Been coming here for a couple decades now and the service is always excellent. They do one thing and they do it quickly, professionally and with a smile. I've almost never had to wait longer than 15 minutes to get my cars smogged and, with newer vehicles, the process is getting quicker so they can get through cars faster now. My First smog test was quickly coming due on my car... being kind of new to Huntington Beach I had to find a new smog check provider. Based on yelp reviews, I narrowed down 2 locations based on customer service and price. The first location I called had a prerecorded message. Then I called the Smog Depot and it went to voicemail.. a few seconds later, I get a call back from Joey - who confirmed his availability for a smog! Pros based on other local business reviews: - Live person running the business - others seemed automated/impersonal - $55 for smog, I think that was the lowest I could find. Add'l fee for card payment processing - He has a waiting room Also, my tire sensor light has historically been on... some kind of glitch. Joey still checked my tire pressure (which is so appreciated since I am horrible at remembering to check)... he also identified the sensor issue, where previous service providers have tried to use the tire light as an up sale on a fake "issue". I wanted to highlight this as someone who appreciates good people and local companies. This location is very clean, organized and the staff is very friendly, professional, and great quality with awesome value. In 2021, we were required by the DMV to smog check all our cars so that we could get our California 2021 stickers. So, we smog checked our 4 different cars (we don't own any EV cars.) We brought in my daughters Ford Mustang, her Ford Windstar, my Ford Escape, and even my Mom's Dodge Caravan to get smogged . My Mom's car was not passing at another smog check, but it passed here after the owner gave me some very helpful advice. He-advised since the car had a brand new battery we had to drive the car for 100 to 150 miles to add memory to the car. It passed after that. The owner is very helpful - he advised me about my car (there is a recall on the ignition key connection); that advise saved me $450.00! He provides s great added value. They prefer cash over credit cards, and the smog check is performed pretty quickly, with great service and professionalism. Dang! How two years fly by and my vehicle registration required a pass smog check certificate. Bad news, I'm two years older. The good news, my 2010 Tacoma (over 250k miles) passed AND the service here was still top notched. Drove in with no appointment, handed over my keys, and after a few emails to check on, the smog test was done. The owner was friendly and professional. I never compared price for this service (I'm sure the fees are quite similar), but have recommended friends to take their vehicle here based on their great customer service history. Awesome service here! The staff is quick, accurate and friendly. They are located within a plaza that houses a bunch of garages so keep your eyes peeled. Also keep in mind it's a ONE WAY ONLY plaza. Smog Depot is good because the guy is the owner and the worker. He's a friendly guy but I didn't catch the name. He's knowledgeable and there is no wasted time, no need for an apt. Just go there and never taken more then 15 or 20 minutes. I've came back 4 times so 8 years a customer. I have an older car and it leaks some fluids, that's just kinda the way it goes with older cars, and even though they are just a smog place the gentleman still spotted where a coolant leak was coming from and was able to show me, which will now make it easier for me to repair, so I appreciate that. read more

I went to get my smog check, and the estimate was higher than I was expecting. The person behind the counter indicated that the discount was for 2013 cars and newer (for most places, it is 2000 and newer). That's fine, it was my bad for not reading the fine print. I told the guy, "I'll take a pass," and he says, "Wow." Uh, okay. He could have said something like, "Okay, sir, have a good day." All together, the smog and certificate would have cost me $48 and change. Tomorrow, I'm getting the early bird special at a facility in Berkeley for $29 with certificate. I'm willing to pay a bit more for convenience, but not $20, and certainly not to support a business that hires obnoxious people. read more

I have nothing but amazing things to say about Smog Depot. I called before I came in and received a call back pretty fast from Joey who said that there was not anyone there so he could help me out. I came in on a Sunday morning and I was out in about 10 minutes. He was extremely helpful and polite. I didn't have the DMV print out with me for my smog check and that was not a problem. I arrived and there was one commercial truck ahead of me. I was bummed because I thought it was going to take awhile for the larger vehicle. It took about 5 minutes. It was my turn. I met Joey, and he was a really nice guy. He honored a coupon I had on my phone (PRINT IT OUT). He took my personal/vehicle information, and then my keys. Well, it was my fault that I hadn't checked my old-ass car's coolant levels in awhile, but I still think Phoebe should have noticed my engine's climbing temperature before the car overheated and started steaming. If it weren't for that and everything had gone as planned, I'm sure my experience would have been a lot better. The location was convenient and the service seemed speedy and friendly otherwise. I didn't really appreciate the back door of the office being left open during testing so that all the car fumes migrated into the waiting area though. But the bathroom was cleaner than I thought it would be. They charge $3 for using your ATM or credit card so be sure to bring cash. I didn't have a lot of time and was stressin to find the place (it was supposed to be at that same intersection) but all the auto shops looked the same and i just kept going in circles. Finally I decided to go with the first test only smog sign I saw. The service for my neighbors 1999 Oldsmobile Alero was $38 (would have been $41 if paid by card) No appointment was necessary and I was in and out in 35 min. They were very friendly and I had no problems at all. It was perfect service in my particular situation and I actually paid $10 less than just smog had quoted the out the door cost would be. read more

I needed a smog test for title transfer for a pickup truck. I searched for smog places here on yelp and called a lot of them to quickly compare how much they'd charge and if they'd offer a retest just in case. There were a lot of places that had coupons or that advertised seemingly low prices, but it turned out there were extra fees for older cars, and additional fees for trucks, etc. In the end, Smog Depot was one of the places that offered the best deals for my old truck, plus I didn't have to wait for an appointment. It cost me $50, all in, for my vehicle, so it would probably be less for newer and smaller cars. The shop is clean and there's a small waiting area. There was no wait when I had my test, and I was probably in and out in 15-25 minutes. The tech (owner?) is friendly and he knows his stuff. This is a smog test only shop, but besides testing and passing the truck, he also spotted a couple of things that needed maintenance on the truck (worn hoses, some leaking fluid) and shared some tips on how I could easily fix those. read more
