We had a great meal today at Nicks. The service from Max was 5 star. This is a beautiful restaurant with amazing entree's and sides. Expect to spend a few shiny pennies, but it's well worth the splurge. We went all out, and enjoyed the asparagus fries, some mocktails, and adult beverages to enjoy along side our steak dinners. We pretty much all ordered the Bistro Plate, and all loved it! All the meats were cooked perfectly, and the soup was amazing! That nights soup special was the ginger carrot. It was so well balanced, smooth, full flavored and all around perfect. My friend and I, also ordered a side of mashed potato, and again amazing and worth it. The whole meal was the perfect portion. My family and I have been coming here for years, which is why this experience was so disappointing. We visited on Father's Day and had a reservation for 7:45 PM. Unfortunately, despite having a reservation, we had to wait about 20 minutes because our table was not ready. We had specifically requested a booth and mentioned that we did not want to be seated at the Chef's Table, yet we were seated there anyway. There were four of us, and the space was extremely cramped. We were constantly bumping into each other's feet because there was so little room. We asked if it would be possible to move to another table, but we were told the restaurant was fully booked for the evening. On top of that, being seated directly next to the kitchen meant dealing with nonstop noise throughout our meal, which made it difficult to enjoy the experience. What was especially confusing was the concept of the "Chef's Table." If it's intended to provide a unique dining experience, we certainly didn't receive one. The chef never came out or interacted with guests, so it felt like we were simply seated in an uncomfortable location next to a busy kitchen. To make matters worse, my father ordered his steak well done, but it arrived medium rare. The steak had to be sent back and recooked, which further delayed our meal. Overall, this was the most disappointing experience we've had here. As longtime customers, we never expected the service and accommodations to fall so far below the standard we've come to expect. What was most frustrating was that no effort was made to address our concerns or offer any accommodation after multiple issues throughout the evening. We have always enjoyed dining here, which is why this experience was particularly upsetting. The staff are excellent, attentive and accommodating. It has a nice modern interior when entering. I have always loved the sandwiches (especially the prime dip) but went for the salmon this time. For appetizers, we ordered the spinach and artichoke dip as well as the crispy tuna. Crispy tuna was fantastic. The spinach and artichoke was very very rich but good. I loved the ambiance! It may be a little dark interior for some folks, but I felt like the lighting really set the mood. Perfect place for a catch up or even solo and/or date night. Shout out to Nick's for saving our Saturday lunch! My family and I originally had planned to go to Houston's, but they ended up being unable to accommodate our increased party size. It was an awkward time of day so a lot of the other restaurants were not open yet. I called Nick's and they quoted a 1.5 hour wait time for a party of 5, but thank GOODNESS they called me back about 30 mins later saying they had a table ready :) The restaurant had a nice upscale ambiance, and we were seated by the kitchen so we got to see the cleanliness and quality of ingredients. We were greeted by our waitress who took great care of us during the meal. We had two kids with us and even though they don't have a physical kids menu, our waitress was able to list off a few things they offer for kids - one of which included a kid's filet, how cute is that?? For my drink, I ordered the Crisp Martini. Although it was a good drink in theory, I prefer Houston's. My aunt ordered a cucumber colins which I had a sip of and also enjoyed. For our appetizer, we ordered plain sourdough with butter and the spinach & artichoke dip. Both were fantastic!!! Besides the dip being amazing, the salsa that accompanied it was also delicious. We also ordered the California salad to share which was the perfect balance of sweet, savory, and crunchy. For my mom, I ordered the French dip sandwich with a side of fries. The meat was incredibly tender and flavorful, and paired greatly with the au jus and horseradish sauce. The fries were crispy yet tender, and their ranch was also delicious. My mom and aunt shared the blackened mahi-mahi sandwich and the top sirloin. Both dishes were also great. Our kiddos also enjoyed their filet and buttered pasta. We put ourselves on the waitlist and were quoted an hour wait. After an hour and a half had passed, we inquired and they tried to tell us that they told us a 2 hour wait. (They didn't) in reality, I believe they forgot about us or didn't have us added to the waitlist correctly, or perhaps skipped us. They then told us we were "next" and we waited another 40 minutes being next in line. I understand that reservations must be seated in a timely way, but please just be honest about the wait. I have been waiting for my favorite soup to be in rotation. We tried asparagus fries, sirloin steak, Chilean seabass, pork ribs and cioppino. Everything tasted delicious. The only thing that we thought would be very special, the asparagus fries since its a signature of theirs just tasted regular like fried zucchini. Our server didn't seem to take our order accurately. The side dish we ordered at the beginning never came out. We had to ask three times before we finally received butter. We also requested ranch instead of blue cheese dressing due to a dietary preference, but it still came out as blue cheese, so we had to ask again. After our meal, we ordered a pizza to go for my husband, but it was brought out as dine-in instead, and we had to correct it again. Wow, this place was CROWDED on a Wednesday afternoon. I looked around to see the crowd and it was either business people or retirees. So the next time you come and think, "what the heck, why aren't people working??" There's your answer. Good thing the husband made a reservation just in case so we didn't have to wait. Although I do ask them to use Tito's versus Tequila. Tequila and I have not been friends for a while. It's no use airing our dirty laundry but Tequila has done me wrong. And if you are friends with Tequila let me steer you away by letting you know that Nick also has really good lemon drops...yes vodka again but it's not Tito's. It's some sort of citron vodka. Yum! Nick's has been around for a long time, and it has probably showed up to 90% of the restaurant searches for you as it had for me. We finally got a chance to try it out for a family birthday. Parking is easy as you can park at the lot behind Lake Ave. I would recommend making a reservation especially if visiting on the weekends. They do have a sign out front saying "Proper Attire Required." You'll see some people dressed to the nines, and some people dressed more casually - it is definitely a noticeable step up from Yard House so I do recommend coming prepared. What I did like about Nick's is that although it feels substantially fancier, it doesn't reflect on the menu price point. The food is not overly expensive where you feel like you're going to break your wallet, but they do offer a more premium menu. My husband and I shared 2 items - between the Bistro Plate and the prime rib dip. Honestly both were solid options, but I think I ended up liking the Bistro plate more since I didn't want to get my hands dirty. We did have a baby with us, and the restuarant is not as friendly with stroller as there aren't a lot of places to park it if you are dining on the first floor. There seems to be larger tables that could have accommodated the stroller upstairs, however it wasn't obvious whether if they had an elevator to get up there. The bathroom is also upstairs, which could be a challenge for those that are mobility limited. I could be wrong and they could have a bathroom downstairs that I just didn't notice! read more

Joined the Waitlist via Yelp - and upon reaching was told it would take ~45 mins to get seated (We were party of 2 and 1st on Waitlist ! ) They advised to get bar seating which we managed to find. We requested if we could order drinks at the bar but would prefer to be seated at the table for food. The hostess said they will try, but I doubt they did. Other than this hiccup of not getting a seat even after waiting for 40 minutes everything else here was great. The pizza was very good. Drinks were great , our bartender was awesome.
