Super easy. I found the coupon online and made my way out to Shattuck to get my star certified smog check. I went to the spot, parked the car and kept it on. The guy said it would take 10 minutes and i waited about 4 until he said it was ready. I could not believe how fast it was. When my dad told me I had to go get a Smog Check, I really didn't know what to expect. But thankfully Yelp came to my rescue and up popped "Smog Check Berkeley." If you search up "Smog Check" on Yelp in Berkeley, this place is usually the top 1-2. Looking at the perfect rating, I decided to give this place a try. My friend and I drove here around 10am on Sat and there was only one truck there in front of us. The nice gentlemen who worked the Smog Check came and greeted us ever so kindly. I think he knew that I had no idea what to expect, and he genuinely told me everything that was going to happen. He quickly gave me an estimate and told me that it would be $25.00. Make sure to mention Yelp! (it's a win win for him and you!). He told me that the check would take about 30 minutes (give or take bc of the guy in front of us), but it actually took 15. Such efficiency! In the end, he kindly charged me the $30 (with additional fees) and asked if I could rate his services on Yelp. You bet because you definitely made my morning! Location: close to home so it was very convenient. Gas prices are decent too. Service: Called ahead to get a smog check and the tech was very nice and professional. Got there on a weekday at 2pm and there was no one there - yay NO LINE! The actual testing took about 10 min. Price: $25. Okay, what more can I say when the price is that cheap! I checked prices at a few places. This was the absolutely the lowest price! Pre 2000 vehicles cost more to check because they have to put the car on a dynamometer. My car is a 1999. Other places charge $69.00 and $98.00 for pre 2000 cars! The guy was friendly and fast. There were four cars in front of me and he told me it would be about 45 minutes. I think I was out of there in about 1/2hr. I went there Sunday about 1:30pm. I don't need wi-fi or free coffee at a place. I want quality service at a reasonable price. Smog Check Berkeley is the place! PS. I wouldn't slam a place if they charge me the regular price and then I later found out there was a coupon for a lower price. It pays to shop around. He even reminded me to make sure I pay the registration before the due date. I have been guilty of that in the past. read more

This place is GREAT! Not only because it was one of the only places open on a Sunday (phew!), but because the proprietor was so welcoming and friendly, while also getting down to business. There's also a great coupon that makes the price great as well. He smog-checked my car, and also gave me advice on a minor mechanical issue, and it was clear he cares. Although I bummed my car did not pass the smog check, due to a broken monitor, Mohammed was very helpful and showed me that I could apply for a $500 maintenance scholarship through the BAR California website. He walked me through it at the shop on the spot, and about a week later I got a confirmation letter in the mail stating I qualified for the discount. Only if I could give this business less than one star....one of the worst customer service I've ever encountered! The person who owns/works at this place was really rude and dismissive. The minute I walked up to him to inquire about a smog check, he said to leave my car and come back in 30 minutes without providing any additional context/information about the service. When I asked for clarifying questions, he started to get hostile and said, "I run the business, not you!" As for pricing, he quoted me at $49.99, which is absurd because other smog test stations in the area charge $29.99 for the type of car I own. I ended up going to 15 Minute Smog Test on Sacramento Street in Berkeley, where I received over the top customer service for a reasonable price and I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. This smog check was a breeze! I was expecting a long line like oil change. I got there at 9:10 and waited for about 10 mins only as there was only one car in front of me. Once it was my turn, I asked about price ahead of time since some Yelp reviews had said they weren't clear on the price. The guy told me that he would give me the Yelp discount of $29.95+8.25ish for the gate certificate. However, if it doesn't pass the first time and he has to test again, it will be the regular price of 49.95. I'm assuming that includes the state certificate price, but I'm not sure. The actual test took less than 10 mins and I was out the door for ~$38! Fast, friendly service that took up very little of my previous weekend time! read more
