Don't even waste your time going here, he unfairly changes pricing due to what he wants it to be and what HE thinks is a good price in the moment, they were going to drag the car on their truck in park and ruin the transmission,drivetrain, etc. because they didn't know how to shift it and I guess didn't care to figure out how to shift it into neutral. The older guy on the phone has been nothing but rude and unkind since the first time I even spoke with them I'd just save your time and money on their overpriced services if you can it's not alright how they speak to people. read more

Terrible experience. Towed my car before 10 at a no overnight parking place and I was there right at 10:00. Ridiculous.

This man is a thief and a liar and a crook and he destroyed my car! Had my car towed by Durham Police, it was brought to Smitty's. Buddy was a real piece of sh*t the entire time dealing with him. I paid the lot fees and for a tow to have it dropped off in Dover and he dropped my car incorrectly and damaged the vehicle causing all of the oil to spill out. On top of this he took the liberty to rummage and entirely search through my car and made it a complete mess. Refused to pay for the damages and suggested I "get an attorney". Hm. Contrary to many of the reviews on here, I had an excellent experience with Smitty's Towing. They came very quickly, and were able to tow my car that was sitting in a tight spot when Bob's Automotive & Wrecking were not able to. My experience was great, no complaints. read more

Quick and easy even helped me with windshield wiper fluid that wasn't coming out, and helped me get all the snow off the car from sitting in the back tow lot. Visiting my son in UNH, car was towed. I went down to Smitty's to pick it up. The car is a BMW M5. 1st they towed it on a regular truck, should have been a flat bed. I get there and the driver states my car is leaking oil. He showed me the car and said he might have done this while towing it. I looked under the car and there was a puncture hole in the oil cooler. The car was not drivable at this point so I had to take an Uber home to MA. When the BMW Dealer called me, they said I needed a new oil cooler and pump, 6k worth of work. I called Smitty's to see if they would cover it. The manager said they are not responsible for damage if the city or police call in a tow. So I was stuck paying for a tow and repairing my car, CRAZY. My 17 year old daughter had to call him as her car got towed. When he called her back he kept cutting her off and being completely rude then hung up on her. He should not be dealing with females or college students. I called him myself and he kept doing the same to me. We are not from the area and simply needed to know where to go and what to do as she was alone. I would not recommend this man and am shocked he's allowed to talk to children. read more

Ruthless workers. Moved son into UNH, not completely sure of the campus and stressed on moving him in. Smitty workers sitting in Hannaford's parking lot waiting for UNH parents and children to move in (Hannaford's is inside campus) to walk across the street so they can tow new, incoming students. Heartless and greedy. Staking out unexpecting new student's parents to tow. We were gone 15 minutes getting his Student ID because the street in front of MUB building was blocked off. This place operates a PREDATORY TOWING SCAM!They sit and watch for people that don't go directly from car into store regardless if person is a customer or not. They immediately tow vehicles and charge $155 for you to get your car back. This is how they make their living. Unscrupulous and unethical yet somehow tolerated. The people than run this scam intimidate people and verbally harass people by literally yelling at them and telling them they are "stealing" a parking spot, that they are what's wrong with this country, and are playing the victim card. My son who is a student at UNH brought his car in for a inspection. They failed it due to it needed a CV axel replaced. They then proceeded to quote him $2300 to replace the axel. The price of the part they quoted was over $1700. I knew this wasn't right when my son called due to we had one done a year ago on another car. I looked up the part and I can buy it for $89. Labor is 7 bolts and about a hour labor. It is clear to me they prey on college students because most probably would not have any idea that they were being screwed. I suggest that people read the other reviews here and avoid doing business here. read more

Horrible place. I'd give them 0 stars if i could. They towed my car yesterday, I called and the guy who answered the phone told me he'd be back to the shop in 10-15 minutes. 15 minutes later I called again, because I wasn't sure if there was anyone on site. The guy who answered- the same person as before- told me he'd be there in 10 minutes. 40 minutes after that second phone call ended, the guy finally showed up. The whole time I was stuck waiting outside for him. When he finally arrived, he was rude, angry, and overall just not a nice person to be around. He charged me $200 to get my car back, even after he was 40 minutes later than he said he would be, leaving me waiting outside the building for him. This is a truly horrible business, and I'd never willingly go here for any reason, ever. read more

I think something must have changed since all the bad previous reviews because my first encounter with them was excellent. I am a property manager and had a large Uhaul truck blocking my building entry area so I called Smitty's to have it towed. Mike came out right away, but ended up not being able to tow it because the truck was too large. He offered to hang around for a while with his lights flashing in case anyone around the area noticed and would come move the vehicle. He offered to call other tow companies who could handle it. He then encountered the driver, who did come out, and called me to discuss. He even called me back the next day to apologize for missing a text I had sent after the event. Really professional and went above and beyond! I will definitely be using them in the future! read more

