The office staff lied about filing a pre-authorization with my insurance provider and provided an "estimate" of patient responsibility that was +50% higher than what was actually covered by my insurance. 4 business days after my child's treatment we provided the EOB (explanation of benefits) to the office staff and they refused to even look at it and insinuated that the EOB was made up rather than a genuine document from the insurance provider. Based upon the EOB, we requested an immediate refund of the grossly inaccurate overcharge the office staff demanded on the day of treatment, but the office staff said they would not provide a refund until they were paid in full by the insurance company. When we asked to speak with the dentist, we were told that he was not available. The dentist and this office staff are not customer focused, do not have integrity, and should be avoided by the community. There are plenty of pediatric dentist in the area, and we would highly recommend that you do not use Lantzy Children's Dentistry.

So i paid the deposit, had my old dentist forward my records, and spent over an hour completing all the on-line forms for their office. When I showed up to appointment, they presented me with this HUGE bill to pay before they do anything. When I reminded them about the insurance verification and filing, I was told they did not know how much would be refunded to me by insurance so I would have to pay and then wait to see. My insurance was billed incorrectly using my previous carrier, and instead of helping resolve the issue, she repeatedly insisted it was my fault because the employee who originally took my insurance information "didn't update the system correctly." She continued to tell me that no insurance card had been scanned into my file, despite the fact that I explained multiple times that MetLife doesn't issue insurance cards. Rather than listening or trying to help, she became increasingly hostile. When I politely asked if I could speak with someone else, she refused and instead told me she "wasn't comfortable" continuing the conversation and that I could call back "when I was calm." The irony is that I wasn't the one who had become confrontational. Unfortunately, this was just the latest in a long list of issues. Over time I've dealt with repeated problems involving insurance, billing, and appointment scheduling. At some point, enough is enough. Dr. Hooper, my experiences with you have always been positive, but your front desk staff is representing your practice poorly. They are the first impression patients have, and interactions like this are damaging your reputation and costing you business. I hope this feedback is taken seriously because the level of customer service I experienced today was completely unacceptable.

I have been trying to resolve this directly with the office and request a refund for the amount I was incorrectly charged, but my calls and messages have gone unanswered. Because I was unable to get a response or resolution, I had to file a complaint with my credit card company to dispute the charge. I expected better communication and customer service from a healthcare provider. I hope the office improves its communication and works to address billing concerns more transparently with patients. Sadly, this is not the first time it happened. They like to overcharge you and then keep the extra money as credit on your account (but are not transparent about this either).
