Left with a bruised face after what was suppose to be a relaxing facial. Smita still charged me the entire amount WITH gratuity. This is an example of how to not run a business. This is not my normal salon and I just wanted to try out their facial service. When I saw my face after the facial, I had blood coming out below my chin from a scratch on plain skin (no pimple), blood clot under my lips, on my temple, sides of nose, on the bone of my nose, between my eye brows, over my eyebrows, and realized she was trying to pluck out my mole calling it a blackhead. And when I complained to her at the counter, her defense was but you had a lot of blackheads and this blood clot will go away tomorrow morning. Today is the fourth day, and I have to go on a dinner with blood clots on my face. Details: Before the facial she looked at my face under a light and said, "kitna whitehead and blackhead hai" (you've so many whiteheads and blackheads), and I thought to myself nice show, but I know my skin is pretty good, thanks to my regular facials. But I didn't mind it because that's what salons do. Tell you you need more, and then give you more, charge you more. Fair game! But not here. I asked for a VLCC facial, she charged me for one, but got a mix of old random products. She used a random soap to clean my face which got into my eyes and burnt it for the next 5 mins. I know because I only get VLCC facials at my usual place and also in India when my mother owns a salon, so I clearly knew the difference. Next, she took out a dry piece of what was suppose to be a cream scrub and literally scratched my face with it for the next 30 seconds. That's it. So before I could even tell her that its hurting she was done. Next she puts me on a steam and vanishes for 15 minutes. So I am under steam for literally the next 15 minutes, unable to breath, but still hoping that may be this is where the wonder will happen. When she came back she took the blackhead remover and went to work like she was having a really bad day. There was no pattern to how she was using the remover, she literally went all over my face with all her physical might to remove nothing. I kept yelling out of pain (absolutely not what I do for waxing or threading or even blackhead removing), I had to tell her several times that this is brutal, go soft, I don't have blackhead there, No STOP, Please be gentle, MUMMY!, stop stop, that's it!! No more!! And finally when this torture stopped, I knew I was in bad shape. But I thought any blood clot (I just knew I had to have them after that torture) would go away after this next massage of cream. But no! The next massage was literally by the clock for 5 minutes with very dry hands, and so little cream that my skin pulled every time she moved her hands. I told her your hands are dry and its hurting, she said we're done with the cream, its time for pack, and that's when I lost it but didn't say anything. The rest is mentioned above. My takeaways from this experience: 1. If you've come to the US in the last 10 years, you've probably experienced far better salon services for far less money. So here you're better off going to the American salons and experiencing their customer service and trying a new style of facial. Because Smita's salon is American cost for really old school Indian customer service. Even in India salon give you credits to use in future if you're not satisfied. Smita has no competition in the commercial setup so she's pretty arrogant with her style of business. 2. If you really like the Indian facial styles, look for women who do it at home. Yes, you wont get the salon feeling, but you wont even pay as much and the quality is pretty good. I go to one Kiran Aunty in Andover, and she is really good!! God know why I wanted to try Smita's. eh! 3. Indians who own businesses in Boston area, need to go back to India to the cities and see what's changing there and stay up-to date with quality expectation. This is imperative if they want business from this generation of Indians who are very value conscious. read more

I had a very bad experience in this boutique. I went for a hair cut and threading. First they started with my Hair cut. The lady who started to cut my hair just asked two questions: "What type of hair cut do you want" and "how much length u want it to be cut" and she started cutting my hair. she was very rude and when it is required to bend by head, she literally pushed my head down. she also pulled my hair with comb and that was very harsh and it pained. To cut my hair, she sprayed water on my hair and even on my face.Finally, she did some type of hair cut which is not exactly what i requested for. Then i told her that i need to go for a Shampoo wash and a blow dry. she said it would cost additional 25 $. I said that its OK and i need to go for that too. But there was no response from her. I realised that she is in a hurry to leave for the day. she cleaned the place and said bye to her colleague and left for the day without even informing other co-workers about my request for Shampoo and Blow dry. I was waiting that some one will attend me, but none cared. Then i myself asked another lady for shampoo and Blow dry and she said "the lady had left for the day and there is no other person who can do that for you". Bad isn't it? But i should accept that the threading the other lady did for me was good. Finally i came to the counter to pay my bill. The lady who was in the counter asked me if i would like to give a tip for the lady who did my hair cut. I explained her the whole story and said that i dont want to give her tip, but she dint even bother about that. I would never suggest anyone to go to this parlor for anything other than threading. This is the worst beauty parlor experience in my life. Customer service is very bad. Horrible!!! read more

