I'm not a blogger and I don't spend much time giving reviews. It's just not my thing. Typically, if I encountered a good experience, then I'll use the vendor again and I'll refer it to my family and friends. If not, then I'll stay away. But I do understand the importance of it, and the service and professionalism from Smith Electrical Contractors are worth the time to write up a review. Recently, I needed a professional electrician to install a Tesla Wall Charger. Like most people, the first place to go was Yelp. I came across Smith Electrical Contractors and read their reviews. Everyone had nothing but very positive things to say about the company, their owner (Dave) and their employees. Indeed, it was impressive. I contacted them to schedule an appointment and received a quote for the installation. Initially, I thought the quote was a little higher than I had expected. But they do need to pull a permit to make it legit and it's worth the price if it's done correctly. Plus, I have a business of my own, so I understand that they need to be profitable to keep a business in operation. Most other people probably don't care. Anyway, I made a $100 initial deposit over the phone to have someone come out and physically inspect my electrical panel and appliances to measure load to ensure that my electrical panel could support the additional pull for my EV Charger. The process was quite simple. However, it took about a week before the install could occur because we had to wait for the charger to arrive. On the day of the installation, Dave's employees came 20 minutes early. I really like that! They introduced themselves, explained what they were going to do and completed the job in less than 1.5 hours. The city inspector showed up shortly after and inspected the work. Based on my positive experience, I highly recommend Smith Electrical Contractors to anyone who is searching for an electrician that has a 5-star rating on social media for their services, professionalism and quality of work. I used Smith Electrical to install a wall charger for my new Tesla and could not be more satisfied with the service. I initially tried another recommended contractor, who asked for a picture of my electrical panel and quickly asserted that I needed a new panel and referred me to SDG&E. I submitted an online survey, waited for a week or so, only to find out that SDG&E would be out to survey my panel in four weeks or so. At this point, I called Smith Electrical. I got an appointment within 2-3 days where an electrician came out to complete a load survey. He took a look at the panel and then carefully recorded the power requirements of the big appliances in my house (A/C, refrigerator, pool equipment, etc). As it turns out, there is plenty of capacity in my existing panel and only needed to reorganize the circuit breakers to make room. I had an appointment within a week for the installation. On install day, the electrician (Joseph) arrived early which was not a problem for me. He quickly had the wall charger installed, re-labeled the breakers with the new layout, arranged the inspection for the same time slot, and completed the job in less than two hours. Joseph was very professional and having installed many Tesla wall chargers, was very competent and did a great job. Really great work by Cosmo! He installed our ceiling fan on a sloped ceiling and added canned lights to our hallway. Showed up on time and even though there was a challenge with the ceiling fan due to a fire block, he worked until it was done right and even apologized a few times that he didn't get it completed quicker. He also helped us to decide where the canned lights should go and they look great. I highly recommend and we'll use them again for future projects. read more

We recently purchased an electric vehicle, and Smith Electrical were one of the electricians recommended to us by the vehicle manufacturer, to install a home charging point. We contacted them and one other electrician. Dave Smith (CEO and owner of the company) came to our home himself to assess the installation and provide a free estimate. His quote was very comparable to his competitor - in the range of $1,000 for a fully permitted installation. We decided to go with Smith Electrical, because they were offering solid conduit which seemed more sturdy than the flexible conduit proposed by the other electrician. Additionally, Dave was very knowledgeable about the process and confidently assessed our electrical system, which is in an older home and has been complicated by several remodels. The whole process with Smith was highly satisfactory. They communicated very well with us, and also with each team member involved. They arrived on time for the installation, the work was carried out carefully, tidily and conscientiously. Cleanup was immaculate. Inspection by the City was arranged very quickly and the installation was approved immediately. The office staff are friendly, helpful and responsive. I had a tesla wall mount installed through Smith Electrical and everything went smoothly until the wall mount stopped working. I contacted them again and they quickly came to my rescue to test the unit to find out that it was the tesla unit itself had gone bad. These guys do great work but the customer service is even better. I asked them to install a NEMA 14-50 outlet for my new Tesla Model X. To make a long story short, there was a mix up on the day my outlet was to be installed. I thought it was Thursday, they thought it was Friday. I took the morning off and called their office when no one showed up on Thursday. Their CEO, Dave Smith, personally dealt with my situation. He pulled someone in my area off another job to come to my house on Thursday to make up for the confusion. It's not a very common thing for a CEO to take responsibility for an individual customer's situation and, as a CEO, I really appreciate it. As for all the other stuff, the work was perfect, the price reasonable, and the workers professional and friendly. Can't ask for much more. I needed a new electrical panel on my house. Since they had a lot of work to do, they gave me a timeframe of 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. When they arrived, they explained what they would be doing and advised me how long the power would be off. They told me what the entire process would entail. They were on time, did a great job, left the area cleaner than it was, and continually asked me if I had any questions. They thoroughly answered all my questions. They left just before the end of the timeframe and once again asked to answer any questions I might have. Smith was the contractor for my electrical panel upgrade, taking a 1964 100-amp panel up to 200 amps with a solar inverter. The entire experience was perfect and professional. From the scheduling to the pre-visit checklist to the technician who performed the work, everything was extremely professional. I could even tell that the SDG&E inspector respected their work. The technician began by introducing himself by shaking my hand, telling me his name and why he was here, and handing me a business card. The guy who works here was really helpful! I originally came in for a garage door opener and he had it for cheaper than the other place that I got it from which is super great! I also asked if he sold the alarm for my car because I lost the buttons to unlock it and luckily he did! So I was able to get a new car key and he installed it for me. These guys did a service upgrade to 200 amps on my home. They did a great job. It was on time and looked great. 6 months after the work was done I got a letter from the city saying the permit had not had its final done and would require a new permit to be paid for because the first one had expired. When I called Smith electric they said they would take care of everything within a week and they did. They sent me a copy of the permit signed off by the city when it was all final and completed with the city done. These guys ROCK and I will use them again. read more

As a Union a Electrician which I properly went to an apprenticeship with proper training I can say for the short term that I was employed with them I feel Smith Electric hires new hires and puts them through a mini training class most of the electricians that work there aren't Certified and are electrical trainee's certified by Ca easy to get a trainee cert. I can't believe Solar City actually uses them. I hope cheer shops will start to see the quality of Smiths work l. Recently Smith Electric implemented a Forman man power to handle the owners work load to take care of quality control but you can't hire someone and train them into an electrician in 2 weeks it takes 5 year apprenticeship to become a certified electrician. read more
