My goodness, go anywhere else. I am not bashful about bad language, but the amount of F bombs being thrown in my general direction for using a credit card which I was told was a perfectly acceptable method of payment to charge me for an eight dollar certificate because he messed up. The charge was actually insane. Took him almost 30 minutes to correct the problem. Took my car in, passed everything but the "snap test" for visual smoke. The guy tells me it's blue and white smoke, tells me to research the issue and get the needed repairs and return for a free retake. Mind you, I'm standing 10 feet away and see no plume of smoke as they rev it several times. So, they consider the test a fail and make me pay for it. I take my car elsewhere for $40 dollars and they do exactly the same thing, everything passes because there is no blue and white smoke coming from my exhaust. Moral of the story, don't go here. Unfortunately,... Smog is a necessary evil in the State of California. There is the anxiety and worry of your vehicle not passing. Then what? We have to fork out nickel and dime or thru the roof repairs to keep us on the road without law enforcement intervention. We can only stay under the radar for so long while putting it off, and hope we don't get nicked. Fortunately there is a spot that I have been going to in Roseville since the early 1990's. I believe Rich, the guy who writes up your order, is the owner. He is the definition of customer service, with a great personality. Rich has a myriad of funny anecdotes that make the process go a little easier. His level of personability makes you want to take him to the Bar, and buy him a beer about it. Fun and games aside, he does have a serious side. My vehicle did not pass, due to a hose nipple breaking off on the air box lid. He stated that it does not create enough of a vacuum leak to flip the sensor on and make the check engine light on, yet it does not pass the visual inspection, as per the State requirements. It cannot be glued back on or repaired one must acquire a new air box lid and reassemble all of the connections. While it was bad news, he eased the pain by stating that it is a common problem with this type of vehicle and that I could probably find a replacement air box lid at a wrecking yard. Rich explained the State provisions for smog requirements, including his cross referencing the State mandated particulate matter thresholds that are allowed. Hence, do not let his open demeanor and fun attitude fool you. Rich is extremely intelligent and knowledgeable in several subjects, as I would categorize him as a Master of his craft. After talking with Rich, I was disappointed with the failure, yet I still walked away with a smile. Time is precious and the registration on the vehicle was lapsed by a few months. So to expedite the process I took it to my regular shop and they said they could get a new air box lid and replace it on the same day. Friday, I took the vehicle back to Smog Stop and she passed. When foregoing with a smog failure, one is still required to pay for a majority portion of the service, which is a little over $50.00. When I took the vehicle to the same place, ergo Smog Stop, I paid the difference on the second attempt, which was about $8.00. In conclusion, if you want to laugh a little while going through the necessary State B.S. just to drive your vehicle, give Smog Stop a visit, and talk for a while with Rich. When it is busy, you may not receive as much of his attention. Yet, if it is slow, it's all good. The entire staff is very professional and attentive to the service provided. The price in my opinion is reasonable, while the final decision of pass or fail is rendered objectively. Rich will not diagnose the issue, however he can give you a few hints as to what the problem really is, such as my air hose nibble being broken. If I could, I would give Rich and his team at Smog Stop 10+ Stars for Price, Service, and personability. Well done, Gentlemen! read more

Customer service has plummeted, we used to go here and recommend this place for years. But that has all changed now. The political spewing from the customer service guy got old quick even if I agreed with a lot of it. The bad part was when he said the car failed because it was smoking and he proceeded to "try" and show me (there was no smoke). He revved the engine and said see, I replied with I must be smoke blind because I didn't see anything at all (except the smoke from his cigarette). He didn't like that and said he didn't make the call. So I just said thank you and good bye. Went to a different smog shop the very next day and passed with flying colors. I wish I could give negative stars. Never going here again and will tell all I know not to. read more

This man is an asshole. Told me to come by to get my car smogged. When I showed up he turned me down and said , "sorry not taking any more customers for the day." I said, "but we just talked on the phone and you said you can service my car today." He then proceeded to say, "yeah sorry first come first serve." These guys used to be great and had good honest employees. Not now. I took my car in and they broke one of my air injection lines for the air ride suspension and then failed it for the broken piece plus said it was smoking. It passed the computer smog fine and I checked for smoke myself and there just wasn't any. I went to another smog place after fixing my suspension vacuum line which SMOG Stop had broken and it passed without any problem. I no longer trust these guys and will not be going back read more
