Unfortunately we dd not have a good experience at Smitty's. My wife and I decided to spend a special evening at Smitty's. I received my meal timely, but my wife never received her meal. The server kept saying it was coming out but it never did. After asking for the manager, the meal finally came out, approximately 20-30 minutes after mine. The manager tried to remedy by comping the drinks but the damage was done and our evening was ruined. Truly disappointed after hearing so many good thing about the restaurant. read more

We had a great experience last night for dinner at Smitty's. The ambiance is nice but the service and food were the real stars. Johnny was our waiter and he deserves more stars than yelp allows. Same goes for the food. We had sandwiches. A cheeseburger and their prime rob french dip. Both sandwiches were amazingly tasty and fulfilling. The our waiter mentioned the key lime pie. It was a huge piece and better than zny of the key lime pies that I've eaton before. The Smith brothers have continued to provide great food and service at all of their restaurants. It is always a treat to eat here. I wish that we didnt live so far away but will certainly return. The menu is smaller than in the past ( no more liver n onions) but worth the drive. read more

Came in last night with my good friend, it was my first time here. She had made reservations for 6:00 pm., the hostess that sat us had a lovely smile and was friendly and kind. We started our dinner with a bottle of white wine. The wine was chilled to perfection and they also brought a bucket of ice to keep our wine cold! My friend knew a lot of the staff here and many came to our table to say hello and greet her. The GM came by to say hello and made us feel welcomed and right at home. Our server Paul was so personable and attentive! He had an awesome smile and kept coming back to check on us. He made wonderful suggestions on the menu and we had an awesome dinner! Service 5/5 - Very attentive and friendly front of house staff. Nice detailed explanations and recommendations. Food is ready rather quickly for the quality. 3-5 minutes between order and appetizer, 1-3 minutes between first course and main course, 1-3 minutes between ordering and desert. They clear your table very quickly. Visuals 3/5 - dim lighting, cozy setting, good decoration. Overall nice and simple vibes. Subtly lets you focus on the food Audio 3/5- Not much music, lots of chatters. You can talk with some privacy. Smell 4/5- Surprisingly not a lot of food smell. Good ventilation. The edible part: 4/5 overall nice and clean presentation. No fancy decorations, but that's what makes it fancy. Generous portions that match the pricing. Hot plate for main course, ice cold plate for dessert. It's not life-changing delicious, but very enjoyable nonetheless. Roughly 14oz) $51: 4/5 My cut was on the leaner side, but still very enjoyable. I ordered medium-rare and I got exactly what I wanted. The au jus and creamy horse raddish are mild and do not overpower the meat even if you completely cover the meat with them. The texture is more "roasted beef" than "steak." The tendons and the lean parts are not tough, and the fat is not overwhelming. Even the edges are tasty. It is very tender. No sides by default but that's ok. Creme Brulee $12: 4/5 I thought it was going to be a cute little cup, but it was more like a soup bowl. The berry flavored syrup goes very well with the custard. The sugar is crystalized very evenly, so there is no overly burnt bitter parts. Virgin Margarita $7: 3/5. SWEET. VERY SWEET. Decent flavor otherwise. Conclusion: If you have $100+ to spare, treat yourself to a nice 3 course dinner expreience here. We have loved the Smith Brother's restaurants for decades, especially Smitty's. But, something is wrong. We went tonight for my wife's 50th birthday. We were the first at the restaurant at 5 pm. We got a great table. Our food-server was nice, but, honestly not very good, which is not all his fault. He never told us the specials. Although we were some of the only people in the restaurant, he would disappear for extended periods of time. I finally had to waive someone down for another glass of wine. He never came over during our meal to ask how things were. It really irritated us, but I think most of the fault rests on management. There seemed to be no manager in charge, particularly one who would focus on service to customers. As for the food, my fried chicken (which I've had innumerable times) was absolutely wonderful in every way. A treasure of the city. My cup of Chile was equally scrumptious as was the famous cornbread and honey with the chicken. My wife was less impressed with the meatloaf, which she found lacked the taste of meat.... Feeling kinda abandoned, we decided not to have dessert there, and went home. If we were in France, where dinners are prolonged affairs and customers are ignored by waiters as a matter of course, we would have been fine. But, here, where good service matters, we were let down and decided we would not go back to Smitty's anytime soon. However, we will be trying Arroyo Chop house soon, and hope that it hasn't had a terrible slide in service like Smitty's. read more

