Great prices, friendly crew that really hustles your drinks and food. The best fries I've eaten in a long time. Others in my party really enjoyed their burgers and monster chicken fingers. Book a cinema for 20 people with all the popcorn and soda you care to consume for $250 with the movie of your choice! Grateful they are still operating during the pandemic.

A great place to watch a movie, comfortable, relaxing, and a pleasant movie experience.

Smitty's was a real joy to go to, you sit in a cafeteria type set up, extremely comfortable in business captains chairs. Good can be ordered before or during the movie and is served to you. It's quite the movie experience, would highly recommend Smitty's and will go back again soon! :) You need to come and see and experience it for yourself!

My husband and I came here after hearing our friends talk about it. I personally didn't like the movie, but that's not the theaters fault. I've never been to a theatre that actually has waiters coming to serve you whatever you need. All you have to do is put your menu up and they come and ask you what you want. We got buffalo tenders and waffle fries. The buffalo tenders were HOT but I liked them and the waffle fries are great, but I'm biased to waffle fries. We didn't get any alcohol, but I wanted to try the X-wing, sounded yummy! Our waiter was super friendly and checked up on us just enough to not distract us from the movie. The bathrooms were sparkling clean. I definitely think if they updated the seating to something a little more comfier than office chairs they'd be able to seriously compete with other theaters. There is actual movie theatre seating available, but I would think it's hard to eat food there. They offer great discounts on certain days of the week and give free popcorn to military members. All in all, I'd come check this place out. Prices are reasonable and you won't go bankrupt if you want a box of candy ($3 for snow-caps, I mean seriously!!?? That's cheap!!)

Things I like: Good prices, friendly staff. That's it. Things I don't like: The food. This is your typical bar food. Nothing of substantive quality. Not sure what else I expected, but I would stick with the usual popcorn with my movie. Another aspect some people like, but I don't, are the reclining chairs. Are they big and soft? Yes, but we sat at tables, which means they roll around. They're basically big office chairs that you have to stabilize yourself on. I don't mind office chairs, but trying to lean back, eat your food, and watch a movie while balancing is not fun. I know a lot of people like this theater, but I am not a fan. I'll be going somewhere else for my movies.

So came here after a lot of mixed suggestions from friends at work, some said it's a no go and some said it's the best thing since sliced bread, so I finally decided to try it out for myself. I'm a huge movie buff and it's awesome cause I love food and more specifically my movie snacks even more. I've honestly never seen anything like this place anywhere before, definitely not back home in MD, but I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed my experience to the upmost, the staff was beyond friendly and accommodating and there's a lot to do here if you come with a group of friends or bring the kids. The food and drink selection is very broad, pretty much anything you're in the mood for you can have lol. But the wife and I stuck with a large popcorn, some bomb waffle fries and buffalo tenders and of course I had to get my snow caps and some diet Coke's. Don't expect this food to be top notch 5 star quality but I'll tell ya it hits the spot for sure haha. Only reason I won't give it a 5 star is it's a little outdated and the seating isn't the comfiest for movie viewing but hey I highly recommend it and it's kind of apart of there thing and the experience they offer so I loved it....side note we saw the movie glass, pretty good if you care haha

I have been a long time patron of this theater. 20+ years. I've seen many owners, tons of changes, the scare that was Covid-- but one thing was always consistent besides the fresh popcorn. The staff. Many of us know who I'm talking about. The projectionist- Gracia- was there for longer then I had been a patron. She ran that place from the ground up. She even crowd funded (which I supported) purchasing the theater in 2019 before it was sold from under her. She was the bones the bread and the butter of that place. It was a labor of love and watching her adapt over the years and be so consistent was such a joy. Along with her awesome t shirts. This year there was yet another change of ownership. And I have come to learn that she was discarded like her 25 years of service meant nothing. And not only that, I was lied to that she left on her own. Which isn't the case. They also let go another staff member that has disabilities but a whole lot of heart. Sam was the light of my weekend. They worked there 12 years. My heart is heavy. This place was much more than a cinema. It was community. And now it just feels cold. I will not be returning.

Great popcorn and self serve "butter" area if it's something you are interested in. I was not. There were a few people that were partaking. Decent soda mix. The room we were in had plenty of room in the aisles. both the center aisle and the seated aisle. Even when reclined, you can get by someone to get to your seat. I was surprised to see how small lobby was. It gets crowded by concession stand pretty quickly. Despite the crowds, the staff at concessions was really nice. I took away a star, because the restrooms were horrible. They were dark and it appeared there was stuff smeared on the stall walls that looked like it wasn't 'new" - I gagged the whole time. Ugh Parking - easy and plentiful.

