It's a very small and run-down place with sketchy decor and 4 older Korean ladies that seem to provide acceptable, if not stellar service. I've been seeking alternatives to my regular place and decided to try out this one based on reviews, but going by the dip manicure provided, the lady was winging it. I watched her do a decent take-off, but then she started applying one of the maybe 20 colors they had total (lame), and she totally skipped the basecoat!!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I questioned her, the response: oh, we don't use basecoats. WTAF?[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She restarted the process, removing the colored powder, and I pictured a long ass time. She then dipped the whole nail in base coat vs 3/4th and I knew that was it. She didn't know poop. Got up and said here's $5 for the takeoff you added to the mani estimate, I'm out, of course she tried to argue that it was more and then from my expression just tabled that convo. I was going to pay $55 pre tip, I realized the takeoff service on its own alone is more, but good faith was $5 more before this shadiness, and this is the 3rd time I've tried them, not coming back. I keep trying Smile Nails but it is a hit or miss depending on the technician. I recently went in for a pedicure and no chip manicure. I've had Jennifer before and I was hoping that this time it would be better. Sadly it was not. The pedicure was mediocre at best. The pedicure was the quickest I have ever had which isn't always a positive. On to the manicure. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Again, making comments on how dry my skin is.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] No soaking to soften the cuticle and then really aggressive in pushing down the cuticle. I remember that she did this before. No real trim of the cuticle. The final result was think and bumpy polish. I was in and out in less than an hour. This is a treat for me and not an inexpensive one. I felt like I was in marathon as to how quickly she can get the customer in and out. Live and learn. I won't be going back. read more

I have been to this salon for a couple years, has a nice clean place with cute movies showing. There is always time for me but the past five months, I have had to ask the manicurist to stop hurting my toes and fingers due to over aggressive trimming, filing and cuticle cutting .Even if they are in a hurry, there is no reason for pain during a manicure. I was surprised to read here how many people experienced the staff chasing them down or berating them for tips. Personally I have never experienced that, not have I ever witnessed it. I went to the salon for over five years, and in the past year they have fired several of their extremely good employees and hired employees that are worthless. The new employees only stay a couple of months, and then leave due to the poor behavior of the owners. What used to be an outstanding salon has gone down the tubes quickly. I would not recommend going there. Plus they have a woman that is extremely elderly, and her hands shake terribly, and she's cutting your nails and trying to trim your cuticles. DO NOT GO HERE! I made an appointment for 2 gel manicures and when I showed up they told me they only had 1 scheduled. This has also happened to my mom and sister here! I was looking forward to get a no chip manicure based on the reviews. I've tried pretty much every nail salon around this area (I'm a no chip fan) and there's nothing special about Smile Nails. Don't get me wrong, the staff was really nice and polite, the place was clean and well kept, but the manicure was just meh....very basic. I also don't think their prices are cheap, they are about the same or higher than other nail salons in the area. I paid $40 + tip for a french no chip. An hour after getting my no chip I was trying clothes at the mall and noticed that two of my nails were already chipping. This has NEVER happened to me before, I went back the same day and they fixed. But now I'm really skeptical about how much this manicure is going to last based on that. A very disappointing appointment today at Smile Nails in Rolling Meadows. It was my first visit that a friend recommended. I was shuffled between 3 different ladies for a mani/pedi. Two thirds through my pedi another lady wanted to take over. The second lady then took me to begin my mani. Once again a third person took over. I had left a tip for the first woman during her caring for me. While waiting for my manicure I placed my money out to leave a tip and also separate area the cash for the combo services. Upon the 2nd lady being relieved she counted out the $4 tip for the mani and said,"$4 for 2 people". I responded that I had already left a $6 tip for the pedi. She then took the $4 tip leaving none for the lady completing my mani. The second lady also counted the $45 in cash and walked off with it. I questioned the fee since paying cash reduces the fee by $2. The 3rd lady apologized & refunded the $2. Upon my drive home I pulled over & called the shop. Spoke to the gentleman who listen, but asked my name THREE times. The complaints have appeared before on Yelp but haven't been rectified. I also wonder if the proper people are receiving their tips. I did not have a good experience here. I felt completely rushed the entire time. They did not take my dip off completely from the time before. I told them that they left a layer still on and they responded with. Oh it's just fine. Halfway through getting the dip done, they changed people and the second woman rushed to my nails so fast. She did not pay attention to detail and was not doing a good job. Before she started doing the dip color, I asked if it was sheer because I did not want sheer and she said no. Well, it was so the woman did a no chip color on top that did not match and she did not completely paint over the powder, so you can see now the dip powder, as well as the no chip color. The color doesn't even go all the way down to my cuticles so they already look grown out. I asked her if she could put cuticle oils on my nail and she didn't even get every single finger and then wash it off right away and told me I needed to get up out of the chair. As the Nail Technician and I started chatting about travel plans, she suggested I invest in the $30 No Chip Manicure. She assured me the nail polish can last up to 3 weeks. I had no idea there was such a thing! Basically, it requires special primer, nail polish, top coat and heat lamps. After the Polish was off, they didn't even file the nails to make them look even and smooth at the edges, leaving me with peeling nails and rough edges (a pet peeve of mine). I received a gift certificate to Smile Nails for Christmas so I decided to check it out and get a pedicure before my weekend trip to LA!!! When I went last night, it was very quiet. There were a couple other customers but generally people must have been a little sleepy because no one said much. I hate to admit it, but I spent most of my time on the phone. I really dislike when people have conversations in public but it was for work and I couldn't help it. The women working there were very nice about it, though, and I tried to keep it quiet and short. They did a wonderful job on the pedicure. Plus, they do a lower leg massage before painting the nails and a neck massage while you're waiting for them to dry! It was heavenly. The no chip manicures last at least two weeks, and don't peel. Their pedicures include extras such as paraffin wax on the heels and hot stones. I suspect they were also used when I received my pedicure because the same tech did not get clean tools from the autoclave after me/before she began working on the next client. I loved this place, the best nail salon I've ever been to without paying a arm and leg. The pedicure was amazing, the things they included was the perfect touch to keep clients coming back. It's something I've always said I would do if I ever owned a nail salon. And trust Me, i work in the beauty industry, it's hard when there 5 salon on your block alone. But they are so friendly, I had Kay and Ellen, they were nice and sweet, and did a amazing job. They give you a Lavender heated pad, help relax your shoulders, that was amazing and it smelled so good. They really make you feel relax.