I don't make it to Pasadena too often but when I do it's nice to check on places that are worth the trip there. Smitty's Grill advertises themselves as "American Comfort Food at it's Best" and after my visit here I think I tend to agree with that statement. The restaurant skews towards an older clientele who I would guess are comfortable with a more classic restaurant style, with more subdued lighting, photos/remembrances on the walls, low key stylish touches, cloth-covered tables, and the like. The menu has a lot of familiar American dishes, but there is enough variety that you're bound to find something to your taste. Our server recommended the Iron Skillet Cornbread (http://bit.ly/2xarGsR). Good recommendation. The cornbread came out hot, in an iron skillet - so, truth in advertising. Very good, though it was a little too much on the sweet side for me and I felt no need to add any of the honey that was provided on the side. The Seafood Cioppino Stew (http://bit.ly/2XTV6HD) was a classic fish stew with mussels, clams, shrimp, white fish, and probably some other seafood. Everything was very fresh and good tasting. The broth was the best part and I found myself just scooping that up with my spoon. For dessert, I tried the Apple Walnut Bread Pudding (http://bit.ly/2MVtNvn), which came out perfectly. Moist, but not too moist, and full of flavor. Literally the worst bar service ever! I cancelled our dinner reservation, This is a nusring home and I was so embarassed to have taken my date here. We waited 14 minutes to get a glass of wine. We have been going to Smitty's for about 10 years. We stopped going because it lost its personality and charm. You used to be welcomed and taken care of in a personalized way, and the last 5 visits, we felt like the caring atmosphere was lacking. The valet is great. He is a wonderful man and works hard. The food is good when prepared correctly to the order. The service has been lacking attention and the host stand feels like they are bothered by guests. The FOH needs attention paid to it. There are many other restaurants around Pasadena and Altadena that have wonderful food, drink, and service; so why give up quality service for a fond memory of Smitty's? The consistency of service issues has given us enough reason to move on. read more

Pie crust was the size of a medium pizza. Flavor was excellent. Nice thick sauce, big chunks of chicken and vegetables. Homemade goodness. Being a vegetarian, my daughter had the chickpea pot pie and found it equally tasty. The chicken piccata was ok, however, overall we found light on flavor. It needed a bit more tanginess and more lemon zest or capers. It was quite tame. It could also benefit by including some angel hair pasta. The tangy key lime pie was on point. A neighborhood gem. Really a gem anywhere, it's a little bit "old-school" feel, and has a nice menu with diverse options that should satisfy anybody in a party. My wife cannot divert from the chicken pot pie which is pretty amazing. It's large enough that I can get whatever sounds good and maybe get a few bites while she's not looking. Such a treat. Ribs are pretty excellent, fish dishes I've tried are great and love their soups and salads. Always delicious and fresh. There is a very good wine list with some great choices available by the glass and a well-stocked bar with some excellent cocktails. Can't go wrong there. I really like this place and have bookmarked it for a return visit. The interior is somewhat dark and romantic, but even though I was just with a friend, it was a comfortable, friendly place to eat. There are a variety of little booths, a few of them on a slightly elevated platform. It's right on Lake but you don't hear any noise once you're inside. Because it was our first time there, they brought us an entire cornbread! A whole, round delicious smelling cornbread. It was warm and flaky, great taste, if you like cornbread. Nice touch. (Regular price for the cornbread: $9) I had one of the specials, sole meuniere (with butter, lemon, capers, $24). It was EXQUISITE. Delicious taste, cooked exactly right, tender, light, and not too strong of a sauce. It came with delicious broccoli, which I love, with a butter sauce, and home fries-style potatoes. My dinner companion had the Rainbow Trout, $24. Again, cooked just right, with sides of steamed veggies and potatoes. Trout can be dry if not cooked right, but my friend said it was perfect. This is such a delightful place to have a meal. The food is good, the service is friendly but not overly solicitous, they go out of their way to be sure you're happy with what you have, and they always have your eye when you want something. We came in on today because of the carolers and they didn't even sing one song that we could hear. So surprising given the high caliber of Arroyo and Parkway. Charming restaurant with good comfort food. They are open for outdoor dining now. Good vibes in the patio with great classic music which creates an amazing dining experience. With Dine LA week, the restaurant offers their favorite dishes with great prices for dinner. The three main dishes for the Dine LA week menu include steak, baby back rib and trout fish. To started with, we ordered their famous corn bread on pan. I love their corn bread as it's crunchy and tasty. For the main, I chose the Trout dish from their DineLA week menu for $45 along with a soup and chocolate mouse dessert. That's a great deal. It's also a great value for the money as the trout tasted fantastic. The meat was tender and flavorful. My wife ordered their Rattle Snake baby back rib. The ribs were BBQ the right way with great sauce. I understand this is one of the favorites with their customers. The restaurant has excellent service. Our serving team was very kind and efficient. They consistently add water to our cup and clean the table after each dish was finished. Currently, the restaurant only offers valet parking for $5. No self parking for now. read more
