Riding back to NJ after visiting Gatlinburg, TN., and the surrounding areas, we were making a stop in Johnson City, and as we have been doing, we were looking for nearby HD dealerships. (My GPS picked it up as Wrecking Crew, my friend's GPS had it listed as Smith Brothers.). Once I saw the name Wrecking Crew, I said we had to stop there because my brother's recreation softball league from many years ago was called the WRECKING CREW, and he just started riding again. We got there but were too late, it was closed but we didn't check the doors. Last two customers came out, and thinking they were employees, I told them my plight of wanting a shirt for my brother. The girl went back inside and told the manager. He (Aaron) came out and I told him we were on our way home to NJ and why I wanted a shirt to surprise my brother with, and when he noticed my Marine Corps patch on my vest, he inquired of who was a Marine, I told him my 2 brothers, one of which was the one I wanted the shirt for, my Father, my Uncles, and my cousin. For that reason especially he brought me back in the store and let me go pick out a shirt for my brother even though they were already closed. The fact that we weren't even from the area and were not established customers and he went out of his way for me, I can honestly say we will be returning customers on our next trip out. I truly am so grateful for Aaron going over and beyond to make me a happy customer! Took a wheel off a bike (non Harley) to have a tire replaced. I get a call my bearings are bad and do I want them replaced. Sure sounds great...I get the wheel back only to have it rubbing into my swing arm. Had to load the bike up and take to a competent shop to have it repaired. Turns out the bearings were the wrong size and they failed to replace the sleeve in between bearings. Wow! I've had issues in the past but damn I thought they had gotten better! I will NEVER take any of my bikes back up there ever! I gave them 2 stars because at least they got a tire mounted without butchering up my wheel. read more

Incompetent would best describe the people here at Smith Brothers. I brought them a 63 harley frame and asked them to drop a motor in it that was assembled. The motor did not fit, so I asked them to notch the frame as is typically done in this case. Instead, they took the head off of the engine that I spent hours doing, and had the audacity to charge me $330 for disassembling my engine and leaving it to me in pieces for which I also had to buy new gaskets. I never authorized them to disassemble my engine to begin with and they even wanted to charge me more to reassemble it to return it to me in the condition I gave it to them. Wow where do I start. First. A couple months back I bought a new harley 883 iron for my sons birthday. They did not have the specific style. (Color) that we wanted and kindly offered to order me exactly what we wanted so we went with it. The bike arrived exactly when they said it would and was exactly what we wanted. I picked it up and a few days later. my sons birthday arrived and he was literally the happiest kid in town. We went for several rides and at 450 miles the bike just simply stoped pulling. We made our way over to the side of the road and I called my sells guy. Within 15 minutes smith bros had a truck and trailer there to assist us. (I was really surprised since we where in my opinion atleast 45 minutes away from the dealer and a Saturday evening to add to it). They took the bike back to the dealer. Called me first thing Monday morning to tell me it was a MAJOR assembly issue obviously caused during manufacturing. He then told me harley was sending a brand new motor and he would let me know something in 2 weeks. Well 4 days later the service guy calls me to tell me the brand new motor has arrived and they would be replacing it the following day (Saturday) exactly one week from when they got the bike. Two days later (Monday)I called just to see how it was going and to my surprise the lady told me the bike was being washed so I grabbed my kid and we drove to the dealer where the bike was already sitting outside looking exactly like it originally looked. We had already upgraded the covers, filter and several other things and all that had been swapped over to the new motor. I work on bikes myself so I did a very good look over and could not find one sign that the motor was not the original one. A lot of people would complain at a new harley with 400 miles needing a new motor and yes that did suck. But I could not be any happier with how the guys at smith brothers handled this. I honestly expected it to take several weeks but one week of down time is amazing. I also expected to hear some grief about user error or what not beings they knew it was a gift for a young rider. But there was none of that. The sells guy was very helpful. The finance guy was very helpful and took lots of time going over all our options and was very honest about everything. The day we bought the bike we bought two communication devices for our helmet that was so uncomfortable we couldn't use them. 500$. and when I took them back the parts guy never asked one question or even looked the parts over like most places do. He then Gave me a 100% refund and wished us well. So needless to say in my opinion you would be very hard pressed to find a better dealership from buying bikes to parts to warranty repair to returning something that wasn't right for us. these guys did everything spot on they also appear to keep a very large amount of stock especially the accessories and clothing.. I'm really glad we have such a wonderful dealership right here in my hometown. I have rode Harley's all my life and normally stay away from dealerships due to past experiences with them. Smith bros has regained my confidence in dealerships and I'm so glad I chose them to buy my sons bike from. read more

