Never, never, never! I know it is difficult to smog an older vehicle and there are few options, but this guy will take your money and fail you. My mechanic told me he gets 4 to 5 customers per month needing help after failing at Smog Stop in Roseville. This man who seems to run the shop has an old machine that is junk and he complains about it all morning, takes your money, and fails you. He gives you a free retest which is useless because you need a test and repair station which will do your smog check anyway. After my failed smog check, I went to Automotive Service of Roseville. The first thing they do is run a test and I passed. Lots of unnecessary aggravation. Just start at ASR and don't throw your money away at Smog Stop. read more

Just got back from getting my SUV smogged here-and was very pleased with the service. I called yesterday to check hours and if open as I heard from one place they had closed down- not true. I started to call, got interrupted and realized that it was about 2 minutes after 5PM by the time I pushed the button to make the call, but a pleasant sounding guy named Richard answered, and quickly gave me the info I asked about hours: 8-5, first come, first served, told me price for my vehicle, but added that they took competitor's coupons if I brought one, which could save me some $. I tried to ask minimal amount quickly, realizing it was past time for them to be closed & feeling badly about it, but Richard did not make me feel rushed, or that he was impatient or annoyed about it, so I said I'd be there in the AM. I arrived about 2 minutes to 8AM and Richard walked outside to say hello, as he recognized the vehicle I had described (I apologized again about calling so late and he said no problem). I found another lady already seated inside waiting for her car to be finished. She seemed happy with the service she was getting and how she was treated also. Richard told me I had option of using the coupons I had, but those prices did not include a free re-test as their full price did. I asked how much for a re-test if needed & he said it would be same as I paid for this test (coupon price), which was not bad, in my opinion since my vehicle is all-stock and well-maintained and has always passed, so I chose the coupon price- and maybe 10 minutes later was walked out to my car- he even opened the door of the car for me and said see you next year- yep, I plan to bring the truck in next year. I really did not meet the technician who did the testing, but he drove my car carefully, did the job quickly and did not get any dirt or grease on any part of the interior (I do keep the engine compartment, etc pretty clean also) so I am happy with them, too. Apparently they have several technicians, so no wonder the friend who referred me says they are always quick. I figure I got all the info I needed up front, given without even asking for most of it, was treated pleasantly, had a good job done, my car handled nicely, was done in short order....what's not to like here? Absolutely amazing customer service.!!! I have been smogging all of my cars here for years. They have always been fast, friendly and efficient. Recently I had an issue here where for some reason the information did not get sent to DMV . I contacted the manager/owner Dave and he went above and beyond to help me. He found my information after some digging. Got my car smogged again and took care of everything. We all know that accidents happen but it is what a business does to solve problems and take care of customers that puts them into the A++++++ category. Don't hesitate to go to this shop. I have been a customer here for approx 20yrs, the service has always been quick and efficient. If I could I would rate them a zero!!! This experience is the worst ever. Had my son home from college, needed to have his car smogged, asked him to pull a coupon from the Internet. As college students do he pulled the coupon on the phone. Upon arriving they said they couldn't take a coupon that's listed on the internet, really? they advertise on the Internet. The coupon didn't say that it needed to be printed. The response from the employee was only that's the owners rules? We called to express our concerns and our loyalty to them, he said sorry that's the owners rules there's nothing I can do about it. He wouldn't even call the owner. I feel like picketing this place! On top of that at the point of purchase they charged a 3% fee for a debit card? I will never go back and we have 5 cars in the family. Very very disappointed! read more

RV Smog - they wanted to charge an hourly rate to remove the "Dog House" so my husband drove home and within 10 minutes it was off (saved money there). The RV is an 01 but the Chevy van it's on is a 2000 - I specifically explained that to them and the wrote 2000 Chevy on the smog paperwork for the tech. The tech entered 2001 into the computer and then tells me it won't pass because the cat converter is after market and not on the CA approved list. So home we go again and look at this site -http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/devices/amquery.php...... guess what, our cat converter is on that list, so we print it off and go back to Smog Stop the next day - "Oh Sorry" is all we get and they want us to wait at the back of the line...WTH? Are you kidding this is our 3rd trip over there in 2 days and I had to do their "research" for them.. either they need re-training or a new software program with an updated list from ARB. read more

I will never have a car smogged here again and will tell everyone I know to never go here. I failed my smog test because I had 1 monitor not ready. In the state of California you are allowed 1 monitor to be incomplete on a 2000 and up vehicle. The older lady at the counter couldn't explain to me why I failed because of 1 monitor not being ready. she just kept saying it just says monitor not ready. The person who "smogged" my car also broke my ebrake release handle. I took my car to smog king the next day, who is open on sundays, with my 1 monitor not ready (which i confirmed with my scanner) and passed with flying colors. Should have went to a real smog place to begin with. read more

