I called immediately and was able to get an appointment the very next day, July 16. When we arrived, they told me they needed to take a new set of X-rays because the ones from Bay Dental weren't up to their standards. This was despite the referral clearly indicating which three teeth needed treatment. The first thing the dental assistant told me after walking into the room was, "Be ready to pay about $600 out of pocket." Naturally, I was confused. She explained that their office routinely uses nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to sedate children during fillings. I explained that my daughter had previously had two cavities filled using only local numbing and did very well. I was then told that their dentist does not numb the area and instead uses nitrous oxide. The total estimate came to $754.40 out of pocket. To make things even more confusing, they then told me they would only fill two of the three cavities and simply monitor the third one. If I'm already expected to pay nearly $800, why wouldn't all three cavities be treated? In my opinion, this place is a rip-off. It did not feel consumer-friendly, and it seemed like the office preferred using sedation because it made the procedure easier for them rather than considering that my 8-year-old had already handled fillings successfully with local numbing. That approach, combined with the high out-of-pocket cost and treating only two of the three cavities, was enough for us to walk away and seek care elsewhere.

We have a dental HMO plan and unfortunately, there are almost no pediatric practices that accept it, so we were cash pay. However, this place is pretty reasonable cash prices. It was $135 for my older daughter, and babies under 18 months get their first visit complimentary. It was slightly cheaper than a couple other nearby places, and the reviews were very positive so I decided to try it. The waiting room is small but very neat and tidy. The aesthetic is cute, and they have a few toys for kids but it's not crazy or cluttered. It's actually better that way since kids are just drawn to one or two toys instead of overwhelmed by the options. We were called back shortly after we checked in, and it wasn't very crowded that day when we went. My older daughter laid on the exam chair and they have TVs on the ceiling so she got to watch a show, which she was pleased with. The hygienist and the dentist were both great. They were informative without being patronizing, and they respected my parenting choices and offered advice that fell within the scope of my choices. For example, continuing to breastfeed my young toddler (14 months old) at nighttime does increase the risk of cavities, but they informed me that they understand the benefits of breastfeeding and that the risk increases primarily after 18 months, which was helpful to know. Another example is we discussed fluoride vs. non-fluoride toothpaste. We had been using non-fluoride especially when we have to brush teeth on the go (like trying to be on time to school), so they said if we don't do fluoride every time, then doing it at the nighttime brushing is the most helpful time of day to kill the most bacteria. I appreciated that their advice was realistic and balanced enough to recognize that parents weigh many factors when making parenting decisions, and not all decisions are 100% about good dental hygiene. For my toddlers appointment they mainly wanted to inspect her teeth, do a quick brush and apply fluoride, but it was very short. They had me hold her on my lap face up and just worked on her there. Of course my toddler screamed the entire time, but they worked fast and were sympathetic but not shocked by the behavior. Seems like they have a lot of experience! They gave both my kids stickers and each a new toothbrush at the end. It was a very positive visit and we will definitely be back!

What had been a traumatic experience for my son at another pediatric dentist turned into a completely enjoyable experience here. They were extremely understanding of his needs, especially since he is sensitive to the idea of the gas mask. They even let him take home a bubblegum-scented mask ahead of time so he could get comfortable with it before his appointment. That small gesture made a huge difference. Both of his cavities were treated so smoothly, and the doctor was incredible. Working with a six-year-old in a dental chair while performing difficult procedures takes a tremendous amount of patience and skill, and they knew exactly how to make Noah feel comfortable throughout the entire process.
