All the employees are so nice and understanding. We've gone to multiple dentists trying to find the right now and finally found them. Colleen is the best! She does such a great job numbing the kids and explains everything so well to make them comfortable. She says if it hurts them they can pinch her afterwards. Switched to this dentistry because we moved. Great little spot, close to home. Super friendly staff that was very helpful from the start of making an appointment. The hygienist we got was nice and made my daughter feel extremely comfortable. One thing I noticed was how clean and sterile it was in there.. the little details of putting plastic covers on everything while we were there made me feel good about my decision to move here. The dentist was great! Dr Misa was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to regarding my daughters teeth and how I can help. Overall, great experience! read more

Update to my review. Had an extensive procedure done here. They were super awesome. Doctors came out, anesthesiologist came out. All of them were super responsive and helpful and confident. Really really awesome customer service and work. They took care of insurance. Too easy. Just all around friendly and professional. This is my go to dentist for lil dude. Thanks y'all. The kids dentist (now smile surfers) is the best I've ever taken my kids to. Right through the door you can see how much fun it is, relaxing the kids before a sometimes nerve wracking procedure. The staff is friendly, attentive, and professional. They just moved to a new location, and revamped the their whole decor. It's fresh and fun, much bigger than the last place. It is super clean and they have top of the line equipment. I have a 14 year old that has been going to Dr Jarod for years and my 2 year old is now seeing him there. They look forward to going! We make the drive from Tacoma to Sumner because they're just that great! read more

Today was my first time at this office. I just moved from out of state and wanted to find an awesome pediatric dentist for my kids. This office looks great and is run professionally. Most importantly, Dr Jared Lothyan had great bedside manners with my fearful 8 yo who had to get three teeth extracted. Very patient and reassuring. His assistant was also awesome. Place seemed very busy but I was able to get an appt quickly and also didn't have to wait very long once there. Other pluses: movies with headphones for each child, prizes at the end, laughing gas, cute decor, lots of parking. Overall happy with my experience. read more

Excellent dentist who talks to both the kid and parent unlike others who don't include the kid in conversation about their teeth & care. They have movies, headphones and laughing gas for the kids. My daughter had teeth pulled and they work fast but slow to ease her anxiety when necessary. The hygienists seem to be different each visit. Yesterday's was fast and more vigorous than others in past. She was candid with my daughter which is what she needed. Dr Jared Loythan is very nice. He's good communicator and diagnose for future expectations for her mouth... braces, gum and teeth watches. read more

We have been patients of Dr. Jared Lothyan for a couple of years now and have been very happy with the dental care we have received from him at Smile Surfers Kids Dentistry. I very much trust his judgment and he is great about listening to my concerns and addressing them. His staff is wonderful as well. They are great with my kids and we feel very comfortable there. My kids first came to see Dr. Jared when my daughter had a referral to get her tooth pulled out at the previous Auburn office. N im so glad we did! The office is a beach theme. It has a play area for kids. N the staff n Dr. Jared are wonderful! The kids get to pick a movie to watch thats mounted on the ceiling. He also took a picture with my daughter n mailed it to us with a card. That definitely won me over n i transferred my other 2 kids to go there as well. Honestly, is this the best kids dentist I have ever seen and thats a lot coming from a pediatric dental assistant. The dental assistance here are extremely nice and comforting for the kiddos. My 3 year old is shy and they get him to come out of his shell every time. The office is totally decked out with 2 xboxs. A play house set up and a car. There are a lot of relaxing comfortable seating for parents. In the back they have movies above every chair for the kiddos to watch while getting their teeth cleaned. Better parking and more space than there office they had in Auburn so deffinatly a step up !! read more

Recent relocation from out-of state. This place looks great: clean, organized and beautifully decorated in a surf shack theme. Aside from aesthetics, the main area for exams and cleaning (with dental chairs) is a bit cramped and a few private rooms are available (3?). We experienced, both a private room, for cleaning, then moved out for another patient, and sent to the main area for the dental exam. The hygienist started the appointment against her favor by asking me in the waiting room in front of other parents & patients, "Is this her 1st time to the dentist?" And stayed in the door way waiting for my answer. Of course this wasn't my child's 1st visit but I couldn't help but think of THAT kid who hadn't been by age 9 and how embarrassing being asked private health information in the waiting room would be. The same hygienist, couldn't get the movie to start, accused my kid of having her cell phone on (umm, she doesn't have one, jerk, it's your equipment!) and just had an overall condescending attitude in regards to oral health care. Front office staff was friendly, but after I completed paperwork less than 10 minutes past my appointment time, we had to wait nearly 40 minutes, with no explanation or apology. Oh and they got our last name wrong, even in their computer. How they managed to get my appointment pre-approved by insurance is beyond me. We were later told that they were about to start a week long office vacation and the staff had their heads elsewhere. The female dentist (forgot her name, sorry) was ok, a bit rushed, we had to wait a bit for her to be available. She ordered additional x-rays and her final diagnosis was given to us by staff not the dentist. My daughter liked the token exchange for a treat but didn't like the cramped space of dental chairs, parents, technicians, hygienists and dentist. I agree. I'm not sure if we will return. Their schedule books way out in advance, appointment reminders are sent to email and text, that's a plus. Otherwise we will continue to shop around. read more