The lady at the front desk was friendly and pleasant, and the service technician was incredibly nice and even answered every question my 14 year old son had patiently. I've been bringing our cars here for smog and they were always great and fast. I had 1 bad experience with them for something silly sort kind of a hose bracket needs to be replaced. They didn't smog the car and was going to coast a lot of money to fix to replace more than a bracket. I decided to take it to a different shop and passed smog with no problems. If it's for that experience I would've give Zero star. But I don't like to react because of 1 negative worker over there. After about a year, other 2 cars of our's need smog. I decided to give them another shot knowing that they are the fastest! Honestly they are! We got lucky with the first one and the second one as I'm used to them fast and friendly new staff at the front desk! I wish I remember his name I would've mentioned it. Today I brought a friend of mine to smog his car. Again the front desk guy were so friendly. We dropped the car off and left for lunch. Came back! Friendly again at the front desk, joking with us, car passed no problem. They are really doing good job. I'm glad that they exist because going to a smog shop sometimes is a lot of headache. SMOG STOP is a small facility with a streamlined approach to customer service that was impressive. I had at least 6 customers before me; yet, they finished my smog inspection in under 30 minutes. I just took my SUV to Smog Stop a few days ago. It was the weekend so they were busy. The friendly lady at the counter assured me that they move along pretty quickly because they have 3 bays. So I walked over to a variety store nearby while they smogged my vehicle. Pros: They were finished before I got back, and I was pleasantly surprised at the price I was charged. Cons: The waiting area/office is extremely small, there are 5 folding chairs; and they did not call me when the smog was finished. Overall I give this business 1 1/2 thumbs up, and will use them again. read more

So it's been a few months since I got my vehicle smogged and I wasn't going to leave a review until a family member had a similar experience to me. I couldn't sit in the lobby because 3 Smog Stop employees were sitting in the customer chairs, playing on their phones. That's fine. The manager was making off color jokes, which is something I could ignore mostly. I showed him a coupon on my phone for smog king and he said they needed them printed out but would honor it this time, after making me feel like I was causing 'issues' because I hadn't printed it. That's fine, it's 2018 but whatever. All of this by itself was manageable and they finished my smog very fast. The 3 stars are because of the 'low class' feel of the experience and how I was treated. I didn't say anything to family but my family member re-keyed her house after leaving her house key on the key chain when they smogged her car. She had a bad vibe from the staff and spent the $200 to have the house re-keyed. If a fast smog is all you care about, Smog King did that excellently. Just thought it'd be important for people to know 2 people's experience there. I'm sure there are people who have had better luck there but I won't be going back. read more

I don't know how someone would write a negative review for a place that is a test-only facility, thinking that they will repair your car if it fails. You would have to be pretty stupid to think that they are going to fix your car since it says that THEY ARE A TEST ONLY SMOG FACILITY!!! Beware of this place! Had been a customer for quite a few years. They accept competitors coupons, but don't offer the free retest that they offer when not using the coupon... They take the competitor's coupon and attach it to the clipboard that the technician uses so the technician knows you're getting a discount... The technician then can do a more 'thorough' inspection, particularly for the 'visual inspection' portion of the smog test. Having worked in engineering at a major auto manufacturer for many years, with experience in emissions testing, I know that the condition the Smog Stop technician failed my vehicle for was not one that affected the emissions of my vehicle, but was rather a convenient excuse to fail the vehicle. Even if they change their practice of attaching the paperwork and competitors coupon to the clipboard, they can easily come up with another 'code' to let the technicians know to do an 'extra thorough' exam of your car, such that you have a higher likelihood of being 'failed' when getting a discount. There is a definite conflict of interest when they accept competitors coupons, but then say they don't offer the retest. read more

I had been going here for years until my last visit a couple of months ago. The lady at the counter is always very friendly and courteous, however the techs are the exact opposite, Rude, and Mean. I have never been treated worse for any service I was paying for ! The techs have told me in the past with my older vehicles to run them get them hot and bring it in while the engine is hot and ready. I am waiting out front with my older truck running and the tech yells to the other tech this ASS thinks he going to pass smog by revving up his engine. I had my window down as apparently he did not care that I heard. When he came to pick up my truck I told him that the other techs had told me to keep the engine running and hot. His sly reply as he turned his back on me--was that no one here would say that. He took my truck and pulled it into the bay and turned it off for over 15 minutes while he went to the office got a drink and went to the other bay and talk with the other tech. PURPOSELY letting it cool off to spite me and of course failed me! I took it to Rocklin Smog and they took good care of me $ 40 with coupon and passed first time. read more

I brought my truck here because I have come here for years. The young man behind the counter was unfriendly and abrupt. I was charged $25.00 for the test, and even though the truck passed on all levels, the technician said that it failed because of my Volant cool air intake. Well the Volant cool air intake is exempt from CARB. And I explained that to the smart a** in the office. The technician was also abrupt and dismissive. They would not refund my $25.00 even though they were wrong about the intake. You see these guys don't really know what to do if they have to do more than plug your car in. They don't have the education or experience to properly smog many different cars (I saw the comment by someone else that they could not find the marking on the fan belt? very odd). If you go to Quality Tune Up on Douglas, you can get your car smogged for $38.50. They had the experience and know-how to properly smog my truck. I did go back and show the smog results to the guy in the office. I also showed him that internet site that shows that the Volant is exempt. They still owe me $25.00. read more
