    Single Classic Cheese Burger
    Seby I.

Andrea prepared my single cheeseburger and Johan took my order. This morning I had a meager breakfast before dashing off to the Union Square Greenmarket. As it was nearing lunch hour, I decided that a quick burger at one of my special places in the area would fit the bill. It did as I ate slowly.

This was a pretty good burger and definitely affordable for the size. I got a double with fries, definitely filling. There was a bit of a line, but it moved super quick and the fries were super fresh. I like the seasoning on them, but there were some that were overly seasoned and a bit tough to eat. I'd return! First time but definitely not the last.

We went here last weekend after wanting to grab a quick bite. We ate our hamburgers and fries outside Union Square Park and I forgot to take pictures of our food. Smashy is a small establishment with an even smaller menu. However, we were totally fine with it because we don't mind coming back next time. The hamburgers and fries were crisp, cooked well when the cook smashed the burgers at the end with the onions just the right taste where it melts in your mouth. We ordered two cokes in the glass bottles - the day itself felt like a nostalgic Summer eat at the park. I thought it was interesting and cool to see a camera in Smashy by the condiments, of their location on Budapest. Neat idea, at the other side of the world. If you register for rewards, you receive a Smashy sticker, available by the cashier. All in all, quick and good service, all payments accepted. No sitting inside, you can stand to eat or find some spots outside to enjoy your Smashy meal.

It's ok. Small menu. Fast food burger and fries. Nothing wows me. They smash the patty thin. Good flavor. But the whole burger is very messy. Service is quick. You order and get the food right away. They premade everything. Fries were cold. It's very hot inside due to open kitchen. You can stand and eat by the bar table. Price is equivalent of the size you get. It's small portion for burger and fries.

I had to run some errands and passed this small burger shop that stood out to me. It was not hard to miss and cannot be missed with the whole restaurant painted blue. It was very blue outside between regular buildings nearby. It also said American Flavor, European Soul on the window so it got me hooked to try out their burgers. The kitchen staff were busy cooking beef patties and the whole restaurant was very tight and long. Luckily it was not crowded and only had 3 more customers inside standing and eating their food. There were no tables and chairs. There was only a counter with ketchup and napkins. I placed my order with the cashier and surprisingly enough, I did not have to wait for my order to be prepared! I was shocked! I purchased a double beef patty cheeseburger along with fries and the cashier immediately gave me the bag that was next to her on the counter. There were a couple of bags on the counter piled next to each other. I think they prepared the orders and bag them for incoming orders. I never experienced this in my life before so it was very shocking and convenient at the same time to experience the prompt and fast service at Smashy. It was so fast that I got out in no time. This burger joint really reminded me of other burger joints like 7th Street with the affordable prices of a single and double patty burger. The single patty was at $5.99 and double was at $7.99. The fries were $2.99! To my amazement, the burger was still very warmed when I took a bite after my long commute back to my office from the rainy, cold weather. The fries were still standing pretty good after that long commute on the train to my job from Union Square to City Hall. The burger was very cheesy and cooked well done in a good way that did not dry out the beef patties. Beef patties were very tender and juicy. The melted cheese made it even more juicier. The bun was very soft and did not require teeth action. The cashier also offered to put house sauce on the burger so with the sauce and cheese made the burger very good with every bite. The fries were seasoned with this red powder that got your hands dirty. It was worth it though! The fries were very good with just the seasoning powder alone. I did not need any ketchup to go with it. Smashy gave a lot of fries so I was very full from it. I finished every fry. I will definitely be coming here again when I pass by Smashy. It was a fast and good bite to combat my hunger. The fast service and attentiveness just blew me away so I'm definitely passing by this place for lunch.

Stopped by here after my dentist appointment since it was so close. I always saw this place on social media so finally got the chance to try it. For this price, you can't beat the burger that you're getting. Comes in a nice potato bun and it's an enjoyable treat. When I ordered, I got my burger right away. I guess everything is made beforehand and they keep it under heating lamps. I do wish the temperature of my burger was warmer but once again, at this price point, you can't really go wrong I'll be back again

Nice casual spot for a quick bite. There isn't any room for seating, only bar standing. The burgers are kept warm under a lamp before ordering, so they come out pretty quick. I do think they are made pretty soon before though as mine didn't taste stale or anything. Got my burger with the house sauce. Super saucy, flavorful, and a nice bite.

For smash burger Smashy serves a great one that doesn't break the bank. Service is fast.

Coming here all I was expecting was a regular smash burger however it was the not the case. Food: Compared to other Smash burger tasting I would say this one was different, How So? Well this is somehow more saucy and also the taste of cheese is more dominant, making everything melt in my mouth. The fries were just great, with great seasoning and texture. (Both burgers and fries were slightly not as warm as they should be) Service: Well it was pretty quick especially how there was a line and people waiting as well so I felt happy getting my food that quick. Ambiance: There are no seatings so you will probably be eating standing up or can walk to Union Square and sit there. (I would probably add some Bar stool to offer some comfort to some guests).