Like another poster wrote, this place is clean, nicely decorated, and staff is friendly. They also have fancy calendar e-mail and text reminders. Aside from that, it truly is cramped and absolutely no privacy. I think it is as cramped as the fire code would allow. It's as if someone took the exact measurements of the fire code and laid out the room arrangement to that spec. After taking our 5 year old here for two years now, I feel like they try to spread out the visits to make more money. I really don't have time to take a procedure that should be one visit, to be spread over 3 which they have done and continually try to do. I also dislike how much Jared tries to push the use of xylitol candy. I want my kid to develop good brushing, flossing and mouth wash techniques and not lean on a synthetic method to care for her teeth. As soon as we find another dentist, we will stop visiting this dentist. read more

This is a GREAT and FANTASTIC place to bring your children for their initial dental experiences. The office has this beach theme going, the walls are painted as if you are sitting on the beach and the floors are painted, giving a pool-like illusion, VERY COOL. There is also a children's play area with toys and books and an XBOX! My kids are always happy to come here. I have a 21 month old and a 4yr old. I took them both for cleanings 2 weeks ago and had a wonderful experience. My 4yr old had her sights set on the dvd player above her chair. I especially loved the tender and loving treatment they give to young children, my baby doesn't like anyone touching her, but she did very well with her dentist Dr. Jared. Believe me, this is the place to go! You get the service and professionalism you pay for. If you want people who are trained to serve in the pediatrics field and love children, this is it! read more

We recently moved to Washington from Arizona. We had chose a general dentist, but felt like our children did not get that special attention that we all want from our kids. So we switched to The Kids Dentist in Auburn, WA. The whole office was so outgoing and friendly. Dr. Jared spent time with us to really explain how our kids teeth are doing, and what to expect in the future of thier teeth, such as othodontic care and wisdom teeth care, as well as decay prevention. He really took the time to listen and explain and you can really tell that everyone in that office truely cares about the dental health of our children. Thanks Dr. Jared and team!! read more

Been taking my now 16-year-old daughter to see Dr. Jared since she was about 7. She had a terrible gag reflex and the staff in Dr. Jared's office have always been AMAZING! My 7-year-old started seeing Dr. Jared when he was about 1-1/2 and they are always so patient with him. Even when they moved to Sumner, I still make the tips from Burien to see them. Just took my 1.5yr old son to Dr. Jared for his first dental visit, and was thoroughly impressed by the atmosphere, staff, and methodology of the practice. Receptionist was friendly and engaged, there was an awesome (contained!) playroom with a variety of toys, and our appointment started right on time. Hygienist Jenny was helpful entertaining my son while she went over basic education and concerns with me, and Dr. Jared was amazingly gentle, efficient, and thorough with his exam. This will definitely be our dental home! We were sent home with a free kids' Sonicare Toothbrush, and a big bag of goodies! read more

My grandson has been coming here for 4 years and he will continue until Dr. Jared says he's too old. Our first appt. I watched him and the staff's interaction with my grandson, other patients and I was totally amazed. He throughly goes over his dental procedures and has explained why some procedures are spread out. My kiddo developed a toothache and our "family"dentist wasn't nearly as kid friendly as they could be, so I called Smile Surfers after seeing their name in a search. They fit us in immediately and had the work done the next day. Their atmosphere and manner is very child-oriented, they work hard to put and keep a child at ease, and I am so impressed. I didnt even think a dentist's office could be as friendly, understanding, and caring as this office and these people are. It is our official new dentist and I recommend it strongly to anyone looking for a dentist they can trust their child's teeth and oral health to. read more

The dentist and staff are great. My son's insurance maxed out and his spacer was loose. They charged me $100 bucks out of pocket to recemment since the spacer was originally put on by a different dentist. It's tough since right before the holidays. :( I wish prices were cheaper when paying our of pocket. read more
