Had a bomb burger here...double stack! My daughter got a grilled cheese... we didn't want the American cheese so they swapped it for cheddar! So awesome that they did! And my wife got a chicken sandwich...also delicious! Everything tastes so fresh! Good came out promptly! Service was excellent! I was skeptical when I walked in. The place is a little dirty, the credit card machine was down (cash only) and the soda machine was out of order. The soup of the day was broccoli cheese but they didn't have any so they put that sign behind the counter when I asked about it. I took a chance and ordered because my spidey-sense was beeping. I ordered the blackened chicken Caesar salad and a small bowl of tomato bisque. The salad was excellent. The soup would have been to die for except too much pepper. The black pepper overwhelmed the soup. I did notice sun dried tomatoes in the soup and that worked really nicely. In fact, I may sauté some sun dried tomatoes and drop in tomato soup at home. read more

Sandwiches were good overall, we enjoyed our order. Ingredients tasted fresh, proportions were well balanced, and the size was reasonable. Overall, the sandwich went very well together. We ordered three different sandwiches and enjoyed all of them. I sadly didn't take any pictures of them, but we enjoyed all three different types. Food was horrible! They messed up our order and didn't even care to tell us. We waited for more than one hour for our food. The burgers were mediocre and low quality. Food was also cold and service was disappointing. The girl at the cashier had a very sassy attitude and they don't use gloves or even washed their hands! (From cleaning, handling money and cooking ready to eat veggies!) and touching their faces!! Also I literally saw them taking bites of food from people's orders!! What the hell! I wanted to like it here but it just wasn't that great. I'll start with something positive: service was fast and friendly! They didn't have any kind of non dairy milk for the coffee though so I didn't order any. We got the turkey sandwich and the hippie chick veggie sandwich. Both were just ok. The bread tasted old...it was very dry and flavorless honestly. The ingredients/toppings looked fresh. When you take a bite they all tumble out so you have to keep putting them back in. No biggie but we felt like a mess eating them. And the spreads were skimpy which may have caused the bread to seem so dry. When we sat down we had to take out a hand wipe and clean off the table since it was full of crumbs. Ew. The sandwiches weren't *bad* per se, but just not good enough to want to stop here again. read more

I checked out Smiling Moose while being in the area and desperately needing something to eat for breakfast. Figured I'd try out something new rather than the usual fast food while on the road and I also needed a quality cup of coffee. I ordered one of their breakfast sandwiches (forgot what mountain-ish name it had) but eggs, spinach, roasted red peppers, pepper jack on an everything bagel. At $5.25, it was I felt not a terrible price for the area and tasted good. Got a small cup of their dark roast coffee and that hit the spot as well. Service was kind and quick. From a COVID-19 standpoint, they certainly had the signage up on masks but I'm not sure that it was actually really being enforced too much among the clientele. I don't really know what to make of this area given it's around Vail and it was the holiday season and that COVID-19 apparently wasn't stopping skiers from still having their vacations. So, for such a small space, I can't really wrap my head around people that were in their waiting or willing to eat in their dining area. This seems much more accommodating of a place to just grab something to-go (which I did) and in the later part of the morning it really was not so busy that I was overwhelmed at all with the number of people in there related to social distancing. Ultimately, a positive enough experience for me simply looking for a sufficient, quick breakfast and good cup of coffee. read more

Sooooo... we were here in the winter and the food was good. We decided to come back this summer and the food wasn't quite good, plus there's a global pandemic which they seem to be unaware of. Ok so, this is a FOOD establishment. They have a small sign on the door stating COVID-19 preventive requirements for customers, which maybe 40% of customers ignored. (I won't even go into descriptions of who was wearing a mask (building and street construction employees) and who was not (late teens and 20-somethings who were not female and possibly tourists.) The ordering area was full of people and it was difficult to maintain distance. I've been to clothing stores with stricter enforcement. There are so many things they could be doing. 1) Don't take orders from customers who aren't wearing masks. 2) Improve signage, for Pete's sake! People are naturally LEMMINGS. We will follow your lead. You have to be the ones to set the bar for your restaurant. Your signage is lazy. Your patrons are not taking it seriously because you're obviously not. Btw, why in the world do you not have social distancing signs on the floor?? And, if you really want to step it up because you're a FOOD establishment, follow Patagonia's lead. Use one door for entry and one for exit. Have hand sanitizer outside the entrance and tell people they need to use it before coming in. Schedule an extra employee to stand at the door (GASP! Yes! Pay someone to stand at the door!) to monitor room density. I had two stars but then I changed it to one as I remember watching people ordering with their masks IN THEIR HANDS (no one was saying anything) and counting how many potential transferences of disease I witnessed. You may be wondering why I didn't leave. Well, I am a lemming for my family (see LEMMINGS above ^) and my kid wanted to eat here. We stood by the door, wore masks and firehosed ourselves off once we got to the car. Also, the bbq sandwich I had was cold and there was hardly any bbq sauce which, on a bbq sandwich, is fairly important. Now that we're home, I'm taking my temperature and pulse ox daily for 14 days. If anything happens, I sure as heck am not reporting Patagonia. read more

As we headed back east towards Denver, we chose to stop by Smiling Moose and grab a couple sandwiches for our late lunch. Overall our experience was "A-OK." Nothing really stood out or wow'ed either of us. Decor was nice. Kind of a modern trendy. The service was okay. Nothing to write home about. There were only a couple other guests there during our visit. I ordered the wild turkey off the cold sandwich menu and it was def tasty. Being the avocado fan that I am, I love that several of their sandwich options come with "avocado mash!" All in all, I'd def consider stopping back in if I'm in the area and craving a sandwich! read more

The worst location. Every time I have gone in they get my order wrong. I never order anything complicated, just a standard "Mo" off of the menu, and they mess it up every time. If you go to this location, check your order before you leave because 9 times out of 10, they've just made what they wanted to make, and not what you actually ordered. read more
