True NC pork BBQ, southern style fried chicken, fried shrimp, boiled butter potatoes, colla greens, mac and cheese and cole slaw. EVERYTHING was good. The only let down was the mac and cheese. We were hoping for a baked mac and cheese but it was more of a velveeta style rou mac and cheese. Still good, just not what was pictured or what we prefer. This is a super easy stop off int. 95, maybe a mile off the exit. We will most definitely be stopping in every year as we head south. I would suggest you do the same!

On 12-20-23 Me and my Co-workers went to Smithsield's Chicken on Patriot Way for lunch, as we tried to have our meals it was so frustrating to continue to hear the manager constantly yelling at the workers, when they were all working and doing their jobs. Talk about a power trip! we were there 40-45 minutes, and this behavior never stopped! we would start a conversation when he would go outside, which he did quite a bit, but as soon as he'd come back in, he would start up again, so eventually this became our conservation and we decided that if our boss talked to us that way and treated us that disrespectful, we would walk off and let him have it all to himself. Kudos to the great crew there and the great food, however we will choose a better atmosphere next time. read more

I have loved this place since going through the drive-thru, at the previous location, when I was a child riding with my mother. The food had always been delicious. So I was a little questionable about the new location, if there quality of food and service would carry over. My experience has been that both are as good as ever! And I would like to highlight an employee, who's name is Elaine. She has the sweetest demeanor, and serves with the upmost kindness. I'm 76 years old, a North Carolina native and I've eaten BBQ from Murphy to Manteo!! Smithfied's is as good as any I've eaten anywhere!! Food, service and prices are excellent. Also, the food is consistent from city to city. I must have eaten at ten different locations. Prior to the Greensboro opening my wife and I would drive 60 miles round trip to the Mebane location. No finer place for Southern fried chicken, hush puppies, and sweet tea. The barbecue's pretty good too. Always great food and always great service and I usually only go at the busiest of times - lunch or dinner on the dot. It may look and feel like a fastfood place but they'll bring tea and ask how your meal is. read more

We had lunch at this White Swan to start an early kickoff to the weekend. The restaurant was mostly full when we arrived, which we hoped meant the food was much better than the dingy interior. I tried a BBQ sandwich with slaw and an order of yams. My sandwich had a generous serving of eastern NC BBQ with slaw. The BBQ was OK, but nothing special and I would not be surprised to learn the slaw was purchased somewhere else. My yams, however, were served warm and very good. I also received a few hushpuppies which would have been excellent if they had been served hot, but they were cold. My dining companion tried the "steak sandwich" and fried squash. The "steak" turned out to be a fried chuckwagon patty which would have been better if served right out of the fryer but was OK. She thought the squash, clearly fresh and just cooked, was very good. You stand in line to place your order and as expected these days, they suggest all sorts of generous tips for themselves. All the employees were friendly and clearly aiming to please. If you eat in they bring your food to the table and if you get it to go, they call your order out when its ready. You're expected to clean your table when you leave and they are kind enough to leave a bucket with rags soaked in sanitizer to clean make sure the table is ready for the next customer, even though they already hit you up for a tip when you ordered. This is a low 3-star BBQ restaurant. It's not bad, but there's better to be had not too far away.

The window and windowsills had plenty of evidence hygienic practices weren't their strong suit: Remnants of what appeared to be days-old hush puppies, pulled pork and perhaps green beans (?) were visible along the window sills and the bench seats were long past their prime which made the mere time someone had invested into the wall decor and cosmetics perplexing. It was very brief observation our food appeared via a very friendly young lady. ...In styrofoam containers with plastic utensils. Mildly reassuring the same people responsible for the dining room's cleanliness weren't also responsible for washing actual dishes and silverware. Being a Southerner, I could see the cabbage had not been seasoned with anything - Not so much a speckle of pepper nor an onion sliver. Forget a hint of fat back, hog jawl, or even a bacon grease sheen - So I asked for vinegar. Our server gave the option of regular vinegar or pepper vinegar, I chose the pepper and she returned with such rapidly. White vinegar with a pinch of red pepper flakes in a pre-portioned plastic container. Consequently, I will say the cabbage was very much so plain boiled cabbage and let me know this place isn't doing anything with whole hogs. Next up, the tater salad. It was more so tater bits, not actual cubes of boiled taters - with sugar(?), some scant flakes - Yes, flakes! - of red onion, a whisper of an egg yolk and definitely not Duke's or Blue Plate Mayo. No celery, no pickles, no identifiable parts it was just cold mashed potatoes covered in a runny egg/maybe knock off Miracle Whip and cheap mayo blend and takes the award for being the absolute worst "potato salad" I have ever eaten. Noticing all the nods to Christ and Jesus being Lord and Savior all I could think was, "Amen. I hope this doesn't make me sick." The fried chicken? Straight outta a US Foods or Sysco wholesaler. Really strange considering it's an unobstructed easy WALK to the adjacent Food Lion where someone could buy lard, chicken, flour and seasonings to do up some yard bird. It was clearly nothing battered there in house and the nail in the coffin was those hush puppies. Those tasted like a Temu version of hush puppies someone would fry up after frying fish with an odd mix of House of Autry breading with sugar added. The service was great. And a lot of effort was placed into the walls. The food was unfit for a nursing home picnic and in preparing for the rapture Stormin Norman's would not be a place I'd recommend for a potential Last Supper. May Jesus take your wheel to a different restaurant.

The pudding is a touch too sweet and I could have done with more bananas but it was large enough to share. The staff is genuinely happy to see you and are happy to talk about their work, if you like. The room is a bit bare bones and the bathrooms are rudimentary and cramped but everything works. There is parking directly in front of the restaurant. Thanksgiving take-out is available for pre-order (see photo). I have a strong feeling you won't go wrong with any of the choices.
