I've been coming to Smog Shop Oceanside for the past few years and I really love the service here! The Smog Shop Oceanside is located in Oceanside just off of Oceanside Blvd within the Del Oro Marketplace. A very convenient location and there's plenty of shopping & food options nearby, along with access to the public train. Jaime always provides consistent & friendly service; not to mention fast! Their office is rather small, with only seating for a few customers which may be considered a con. But because of their location, there are plenty of places to go explore & grab a bite while waiting. The Smog Shop Oceanside appears to only take WALK-INS and no appointments. I highly recommend CALLING-AHEAD to get an idea of your possible Wait-Time. The great news is that the service at Smog Shop is extremely fast! It often takes under 20 minutes per vehicle to do a typical inspection. Mine typically takes 15 minutes to complete! Their pricing is extremely fair and it costs under $65 to do my smog inspection for my 2010 vehicle. You can also save money by using CASH as payment, but you can also use credit cards too. Overall, I really love this local, small business and I recommend the SMOG SHOP OCEANSIDE!

I Highly recommend Ken for any and all of your smog testing needs! Excellent fast service, great pricing, and a clean shop and office. Also he's open on weekends so I was able to bring my truck to get a smog done on Saturday rather than having to take time off work during the week to smog it on a weekday. I will be bringing all of my family and work vehicles to Ken from now on when it's time to get another smog test! read more

No appointment needed, got my van in the shop within about 5 minutes. I've got a '90 VW Camper and passing smog is always a bit of a crapshoot. Jaime heard a little hissing from the engine and took the time to look it over and found an ancient rubber vacuum hose that was starting to fall apart, and then another little cracked hose part where the leak was coming from, which probably explains my rough idle. The van still managed to pass, but now I know some problems I need to get fixed that will probably help the thing run better and save problems down the line. No other smog guy has ever taken the time or had the knowledge to do that. Also saw him take the time to explain some things and give some tips to the guy before me with an old Ferrari, that barely passed. Great to see somebody doing this job who is not just pushing buttons on the computer but actually has some helpful knowledge about the vehicles. Highly recommend, especially if you've got an older unique vehicle you're trying to keep running. read more

The owner is a very helpful guy. He has done 3 smog checks for me and the process had been easy and cheap each time. He also noticed a problem with my CV Boots and saved me from making the problem worse. I took it to a reputable mechanic and sure enough they diagnosed the same issue and fixed it. I like to keep all my vehicles in excellent condition and that is why I recommend the smog shop. read more

Fast and friendly and the location is extremely convenient to get into and out of, which is not always the case when they're on busy streets near major intersections. My car was done in 15 minutes and the man who operates it was so kind and patient when while I looked for the registration I had mislaid. Best of all, he pointed out a mechanical issue that I might need to have addressed with my mechanic. read more

Came for a smog early in the morning and Ken had already let a couple customers in a little before 9:00am to fill out their paperwork ahead of time. I brought an online coupon that my bf printed out for me and got a smog check + certificate for $40. I was there no more than 30 minutes with two customers ahead of me and Ken was working by himself! read more

I needed to get a smog right away. I am new to the area, so I relied on my YELP friends for a good place to go. I Found it! Travis got me in within minutes and got me out within the ten minutes that he promised. The shop is clean and Travis was professional and helpful. He even told me about the coupon on his website that saved me $20.00! I highly recommend this business. read more

I went in and they said that they will try and smog my jeep. If it didn't pass they will give me a free retest and he wrote it on the paper. I went back and they didn't honor the writen note on the paper and wanted to charge me 40 more for a retest. This is the second time I have been to the place and nothing but hassles. My advice stay away from here. read more

After the machine that tests 95 and older vehicles was down yesterday waiting for calibration I went in today and was told they couldn't help me because they would loose to much money. Wasted two trips there. I now think they just didn't want to help me. Look elsewhere especially if you have a 95 or older vehicle. read more

My car hasn't even been smogged yet and they already get 5 stars from me. When I got out of my car I noticed a loud hissing sound...yep, very fast leak in my tire. Ken was so very kind and helpful. He borrowed a jack from next door and put my spare on for me so I could get to the tire shop. He went WAY above and beyond. That's what I call Customer Service!! read more

Not shady, but not helpful either. My wife took one of our vehicles into get a required smog for registration and when she arrived she presented a Yelp discount of $10.00, great and thank you for the discount. But they didn't go out of their way (lack of customer service) to tell her that they offer a coupon on their website for a smog of 31.75 plus 8.25. Good customer service would have said we offer a coupon on our site and instead of 51.00 its 31... Great move guys have to make that buck! read more

Ken is such an awesome gentleman. No waiting and fast service. My daughter gave me a coupon for someone else and it was cheaper. When I went there he said he only does it on Monday Wednesday and Friday and I would have to go there before noon. He was just sitting in his office reading a book. I told him I needed to get it done because I was going out of town. Just come tomorrow early and I will get it done. I an handicapped and it is hard for me to get around. When I went on Yelp I found smog shop and was so happy to get it done. I didn't care spending a little extra, I knew Ken was someone you can trust. read more

This place has a great new guy. Tried going here a few months ago and there was a horrible person that didn't care about his job or you. I have a lot of cars and always seems to need a smog. This place was close to my house and work. I heard the one guy was no longer working and thought I try again. Glad I did. Ken is a nice guy who cares about his job and your car. read more

Super fast and SO FRIENDLY! I was in and out in 15 minutes, and Faith at the desk is so super nice. If you go see them bring her a RedBull! Haha I would go back here again if I ever had to. The only reason I had to was because I brought my car from another state. But if you need a smog check you will absolutely not be disappointed. They also have a printable coupon on their site (at least right now they do) which makes it 40 bucks with certificate fees. Cheapest I've seen, in my town it's 60. read more

History

Established in 2001.