What a great people. On my annual trip across the country, I got stuck in Chilhowie, on a Road Glide, which as it turned out, had a broken starting clutch. Not only they were open on a Monday, the only dealership in 50 mile radius, but they picked me up in less than 90 minutes and went out of their way to get me back on the road within hours. Through and through very friendly and attentive, with great bunch of guys hanging around the lounge, making coffee and swapping stories, as they called themselves "loafers". Bike is running great again, and they've put quite an effort to wipe off the last 2000 miles of it, so it came out sparkly clean. #1 in my book. read more

I have stopped in Smith Brothers a few years back riding around. I was looking for something for my 1988fxstc. They did not have parts in stock. They did however go out of their way to look up and direct me where I could find the part I was looking for. So recently I tried adjusting my rear suspension and really messed up one shock bad. I have called around and look everywhere for a new set of shocks. No one could supply for my year model. So I called Smith Brothers they said they can get me a set. I went in and they had a hard time finding the shocks for a 1988 model. But they spent a lot time searching and checking my options. Thanks Chris. The local Harley shop where I live wouldn't touch my bike because it was a 1988 it was too old for them. So the next day I went back to Smith Brothers to drop off my bike. What happened next in believable from a Harley dealer. They made sure the shocks came in. The shocks were in. They took my bike right away back in the shop put my bike on the lift. And in an hour shocks were installed and adjusted. Not one person that I have encountered at Smith Brothers had an attitude of negativity. The whole staff was real friendly and eager to help. On 20 July were were traveling through TN on our yearly guys ride. I was experiencing some humming noise when turning in either direction, not while the bike was level. We stopped at the nearest HD dealer which happened to be Smith Brothers HD. I go to the service counter, explain to the service writer that we are traveling and I am experiencing a problem with my 2017 RGS(still under warranty) He said he would get a tech to test ride it to see if they could diagnose the issue at hand. The employees that I had interactions with were very respectful and courteous. They did the normal paperwork and inspection of they bike. Came in and said the tire pressure is good and that I have a beautiful bike. The tech than took the bike on a 7mile test ride. While he was o. The test ride, I was looking at shirts to buy as any Harley rider will buy a shirt from dealerships the visit. The prices were steep but i figured with being a Army Veteran(I was wearing my CVMA(combat veterans motorcycle association) vest, I would get a military discount. NO MILITARY DISCOUNT!!! So, I put the shirt back because $38 for a regular tshirt, short sleeve with no pocket is pricey. By this time the tech came back with my bike. He tells me that the front wheel is starting to cup that I will be fine to ride it the rest of our journey but get it replace st mu next service. I am checking out with the writer at the desk and he tells me that itll be $14.78! I said what? He said the tech had to punch in to do the test ride. I wasnt going to argue with them so I paid it. They didnt tell me about the charge till after the tech returned and I was checking out. Being a business owner myself, this is unheard of. Charging for a test ride to diagnose an issue on a bike that's still under warranty at that!!! That is my biggest complaint and the no military discount, how can you say you support our military and not give a discount to them? I am a very strong military supporter and I understand that companies dont have to give them discounts, but ALOT ot Harley riders were and are military. They help your business and the HD brand by buying the parts, 30k$ plus bikes, and gear and apparel. Next time I'm in the area, I will try another dealership that is not owned by the Smith Brothers. I will choose a different HD with a different owner. read more

I had my 2003 Heritage Softail serviced by Smith Brothers in August 2011. It had an oil leak and I had them check over the entire bike. During their check they found the rear brake to be completely worn out. I had them replace everything that was bad. Not only were they VERY professional and did EVERYTHING I wanted, when I got my bike back it was cleaned. And I dont mean just washed, this sucker shined as if it just rolled off the showroom floor! I just bought my first new bike from Smith Brothers. They were patient with me, gave me good information and were very fair with the price of my new bike. Their service department talked me through some of my upgrade choices and handled the work on my new Street Glide with pride. I can't say how happy I am with the overall service I've received. They now offer a military discount on parts & accessories, 10-20% depending on who you are and can show them what the other dealers are doing for you. They still need to work on there pricing on motorcycles before I'll buy a bike from them. Better deals at other dealerships on new bikes. read more

Smith bros have been in this community for a long timethey stood by harley through the good times and the bad (remember amf !) growing up here i remember as a teenrideing my yamaha there and drooling over the 1980 sturgis and wide glide now i own one and can walk in proud owning a piece of american history but it is disapointing that as a veteran they dont offer those of us that also gave for america at least a tokken discount for our service im sure its ust a oversite and they will rectifie that if you must choose a harly dealer in this area tharleyhey are my #1choose go harley ..go smith bros.....go america!!!!!! read more
