I really enjoyed my first visit to Smitty's for dinner with gfs! I've been to the reputable Arroyo Chop House restaurant in the area, which is owned by the same owners. Valet parking in the back for $5. The restaurant is dim and lovely, and would be a nice date spot. There's also a large bar. Smitty's offers delicious American comfort food with items such as their Iron Skillet Cornbread, famous Chicken Pot Pie, Rattlesnake BBQ Baby Back Ribs, Crab Louie Salad, Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Mac & Cheese, and so much more to choose from! We also ordered their special carrot cake dessert, which was pretty good. Our server had forgotten our cornbread muffins during our dinner, so they brought us a complimentary order of extra muffins when we reminded the server about our original order. That was so kind. We appreciated the gesture greatly!!! My favorite dishes were the pot pie and salad, my least favorite was probably the chicken (some pieces were a bit on the dry side). Wow!! amazing service the waiters go above and beyond to ensure you have all you need and in a timely manner. My office and i came for an early Chrismas lunch and drinks and absolutely had a great time. The service was great and we loved the food very much. Pre pandemic this place was always 5 stars, but a little has been lost since. I think the service has declined a bit, particularly outside. The food is still very solid but if you sit on the patio, prepare for very long intervals with little to no interaction. Our food was sitting for a bit also, it seemed like. It took forever to get drinks but the bus boys are still on it. The fish is always good and fresh and well prepared. Hopefully we've just had an off night or two or a newer server or something. I had the prime rib plate with mashed potatoes and roasted carrots, only on the dinner menu. The plate was decent enough. The prime rib was tender and cooked just right. The mashed potatoes and carrots were okay and did not particularly stand out. I also had the Cesar salad, which was okay. For appetizers, we had the iron skillet cornbread, but it was rock hard. It wasn't all that great, so I recommend to skip out on it. Staff was very accommodating and nice. They happily refilled drinks and checked up on us periodically. The restaurant was decorated with an old world charm and had a 1950s or earlier look to it. Unless you valet park, parking is going to be a real pain here since they have a very small lot in the back that's mainly valet parking. The restaurant is off a very busy street, Lake Ave. I believe there's metered parking not too far away if you want to be on the frugal side. Overall, I think smitty's is acceptable. The food to the restaurant is certainly not cheap. Go for the cuts of meat and skip out on the appetizers if you want to get the most bang for your buck. Main dish of prime rib was good. A group of friends and I had wonderful dinner (9/15) after a fabulous performance of "CYRANO"! The menu is loaded with comfort foods. I think the biggest hitters were the homemade Chips and Pot Pie. Foolproof choice for a Saturday night. We went with regulars and maybe our service was influenced by familiarity but it was great! Luis was attentive, informative and described the specials in a way that I knew I was having the cowboy rib eye with the bleu cheese cream sauce. It was excellent. We were bringing our teen grandson for his first LA steakhouse experience and Smitty's didn't disappoint. He chose the New York strip and went about conquering it over the next 20 minutes or so! Winner! My wife had the chicken pot pie and was astonished by the size and thankful for the flavor and quality. The cioppino, striped bass and smokehouse burger received an affirmative nod from the regulars. With the rest of the table we had the beef carpaccio appetizer and crème brûlée for dessert. All done beyond expectations. The parting hugs from Judy, Judy, Judy was the only thing that exceeded the sweetness of the butterscotch pudding! Excellent place for dinner especially if you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary! Very nice with a good atmosphere! We always come here for their Prime Rib which is always done right! We like ours medium rare which is tender and pink! It comes with mashed potatoes and we ordered 2 sides. Vegetable of the season: grilled brussel sprouts with bacon which was delicious! And spinach with garlic was also very tasty! For some reason, we got french fries with our prime rib tonight! What a treat! Thin, skinny crispy french fries that were so addicting! We were completely satisfied so didn't order any dessert. But my daughter has had a delicious peach cobbler/crisp as a dessert which she has raved about so much!! It's been a few years since I frequented this restaurant. Unfortunately, the food was not very good and certainly not what remembered. I ordered green salad and Cioppino ( seafood stew) . The salad had the wrong dressing so I sent it back. They brought another but all they did was pour another dressing on top so it tasted really bad. The Cioppino was way too sweet and probably the worst I've ever had. My friend ordered meatloaf and mashed potatoes. She said both were not good. Snother friend ordered Chicken Picatta. She said the breading was too thick and the chicken was very thin. The appetizers were a bit better but not by much. Our waiter was friendly and responsive to our table but for the price, I would not go there again. They need a new chef! read more

Rude and Unaccommodating hostesses! I made reservations for a party of 2 and upon arrival we were told we could get seated early since we had arrived 30 min early. The place was pretty much empty so I asked to be seated in a booth or near a booth and the hostesses told me they couldn't seat me in either spot because they were reserved for people who requested to be seated inside yet I was one of those people. Instead they tried seating me outside which I refused. The hostess then proceeded to sit us next to the bar and behind their cleaning table which was an uncomfortable spot to sit at with all the traffic from the bar and waiters. Don't understand their seating logic at this place. Food Review: I ordered the trout plate that says it comes with seasonal vegetables (which to me means a medley) however, it only comes with 1 vegetable which is sautéed spinach. The trout was bland and to top it off comes with the skin. I would not recommend this place or come here again! read more

Short Review: A great local restaurant with a nice selection of food. Menu changes twice a year, so they try to keep it fresh. Wine selection is just ok, but I'm a wine snob so take that for what its worth. Long Review: This is a Smith Bros. restaurant, and if you're familiar with them, you know you're getting good ambiance and a quality meal. Smitty's has been around a long time, so yes its mostly snow birds and families. This isn't the hipster spot you'll find in Eagle Rock or elsewhere, but it is a nice place to have a relaxing dinner. The wine list is ok, and they have a full bar. This place is ripe to revisit its wine selection, and retrain their bartenders to serve hand-crafted cocktails instead of the classic Sidecar drinks they've perfected. But hey, I guess they're playing to their audience. Like I said, quality food so you can't go wrong with what you get. I think one of the best things on the menu is the salmon salad. Very good and filling, with the right mix of ingredients to make it well-balanced. The one thing reservation I have with Smitty's is the inconsistency of the wait staff. Some are super friendly, and some are just calling it in. But if you can get past that, this is a fine dining experience. Minus two stars for the limited wine selection and the just ok staff attitudes. read more

Overall the cornbread and Mac n cheese with ham was delicious Also I ordered two sides of chives and those were forgotten for the baked potato. What's a baked potato with the works without chives? I always have a great time at the bar at Smitty's the patrons and bartenders are always friendly. Their complementary house made chips are so good. They make an excellent martini with blue cheese stuffed olives for garnish and their old fashions are good too. The food is tasty. Steaks are cooked to perfection.
