Cool old building. Loads of movie memorabilia. Standard movie snacks. Staff was friendly and helpful. Auditoriums reminded me of elementary school. Fun place to check out.

We weren't even supposed to be here that day. A spur of the moment road trip took us 120 miles to a certain grocery store. After geeking out and plenty of picture taking we discovered Kevin Smith has a cinema right up the way. Great prices, clean and quaint. Pretty cool experience knowing you're sitting in the childhood theater of a great Director, producer, writer and actor. You know, there's a million fine looking women in the world, dude. But they don't all bring you lasagna at work. Most of 'em just cheat on you.

    Welcome

Filmmaker Kevin Smith reopened his childhood theater in New Jersey under the name of Smodcastle Cinemas. Smith announced the deal back in August, and has big plans for the moviehouse, which includes a merch store in the lobby, a "film school camp" for young, aspiring filmmakers, and of course, plenty of special screenings of cult classics, including Smith's own movies, complete with Q&A sessions, special events, and marathons. Smodcastle Cinemas already has profiles set up on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, where you can get details on upcoming screenings and event

Quaint movie theater with lots of great artwork and ambiance. Great for families or a date night. Probably even a birthday party

My children got lectured and the worker there told my kids to shut the fuck up. It was very disrespectful and traumatic.

Hello Darlings…read more.. Hubs and I stepped out in Asbury today! Glory! First time at this theater on Cookman Ave and without further ado we must get to the matter at hand... It's right off Main St between the Cookman Creamery and The Speakeatery (review forthcoming). It's a small, three-auditorium cinema. Each theater has a capacity of roughly 70 seats, with about 6 or 7 rows. The screen is appropriately sized for the space and the sound quality is nice. It's comfortable, clean, and very tasteful. A Sunday matinee sees about $13 per ticket (seniors $11) for first-run films. The concession stand has the standbys in addition to some prepared by local businesses on the thoroughfare. Unless you're following Your Host's Low-Carb Life, please take advantage of their concessions, as this is apparently the main avenue of the theater's profit margin, which in turn, keeps them in business. The only peeve Your Host has is the number of previews you get exposed to before the main feature. Fortunately darlings, that's far fewer than what you get when you head out to the major multiplexes...those seem to go on for ever and a day... Overall, our debut visit to The Showroom was marvelous nonetheless. They will be taking over the Beach Cinema in Bradley Beach in the coming weeks, and we look forward to visiting them at that location when it opens. Oh yes...Jonathan...have you been here? TTFN

While I hate to give any historic building like this a low rating I can't honestly give it more…read morethan two stars without completely lying. Is it a cool old building with some beautiful details? Sure. Is it a good venue for any show with sound? Definitely not. Is the building one giant safety hazard by modern standards? Ummm...I'll leave this one up to who ever is handing out C of O's in Asbury Park. When I saw that Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes were going to be showing their new film at this theater I scooped up two tickets for me and my husband. There wasn't much detail on the tickets besides the start time of 6pm. When we arrived around 5:30pm we were greeted to a huge line that wrapped in front of the theater and down Ocean Ave. Turns out the doors didn't open until 6pm and the show didn't start until after 7pm. We were about midway on the line and when we got to security the guy in charge of security was yelling at everyone checking bags and people to speed it up. My bag was barely checked and they didn't even use the metal detector wand on my husband. Can't even imagine that they checked anyone at all after us. We walked upstairs and decided to grab a couple of drinks and snacks. Again we were greeted to huge lines which only got worse when everyone else started coming in behind us. We walked in to go to our seats. The usher was very nice and overly concerned about telling us where not to step and to watch our step. I didn't really notice the lack of handrails until we sat down. The railings in the balcony area are definitely not adequate. They are either extremely low or non-existent. Although the rows have a decent amount of space in front of you the actual seats are very small and on top of each other. My biggest issue here is the sound. We saw a movie and people speaking on stage so it wasn't as bad as I imagine any kind of music performance would be. There was no speakers at all in the balcony area (unless they were off). The only speakers I noticed were on each side of the stage. When the movie started it sounded like we were watching a bad bootleg. The acoustics in the theater were awful. I think this could be an amazing theater once again but it needs some major work throughout to get there.