The Shop was Started by Joe Dianat but due to poor health he passed it on to a new owner in late 2012 to Matthew; revitalized the aged shop with new equipment. Later Matthew brought on board as owners, some of the technicians that worked at the shop (Travis and Ken).

Meet the Business Owner: Ken K and Travis G.

Travis- After many years of hectic Body Shop offices I decided to take my Business Management and Mechanical skills to a business I could run by myself. Smog Shop fit the bill perfectly. Great customer service and fast, efficient smogs is the name of my game. Ken- After working for many years as a Manager in the commercial construction industry, the industry slowed down and I started to shift my focus more on my love of getting under a hood of a vehicle. While working for Smog Shop I demonstrated my automotive knowledge and abilities and was eventually brought on board as a part owner at Smog Shop.

1 star. Do not bring your car here…read more I brought myJeep SRT8 in for a valve cover, oil pan, and crank seal job on 5/8. Got it back 5/13, five days for a two-day quote. It was smoking before I even got back to work. Oil dripping onto the headers. Returned it same day, they re-torqued and sent me home. Still smoking. Dropped it back off 5/14 at 3:10PM. Picked up 5/15. Two lights from the shop my transmission started slipping hard in second gear. Turned right back around. Owner Ricky confirmed the slip on a test drive. His first question was whether I'd done aftermarket work to the transmission, trying to make it my fault before we even got back to the shop. Plugged in a scanner, found an old unrelated stored code, erased it, drove it again. His conclusion: "I don't know what to tell you." I pointed out the transmission was perfect at drop-off. He got angry. Said no one drove it, they only idled it. Then offered to pull camera footage as proof. I said let's go watch it right now. He said he had other things to do. This happened in front of my fiancée and two of his own employees. No intake paperwork was made when I returned the car, no mileage logged for the exact period the transmission failed. What I can tell you is the mileage on my car does not support the story they're telling. A certified third-party inspection from the shop literally 150 feet away documented my transmission passing with zero issues the same morning I dropped off. The oil pan job on the 6.1L HEMI also requires physically moving the transmission for access. They did something and when confronted with the proof, they dodged cameras and kicked me out. BAR complaint filed. Small claims next. Update "Response to Ricky, thank you for responding publicly this actually helps me significantly. You identified yourself here as "Business Manager." When I asked you in person for the owner, you said you were in front of witnesses. That is now publicly documented. Regarding the OBD codes : the stored code found was a historical "lost communication with TCM" event. That is not a transmission mechanical failure code. It is entirely unrelated to active gear slipping. Any qualified technician or BAR investigator will confirm those are two completely different things. Regarding the SRT8 being driven aggressively: on the morning of my drop-off, another shop conducted a certified digital multi-point inspection of my vehicle. 31 of 33 systems passed. Transmission was in the green. The only red flags were the exact leaks I hired you to fix. That inspection is timestamped and on record. A performance vehicle with aggressive driving history does not pass a certified inspection hours before drop-off and then suddenly fail two blocks from your shop after picking up You stated the transmission was not touched. The 6.1L HEMI oil pan job requires the transmission to be lowered for access. It does not need to be fully removed to be disturbed. You also claim no evidence exists linking your repairs to the transmission failure. There is also no intake paperwork from my return visit, meaning no mileage baseline exists for the exact period the failure occurred. That absence of documentation benefits only one party, and it is not me. Your building advertises transmission services. You told me to my face you don't diagnose transmissions. Thank You Sir

You also claim no evidence exists linking your repairs to the transmission failure. There is also no intake paperwork from my return visit, meaning no mileage baseline exists for the exact period the failure occurred. That absence of documentation benefits only one party, and it is not me. Your building advertises transmission services. You told me to my face you don't diagnose transmissions. Thank You Sir

My first use of their services was for alignment for new tires on our 3 autos from www/sd.motoring.com. Since then, we've had new tires and front-end alignment for our daughter's car as well - all great service from both companies! Recently that "daughter auto" was afflicted with a dead battery, leaving me puzzled how you navigate this sort of issue. I called Scot at Accurate Alignment simply trying to put together a plan of action. Not being familiar with the whole towing process, Scot's guidance was welcome in getting the car to his shop to move toward repairs. I hadn't looked to Scot's team as being able to also provide other "SERVICES" as their name suggests. With his help we had the car in his shop, and out with a new battery by 4:30 same day! Scot was his usual helpful, professional, friendly self, guiding me along the towing steps from AAA, to one of their towing agents, and on to Accurate Alignment SERVICES for our needed repairs.