I went here on Sunday for the first time . I was a bit nervous trying a new place, but I'm glad I went to Smita's Boutique . I went in with "jacked up" eyebrows and left with perfect brows . I've been going to Smita for almost 4 years now. Customer service is really, REALLY bad, but I liked how she did my eyebrows. Having said that, the last 6months that I went there, things just had gotten so much worse, I got a rash around my eyebrows that lasted 3 weeks. I didn't think it was because Of it, but I just read that someone had the same reaction. Smita taking on the phone while doing threading is another thing that really bothers me, before , when she did a good job, I was ok with it, but the last time I was there, she was on the phone and taking care of the front desk and doing my eyebrows at the same time. After she was done, my eyebrows were very thin, and wi I pointed it out to her, she immediately got all defensive that I just pretended nothing had happened and that I was ok with it. I first went to this place back in September/October of 2011. My daughter has very thick eyebrows and she needed her eyebrows shaped. This wasn't the first time she has gotten threaded. After we came from the salon, indeed, Smita's technique was very fast and not too painful. After one week, my daughter had breakouts all over her forehead. Till this day, she can still feel little bumps all across. Previously when she had gotten her eyebrows done in another salon, she had breakouts for one week and it then disappeared. I went again to Smita's lately and she was extremely rude. She asked me if I had an appointment and to come back later. I guess she won't hire extra staff because she wants the money all to herself. Threading: First things first and I'll start with a disclaimer. If you can ignore the chatty staff and ignorant Indian employees who assume every brown-colored skin person speaks Hindi, then this is the place to go for your eyebrows. Though I must say, Smita does a far better job when compared to the other 'eyebrow women'. Why? Well, to begin with they are ALWAYS in a rush; there's always an important conversation to get back to. Go figure. I almost always ask my eyebrows to be 'cleaned up' because the eyebrow women do a pretty awful job (the last one being Hetal). And did I also mention that she gave me line brows? I have been growing mine ever since. Smita on the other hand, is fast and offers a pain free experience. Waxing: Bitter sweet experience. It took one bad experience and that was it for me. I had (still do have) bumps on my legs from aggressive waxing (read intense pulling). Also, there was a temp who used to work there in the summer who told me that the employees do no handle the waxing station and clients with clean hands. I don't know how true this is (maybe a disgruntled employee? I don't know), but it was definitely disturbing to hear. Front office staff: The woman with the long hair; one with the perpetual frown - Not so friendly. In fact, she's pretty rude. The new employees however, are incredibly sweet and really help the crumbling customer service recover- slowly. My general feedback to Smita and her husband,.. do something about your original staff (coach them, talk to them, do something because they are pretty rude!). The new girls are great! I had a very unpleasant experience at Smita's salon and would give it zero stars if I could. I went to Smita's Boutique to get a facial today. The aesthetician spent a total of 10 minutes with me over the course of an hour's facial and spent the rest of her time attending to other customers. I spent most of the hour unattended and waiting for her. All I received was a 20 minute steam and had to wait for half an hour with a mask on which I could have easily done on my own at home for free. Moreover they charge a mandatory 15% gratuity whether you liked the service or not. I would not recommend this salon to anyone. read more

Very sad experience here. I am a regular here with Smitha. My little 3 yr old wanted to potty and the lady at the reception very rudely asked me to go to dunkin donuts. I mentioned I am a regular customer and she said restroom is not open for customers. I took kiddo to the Anthony Davis salon next door and they let me use the restroom. I went back to speak with Smitha who was apologetic about what happened. But the front desk lady was "I don't care" and continued to act like a prick... The only reason I gave this boutique two stars instead of one is because it offers some modestly priced Indian clothes for anyone who is on a tight budget. I drove out to Burlington from Cambridge with a non-Indian friend to find her an outfit to wear to my wedding. When we walked in, the front of the store was set up as a boutique with clothes and jewelry, and the back looked like it was a salon. A lady greeted us from the salon by saying, "yes?" I told her that we wanted to look at clothes. She said ok and left us to our browsing. She came in a few minutes later and asked what specifically we were looking for, and I told her we were looking for a salwar or a sari for my friend to wear to a wedding. She lead us to the $20-$25 saris, and explained that they came with blouse pieces that you could have stitched or that you could purchase a silver or golden stretchable blouse for $14. Fair enough. As we were looking through the saris, we realized that some of the saris had a different color on the inside and some of them just had the contrast border. My friend, looking to see if a sari she liked had a different color on the inside, opened it halfway (it was a different, non-flattering for my friend, color inside). I folded it on the creased so that it was the same as the others and stacked it neatly back on the shelf. My friend opened another one that she'd picked out (which again had a non-flattering color on the inside), and the lady, who was now snacking while talking to us, asked us to ask her for help and not open them because they are hard to fold. Again, fair enough, even though she'd been watching when I folded and properly put away the first one; clearly we weren't in her store to make a mess and leave. We apologized, and my friend brought the third sari that she liked to her and asked for help seeing the inside. The lady told her no, because they are all the same from the inside and only have different borders. She followed by saying, in the most condescending tone, "See how this border is different from that border? Some are bigger and some are smaller. That's the only difference." Clearly, there were other differences. Plus, they have a no returns policy, so I wanted to be sure that we liked what we were getting and that there were no defects before we made the purchase. We put down the choices we'd made and left. We'll spend a little more to get a better experience. read more