I noticed it a while back; this place was definitely loved hard over the past decade plus, so it's nice to see these upgrades! This is still my go-to theater: 1) I like the ease of choosing my seat and ordering my ticket online ahead of time. We've never had an issue or glitch with this. We just show up, use the little machine to scan our barcode, and it's as easy as that. 2) I like the annual Premium Popcorn Pail deal (even if the bucket is 20% smaller than it used to be). We always trade ours in at the end of the year/beginning of the new year for some kind of genuinely decent promotional deal. On average, throughout the year of using it it seems it costs us anywhere between $11 and $17 to get it filled and get one large soda (that we could get unlimited refills on if we could be bothered to leave the theater). 3) The "luxury power recliners" themselves are, for me at least, bigger and more comfortable than some of the couches I've owned. I crawl into my seat, hit the button, up go my feet, back goes my upper half, and I'm immersed in a cloud of comfort (without annoying anyone the way this same action does on a plane). And they're SPACIOUS: I can have my jacket in my seat next to me, my purse, my food... and there's still room. 4) I like that they show old movies!!! TAKE MY MONEY, I want to see Jaws here every summer. 5) FREE movie on your birthday (all you need is your ID to prove it's your big day)! Admittedly, during really busy times, it could use some additional TLC: 1) The soda area can get quite wet and sticky. 2) The bathroom trash bins are often overflowing (and actually, I think that's on you, future customer. Can you please just kind of push your towel down into the bin instead of laying it on top of it?). 3) Why are the bathroom stalls SMALLER than airplane bathrooms? I'm a small person, and I still have to contort my body to close the door. Still, it's comfortable and (mostly) clean and the staff working here can be really charming and goofy and I love that because THAT'S what a movie theater staff should be.

Tonight's screening of The Dark Knight featured: - The lamp going dim at several points - The picture not being centered on the screen - The first reel prematurely ending after a period of dimness - Volume so low that we had to crane our necks to hear what the characters said - Out of focus picture - Very little contrast - The trailer reel wasn't shown - no Watchmen trailer! - Air conditioner so loud that it overpowered the already low sound Now, I would have been comfortable donating money to see the movie and feeling like I was doing a good deed for an ailing theater, but when you charge an admission to a movie there is, on the audience's part, an expectation of a certain experience - namely, being able to see and hear the movie. The only thing that kept us from walking out was the sheer awesomeness of the movie itself.

You could walk into this theater and never talk to or see an employee. I bought my ticket online, walked directly into the building, and freely to/from my screen without ever needing to show any proof that I had even bought a ticket. Which, like, as an introvert was amazing. But I'm pretty sure I could have stayed there all day bopping in and out of whatever movie I wanted (this was true for a midday, weekday screening, anyway). 3. The bathrooms here are not super clean, but they are super small. 4. If you're seeing a movie that's quieter, artsy, or dialogue-driven and the theater adjacent to yours is showing an action, adventure, or horror movie... that's the movie you're going to hear and experience. The bass absolutely overtakes everything. 5. It doesn't actually get that dark in these theaters. Because this cinema has stadium seating (where the seats go up platform by platform instead of going down a gradual slope), the safety lighting on the wall sort is sort of always in your periphery. One of Portland's treasures, the Nick has been operating in the Old Port for over 40 years, and screens mainstream indie films as well as current blockbusters. The garage next door is a sure thing if you're not into street parking, just know it's closed on Sundays. I probably see a dozen or so films a year at The Nick--I like to see all of the Academy Award nominated films, and this is the place to catch all of the best picture nominees. In the past few weeks I've seen I'm Still Here, Nickel Boys, and The Brutalist at the Nick. A great experience every time--I've walked right up to buy tickets with only one party or two parties in line, at most. The selection concessions offered is reasonable, and includes vegan options. Seats are comfortable, however, they aren't the giant recliners offered at the big corporate cineplexes. Also, you can buy tickets in advance, but you are not able to reserve a particular seat. This is a old school sort of cinema, and yes, the bathrooms are upstairs. They are clean, and you can say hello to Audrey Hepburn on the large Breakfast at Tiffany's poster on your way down the stairs. People really seem to enjoy $6 ticket Tuesdays. Otherwise, tickets are $10 for a matinee and $13 for an evening ticket, less for children and seniors. The Nickelodeon is one of my favorite places in Portland, one of the few institutions that's managed to stand the test of time, and I hope it is able to stay around for another 40 plus years.