UPDATE: They are still lying, cheating, and terrible people. They rip off college students with exorbitantly high towing prices - the Attorney General Office of NH should look into this. This company towed my car, I went to talk to them and was faced with a rude, angry man. I understood the guy just wanted money to release the car, I asked to use the phone he didn't want to help me he told me I don't want to deal with this this morning, go figure it, it goes up 200 dollars at 4pm" Fair enough, this guy deals with a lot of disgruntled people, I am sure he has to have some tough skin. When I got my car, the bumper was hanging off and the frame was damaged. Its one thing to have bad customer service its another thing to not even be able to handle the job with care. The amount of effort it would take to go to court, ensuring they would pay for the damage they caused to my car, furthering my involvement with these unprofessional and rude people, isn't worth it. Not believing it was true because it had been inspected in Maine only 5 months before, I brought it to my hometown mechanic. Wouldn't even give this business a star. They circled the town looking to toe people and charge them $170 for being parked somewhere for not even five minutes. When you get work done here they up charge you for the simplest things because this town makes no income in the summer. This is by far one of the worst aspects of Durham New Hampshire. I had these jokers fix my Saab Turbo back when I was a student when I was a UNH. Paid him about a grand to fix some wiring - the day I picked up the car it died in the middle of the highway on 95 in Maine because he wired it sloppily, and then he wouldn't stand by my work. It was one of the worst auto repair experiences of my life. Luckily SaabTech sorted it out for me. Stay away from this clown. read more

If I could give 0 stars i would. I told them i needed to be towed asap and then they said 30 min. I called after 30 min and they said another 20. I waited another hour until calling again and he said he got "distracted" and one would be on its way shortly. I called after another 30 min and still no one was there so I called back and they said one was on their way. I was walking back periodically checking the parking lot to see if they were there. After a total of 3 hours have gone by I called again and the man rudely told me that they came and I wasn't there so they left even though they did not try to contact me whatsoever. He then proceeded to rudely talk to me about how its my fault that i wasn't at my car the whole time. This guy is a clown, along with his pathetic excuse of a business. I found out this Saturday morning (9/13/14) that my car had been towed by this clown between the hours of 3AM and 9AM. Really? I was visiting a friend at the University of New Hampshire and I guess I parked in a "PERMIT ONLY" parking spot, despite there being NO SIGN or ANY indication whats-so-ever that I could not park there. I also thought maybe it wouldn't be a problem considering the fact that I parked in the empty spot at 3AM and planned to leave right at 9:00AM that same day, but like everything now a days I guess this was a problem. Upon Calling "Smitty's" I explained my situation and asked to get my car back. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. It's as if it was a problem for him to meet up with me at HIS lot to open the gate in order for me to get my car out. He told me he would meet me there in 10 minutes, which ended up being 30. When I asked how much it would cost to have my car released to me he said "$120 cash only" I take it as if this guy is trying to avoid paying taxes by not accepting debit/credit card? I told him I needed to go to the ATM to get him his $120 and he quickly replied "You have 5 minutes, I need to be somewhere" I could only assume he was off to ruin yet another person's morning. After getting Smitty his cash, my car was released with noticeable damage on the front and rear end. AVOID THIS GUY AT ALL COSTS! ALSO, the garage attached to his "Towing service" is known for charging ransom for unprofessional work. My experience with this business was laughable. My car was towed (rightly so), but the self proclaimed boss "on call after hours" at Smitty's made the retrieval process so mind-numbingly difficult that I was literally convinced I was being Punk'd. My conversations with him on the phone were not only a paradigm of unprofessionalism, but reflected the conversational capacity of a hangry toddler. I asked, Is my car at your business? His response, "Don't know, why don't you drive there and check yourself." I can't drive sir, I don't have a car. "That sucks, neither do I. I have a truck." (I walk to Smitty's, my car is there, I call back). Sir, let's be productive. Should I wait until tomorrow to get my car? "No." What do you suggest I do then? After I call this man no less than 10 times total- and he intermittently ignores the calls, or briefly answers and spews aggressive, unproductive utterances- he finally calls back, suggests we meet and strolls in to Smitty's late (admittedly, in much better spirits face to face). He claims he has no memory of our prior conversations due to exhaustion, shows off his tattoos and uses profanity including (but not limited to) words like "r*tarded," "f*cking" and "p*ssed off." I get my car back for $175. This nonsensical performance was borderline comedic, but was ultimately an offensive waste of my time. If you can help it, park in the right spot and avoid this place. read more