This is just a really good, somewhat unique burger. The smashburger concept has in many senses been overdone, you find them pretty much everywhere now, offering a relatively squashed and small burger for exorbitant prices. The taste blends together after a while. However, smashy burger managed to surpass my usually low expectations for smash burgers significantly. Apparently it's a franchise based in Hungary - and this is their only US location. Quite frankly, I should have expected it to be good, because it they bothered to bring it all over from Hungary to the USA - it's gonna be pretty good. First, price point is reasonable. Paid $6 for a double burger. That's not bad at all, especially in Manhattan (Union Square). Second, it avoids the problem many smash burgers have (being too dry). I ordered it "house-style", which comes with this difficult to identify orange sauce. It was moist and added significant creaminess and flavor without being overwhelming (common in many US restaurants). I can't exactly call this health food, but it wasn't worse for you then it needed to be. Third, service was just comically fast. You order the burger, it comes out pretty much instantly. Not sure you can ask for more from a burger place. Just as a heads-up, there's no real seating or tables in or anywhere near the restaurant, so I'm not actually sure how you're supposed to eat the french fries (you can just take the burger and eat it any way you want - you won't be disappointed!) Anyways, I had a great time and will definitely get this again if I'm in Union Square again.

Delicious smash burgers, super fast service! Can definitely eat 2 burgers given the size. Love the fries too! Great place to stop by when you need something quick and are craving burgers

Two cheese burgers and fries is a good meal portion

Usually when I eat smash burgers like this I feel like crap but I think this place uses quality beef because I was fine after eating 1.5 burgers. I ordered two cheese burgers as I thought they would be small. The burgers are a good size. One burger with fries is a good sized snack of a meal. The cheeses was nice and gooey and melted. The meat had some crispy bits to it as well that added to texture. From the first bite I was getting a regular Mac cheeseburger. But as I kept eating it was giving more cheesy beefy flavors. I ordered on uber eats so I can't say much about the service but it came fairly fast.

Great burger. Fast efficient service. Love the pricing too a double and fries for $11 can't beat that for the quality. Really good, juicy burger. Fries were very crispy.

We were thrilled to find two seats at the end of the bar when we arrived. As luck would have it, the two gentlemen next to us eventually left, allowing us to slide over and enjoy an even better view of the TV for the rest of the game. I started with a Tito's and club soda, but unfortunately, something seemed off--perhaps the club soda was flat. The drink just wasn't good. To their credit, the bartender took it back without hesitation and was very accommodating. I then ordered a Negroni after the woman sitting next to us highly recommended it. I don't usually drink gin, but this cocktail was absolutely delicious and changed my mind. Since we were there for several hours, we shared an order of zucchini and eggplant chips and happily snacked on them throughout the game. The atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming, with a nice mix of ages and people enjoying the evening. We made sure to leave our bartender a generous tip since we occupied our seats for the entire game. Even though the Knicks didn't pull out a win that night, we certainly didn't leave defeated. I'd happily return for another game, cocktail, and fun evening out. And maybe even get dinner there. Little did I know there was another big room in the ack once you past the restrooms. They were having a thriving business there!

Reservations open 2 weeks in advance around 10am and they go super fest so I recommend you try for the day you need as for me I could only have gotten brunch on a Sunday. Those people spam the crap out of their buttons for the dinner spots and when I went I can see why. The place is brimming with old school New York charm and it's completely overwhelmingly beautiful and has an old jazzy vibe to it. It's large and spacious and they sat us in the middle of the entire restaurant. (I had a group of 6) The vibe was so good you don't really want to leave and they also don't really kick you out. I think we were the last ones to exit for brunch but they were so nice they didn't kick us out. Their espresso martinis are ok. It wasn't as amazing as a regular cocktail bar but it is just ok. We started off with a shrimp cocktail, smoked whitefish Caesar salad and the two plates of truffle monkey bread which was soooo good. I really enjoyed this as it's the main reason we came here. It's almost like a honey dinner roll with truffle. We got everything next which some people got their own and some shared. Some people got their own American breakfast platter which was some overdone eggs and a meat with gigantic toast and if you only order scrambled eggs it comes in a bowl but I would much rather order their classics like steak sandwich and the spicy shrimp was pretty good! Fries are top tier! I can see why people just come here for dinner. I would give it mostly 5 stars for the overall ambiance and environment and a few classics. I think their old fashioned is better than their espresso martinis though even though it looks so good in this type of setting! It's hard to get a reservation though so next time I'll need to try some new things if I score another!

The JRB burger comes on a house-ground patty (they grind in-house, and you can tell, loose texture, actual seasoning), caramelized onions cooked down all the way, not just softened, good cheese pull. Fried pickles on the side had a crisp cornmeal shell and stayed crunchy under the burger juices, which never happens. Buttermilk chicken salad was the surprise. Chicken actually brined, crust stayed on, greens weren't an afterthought. Only real knock: music was loud. Not sports-bar loud, more like the bartender's playlist got away from him. Fine at the bar, harder at a table if you want to talk. Room's got real bones. Reclaimed barn wood, old rail track as a foot rest, that big 45-star flag on the wall.
