there was already food boxes on the counter. A worker was quick to take my order name and my money and then they walked away. I took this to mean my food was not ready yet and I proceeded to wait in the to go area. During this time I observed all 7 employees staring near the oven gossiping and paying the "not me" game where someone put theirs finger on their nose if they didn't want to do something. They were loudly gossiping about previous workers and one of them had a gnarly cough that was quite persistent. I felt it was unnecessary to have that many workers crowding the oven; particularly when atleast one of them was sick and none of them were actually preparing food or helping customers and were instead talking negatively in the company or other employees of the company. Eventually one of them approached me after I waited about 10-15 min and again asked for my name. I again repeated my name for the worker to go "oh it's here" and point to 2 boxes that had been on the counter since before I walked in. I clarified I should have 3 boxes for my order and expressed my confusion that I had been sitting waiting 10-15 min on food that was ready prior to me arriving and paying. The worker offered no apology but stated that someone had decided to put 2 of the orders inside 1 box thus only seeing 2 boxes not 3. Quite disappointed in this experience and while the food was good it was not worth the dissatisfaction I felt overall. read more

The premise here appears to be an accessible Neapolitan style pizza. It's casual, and the pizzas are on the smaller side (though more filling than they look). They have some nice combination deals, though I will say my phone and Toasttab could not figure out how to work together for some reason so I had to order on a computer. Not sure whether the issue with being unable to select a pizza is on my end or theirs. Anyway, this is a style of pizza that is best eaten fresh, and while it took me a tad longer than I'd hoped to get there, my pizza boxes were still steaming. I ate a couple of slices quickly before relocating, and even five minutes later, the difference was noticeable. Either eat there or eat quick if you want the full experience. The menu didn't 100% line up with what I would want; some pizza places do go out of their way to offer more in the way of vegetarian/vegan or GF, but this wasn't such a place. The vegetable-based special I got had sundried tomatoes, marinated garlic, and mushrooms on it, which was an indulgent and tasty combination. My arugula pizza delivered the freshness I desired. The salad I got came with some bread on the side, which arguably defeats the point of ordering a salad but it was tasty bread. Overall, it satisfied my urge for Neapolitan style pizza, and I'll likely return. read more

This is a highly underrated pizza in Lexington. Since it's by the mall it is somewhat hidden from the public. However, once you're there they make sure you don't forget who they are. They have a cheesy selection of Neapolitan style pizzas (my favorite style) which come in a quick service delivery system with limited wait times. Had a lovely lunch combo from here. I got a 6 inch pizza with balsamic sausage pesto and some other things. It has really nice flavor and felt pretty light for pizza. I am paired it with a tomato basil soup. The soup comes with a lovely toasted and herbed slice of bread. I did not expect the soup to be so textured. It was thick and creamy with tomato and cheese in it. I didn't think that the cheese was necessary, but it was the best tomato soup I've ever had. The pizza wasn't the worst I've had, but also not the best. The crust was a little limp, but the sauce had good flavor. Better than average big chain pizza, like domino's and papa john's. Prices were fair. Restaurant also has a selection of other pizzas, salads, pasta, and flatbread sandwiches. This was a delivery order, so having food in house may make a big difference. I really enjoyed my first visit to Smashing Tomato recently. I had never been before, for some reason I thought it was a chain, but it's a good old local pizza place owned by the same group as Bella Notte. I ordered a Caesar salad, pepperoni pizza, Quattro pizza and an order of lasagna. I would definitely get the lasagna again, the tomato sauce they use is amazing. Everything was good. The pizzas can get a little pricey when you get additional toppings, though. I'll be back. I'm not even a big pizza person, but I enjoyed it. I have been very pleased with the quality of restaurants in Lexington. Every time I visit, I seem to find a new gem that I wish we had back in AL. This place is one of those franchisees that I know would do well basically in any larger city market, but it seems to do well in the Lexington market. For a lunch after Christmas and before New Years, I got the romagna calzone, with plenty of meat and cheese. It delivered on my expectations for a wood fired calzone and it melded well with the olive oil for dipping. It had slightly too much dough on the ends, so I would have liked a little more meat and cheese stuffed into the calzone, but it was very smooth and delicious dough. Between that and the sheet music bread, I was fully carbed up by time I was finished! I cannot wait to return here!