Honestly, I would rate it 0 if the option exist. I had my eyebrows threaded my entire life, started in the Middle East at different places and/ or people in the U.S. This place is aweful beyond expectations: (1) it is just filthy where ever you look. They use a pillow to lean back on while threading, judging from the place I would not assume they wash the pillow cover enough PLUS a pillow!! you should try to be more professional, do you really mean business here. (2) Appointments are ridiculous, first time I called to make an appointment within the next 10 minutes,, during my lunch break, I got there and they weren't! second time I had to wait about 15 minutes. (3) It is freaken painFULL.. like I said, I tried different places, some people know how to do it and other just don't. Smita smiply doesn't,, my eyebrows don't really grow much and it only takes 1-2 minutes to clean, without the need to even shape, SHE JUST DIGS IN with the thread! I told her to take it easy with no luck. I was very happy to leave, that was one time experience and NEVER EVER again. read more

I went to this Boutique with my family to shop for my borther-in-law's wedding. Since it was our first time visiting the store, we were hoping for a nice selection of Indian clothing. But to our disappointment - The store was dingy, a bit dirty, and they did not have any wedding selections. And the lady sitting at the register was something else ... while my family was browsing through the store, I had to use the bathroom real bad. So I went to the lady sitting at the register and asked her where their bathroom was. She gave me a weird look and said, "you are not my customer and the bathroom is for customers only." I was shocked to hear that and told her "well, we are here to shop but I need to pee first" and her reply was " you have not bought anything yet, so I can't let you use the bathroom" WOW!!! was all I could say to her at the moment and I asked my family to leave the store immediately. WHAT A CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! The store carries minimal clothing selections, but the employee definitely has a BIG A.. ATTITUDE. Lady, too bad you lost our business $$$$$, but most important - PLEASE LOSE THAT ATTITUDE if you want to run a business in America. walked right in and i had to wait about 10 minutes and a woman did my eyebrows in about 3 minutes and it was quickly done and awesome. It's $8 for a threading but $9 if you use a credit/debit card, but it's still cheap for great service. Ill definitely go back next time I need a threading and I have enough time to spare. read more

Smita's facials are AWESOME! I get Shehnaz gold done which was suggested by Smita and it definitely suits my skin. You can ask her for suggestion, she is an expert with years of experience. I've been living in London for the past 3.5 years and have tried MANY different salons there, but still can't find anyone as good as Smita. Worst experience ever! I have always had thick eyebrows , and I am really scared to have super thin eyebrows. Inspite of telling her to keep the eyebrows thick, she made them super thin. Please don't think about going here if you like your eyebrows thick. She ll make it super thin to add atleast 5 years to your age! I prefer to have Smita do my eyebrows because I think she's the fastest and I've had the most experience with her, but everyone else is fine too. Good place! I regularly visit the Smita's Boutique for lips and eyebrows. It is very close to my house so I can walk down to the place. The threading for eyebrows works well for me and looks good. I do not prefer waxing my eyebrows because it does not provide a curvy shape to them. There are 2 options for lips too - threading or waxing. This flexibility is better as I can't tolerate threading for the sensitive area above the lips. I prefer waxing option for this part. No need to take the appointments for the boutique so I can visit it whenever I feel like, the speed at which Smita delivers the service is also awesome and this compensates for the waiting time in the boutique, if any. I would like to recommend this boutique to my friends. read more

Hi I recently moved and was recommended Smita boutique. While my eyebrows were done ok the girl constantly was distracted chatting with other colleagues in the shop. The attitude of all employees was not courteous. I have been there 3-4 times now since I didn't find any other salon nearby. Every time, I always got the feeling that they were doing me a favor for free rather than me paying for their service. I have since switched back to my old salon even though it's quite far away. I have been coming to Smita for facials for many years and her services are excellent!!!! She has been helping me manage my acne with excellent results! This facial really cleans, exfoliates and removed black heads. Extremely fair pricing and excellent results. Smita works with all types of skin! Any person who wants young, fresh and clear skin should see Smita. I can not say enough good things about the results. I try to go every quarter and keep up my routine.
