Ordered a " Prime " burger platter .... Specifically asked for the bun to be toasted . Also asked that the fries to be crispy .... Neither was .... The bun was " waterlogged" my fingers went right through the bun ... the fries were flimsy & cold ... granted my order was take out ... but I waited 10 min . for it to be completed .... Went in at lunch time to pick up a carryout order. I walked in and the girl at the register was also a server. It seems as if she was cashing out a table. My problem is that she did not say one word to me and just let me stand there. Finally she spoke and said someone will be right with you. I understand being busy but never too busy to acknowledge the person standing right in front of you. However, the food was good!!! read more

Smitty's is an Elyria favorite! Their original location used to be much smaller and in downtown Elyria but they opened the current location almost 20 years ago. Smies is known for their "Smitty burger" which is their take on a McDonald's big Mac. They even have a junior Smitty burger if you're not feeling a full size. They have lots of different apps to start with. My personal favorite are the fried cheese curds. They have a huge menu, consisting of sandwiches, salads, burgers, wraps, hotdogs, even full-size dinners and much more. There is a restaurant section and a bar section. They also have a nice patio where you can enjoy a drink and relax in the sun . I'm not sure if they still have it but they used to have a corner dedicated to President Barack Obama from when he visited back in 2010 and had a Smitty burger. Smitty's is a place I really used to enjoy when I was younger, but I do feel like over the past several years. The quality of the food is not what it used to be. I will still continue to patronize Smitty's though because it's so nostalgic for me. read more

WHERES THE BEEF?? 1st and last experience. Bar was noisy,(ok,it did have a dining area.) The conversation at the bar was women's boobs,very inappropriate. I had heard good things about Smitty's so I couldn't wait to try it. The parking was ample, the restrooms clean. The staff so very friendly and welcoming. The chili was delicious. The beef soup was delicious. The wrap sandwich delicious The fish dinner horribly disappointing. I needed to discard the fish in fear of getting sick. It tasted bad & had an odor. The sandwich was plain and did not come with any toppings. I will never order the fish again. $13 wasted. We ordered off of the googled menu on line. The prices have gone up substantially from what's advertised. I understand that. I will return again. Next time I'll order the soup and salad. read more

The family went out for dinner and the wait was long and unnecessary. Everyone's food was ok but I ordered a Italian sausage sandwich with onions and green peppers and marinara sauce, sandwich comes out and NO marinara sauce and it's even advertised on there menu, I've ordered it three times and the same thing no sauce. You complain and that falls on deaf ears, so simple solution don't go to Smitty's. read more

After multiple disappointing attempts to eat dinner late only to find out the doors were locked hours before the closing time posted on the door; or being told that the kitchen was closed, I called in advance tonight to ask about when the kitchen closed. The person that answered the phone was very polite and responded our "our kitchen closes at 10:00". So I drove 40 minutes from work and arrived at 9:05 and was told that the kitchen was already closed. Terrible customer service. Especially when the sign says 11:00 on the door. Unless you plan to go no later than 7:45 ( the last time I tried to go there and the doors were locked) don't bother. It's not worth the frustration. And there are other places in town to get a burger with Mayonnaise, dill sauce and dehydrated onions. read more

I walked in and placed an order for a bacon cheeseburger. I waited 20 minutes to get the order. When I got home not only did I find no bacon on the burger but no condiments either. It was a patty with American cheese on a bun. It was a low quality meat and tasted lousy. I took one bite and threw it out. The fries that came with it were ok. I would NOT recommend this bar restaurant to anyone. It was insulting that they would even serve that to anyone! Stay far away! read more

I have always had an amazing experience at Smitty's Place. I've been going there since a little kid with my dad and sister and the service has always been phenomenal. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, the food delicious, and the signature Smitty burger always hits the spot especially with their amazing cheese curds. The food was exactly what I needed after flying in the day before for a wedding. According to the locals the sauce is top secret, I would keep the recipe secret too if I had sauce this good. Haven't been here in awhile because of prior poor experience but heard they were under new management and we decided to try it again. My friend ordered 6 wings ( for $10 mind you ) and they looked like they came from a Cornish hen. They drumstick was literally the size of her thumb. I don't think I've ever seen punier wings in my life. When she asked about it the server said she'd have cook drop more. So 10-15 min later she brings out 2 more teeny wings. It was laughable. So if you're looking to get something worth the price I do not recommend here. Overpriced for what you get and nothing good to note. I wish I had taken a photo. read more

My first time there and last. 4 of us came in at 6:30pm and they weren't very busy. We got seated right away but we waited 15 minutes while 2 employees were cleaning up after a big group rather than waiting on us. We weren't offered water or any drink. My sister and I decided to try out as many of the Lenten fish fries as possible. This means I will be eating at various perch places over the next 5 weeks. Smitty's was yesterdays pick. To say it was a disappointment is being kind. The 2 stars were given because the wait staff were very nice, not because the $15 perch fish fry was good. I believe it was perch although it was an over cooked pale yellow crusted pretender to the throne of a real deep fried fresh perch version. It looked baked rather than being a fresh fish dropped in hot oil to come out golden brown and delicious. The only saving grace about this meal was the cole slaw which was excellent. read more

Perfect for a quick lunch break. The building and menu are old school (the burgers are frozen and the use crinkle fries)... but they have been true to the origial intent. I went to the place sat down and ordered an app, the app was served (chicken wings) and one of the wings was completely inedible just like the rest, but this one I should have taken a picture of. After the app it took almost 20 minutes for the waitress to come ask for our order while the table next to us was seated, ordered and brought food before I could even order my entree. 0/5 would not recommend some of the fatties most disgusting wings I've ever ate and awful service. I'm sad. The Smitty burger used to be something to marvel at. You would open the container and drool everywhere. Now its just sad. The fries are the crappy crinkle ones and the meat patties are premade frozen yuckieness. The side salad is lettus with the 'secret' sauce and that's it. I guess if you're looking for slightly sub-standard bar fare straight from the freezer, Smitty's might be the way to go. I think it's incredibly lazy for a bar/restaurant that has a deep fryer to serve frozen onion rings or breaded mushrooms straight out of the bag, but to then charge $2.25 or $3.60 (respectively) for them??? Ridiculous. Even the "legendary" Smitty burger has declined in recent times. This was the 1st restaurant that I tried on Yelp! My mom remembered hearing something about the President's visit and we read the great review from Rachel, so we thought we'd check it out. It was fabulous. We didn't try the burgers, but had the appetizer special- nothing like good fried bar food and also had the potato soup which was really good. We also enjoyed the french fries. They were crinkle cut, but thin, not thick, which made them really good. And, our meal was extremely reasonable. We'll be back. read more

this place is not new. locally its legendary. burgers are what everybody comes for. they have a grilled cheese burger that is off the charts good. i came for a chili dog. it was a monster too. i wasn't disappointed. it's not the kind of dawg you can eat with one hand in three bites by riding a bicycle though. 100% all meat jumbo fatboy weeniewikll hit the spot. it's a handful so plan on using two and pass the napkins. chili is meaty and is hard pressed to stay inside the confines of the bun. high quality frank in a fresh bun dazzled with that stick to your ribs chili will climb to the top of your flavor tree and hit every branch on the way down. place is as clean as its gonna get and service is agreeable but give you elbow room too. don't plan on eating two of these behemoths unless you skipped breakfast. even then I'm not sure i could finish the second one. they've got a good thing going on here. read more

Went for lunch and had the honey mustard wrap. Good basic wrap but the service was pretty slow. It was very packed and it seems like a lot of locals go there.
