I've been going to this place for a few years now for both family cars. This review is based on my experience today. I took my truck in today. The employee behind the desk was courteous. He did make me go back out to my vehicle to get the mileage - he could have done that. He told me it would take about an hour - no big deal in the middle of the day. I gave him my cell and asked him to call me when the vehicle was done. Here's the drawback to this business - the "waiting" area has three chairs in it and is very crowded. Waiting there for an hour is just a really bad option. So I walked about 1/2 mile down to Starbucks to get some work done. I waited until an hour and 15 minutes went by and walked back. My truck was waiting, but I hadn't received a phone call. I asked the same employee behind the counter and he forgot to call me. Bottom line - price is fine, and it's relatively quick. Service has always been pretty decent ; I haven't had the bad experiences that other reviewers have noted. Just have a plan to either sit there or walk to a nearby restaurant or coffee place. read more

I always come here to get my car smogged. Easy location, friendly service. Most of the time they are fast (especially if you go early). I know it's a car shop, but it is pretty dirty in the waiting area. Look for clipper or penny saver coupons. read more

I came here today on my lunch break for my free retest. Unfortunately, my car didn't pass, again, but Ken gave me another free retest anyway! The waiting area is small but the staff is really nice and they have you in and out in an hour. They also take competitors' coupons but, they do not provide a free retest if you use a competitor's coupon. read more

I originally went to this place because it's the cheapest in town. They are quick too. But they asked for my registration and then never gave it back. I didn't realize it until I pulled into my driveway. When I went back they said they didn't have it and they would have never lost it. Absolutely ridiculous. First my mom brought our vehicle in and they wouldn't pass the smog due to some apparent break and/or holes in the oil dipstick tubing. Upon it being fixed, I took this vehicle in for my mom and they still refused to pass it. First it was because this oil dipstick tube wasn't "replaced" it was repaired which is all that needed to be done nor did I get showed what the major issue was with it being repaired. The other issue was they tried to tell me that the vehicle wasn't even communicating with the computer. Weird that it wasn't because it had worked just fine when it was brought in a little over a week ago. The tech that looked at the truck was an asshole and had an attitude when I asked him to show me and explain why it wasn't passing. processing to dispute payment to them for fraudulent acts because guess what, took it to another smog place 30 mins later closer to my home and it was passed in less than 10 mins. Just like any other trump supporter and fascist asshole in the world, they're money hungry and would do anything to make a quick buck even if it means being a fraud. read more

The great team at Smog Stop, where I was referred to by an auto dealer's service manager, took care of my two vehicles very professionally and efficiently. I have gone here for many years and this is the first year I've had a problem... our 2 year Dodge Ram diesel truck didn't pass smog???? I couldn't believe it.... the engine has not be altered in any way... so either the smog testers are scamming me... a female.... or Dodge is.... I went straight to Dodge and they said there is nothing wrong with the truck... I paid with cash and the attendant would not write on my paper paid in cash.... ??? Wow.... Big Mistake going here.... will be the Last Time!!! I noticed another lady had similar situation.... scamming women .... be care women coming here!!! So hubby went back as offered for free retry and again no pass... we found out that a warranty repair on our dodge was done and Dodge reset the computer .... so after traveling over 500 miles we went back to smog testing and passed with flying colors.... so it seems what sometimes it looks like ... is not always the correct answer.... Unfortunately the dreaded one star for a business that managed to lose a long time customer. It's rare I would ever take the time out of my day to even a leave review, but to leave a one star review at that, not what I planned to do this morning. I've gotten 2 cars smogged here previously one a Corvette, and the other a 4runner. I was recommended to a STAR smog station every time I needed an inspection. So I've had very few problems here in the past, fast forward to this point when my brother and I decided to get our completely stock mustang smogged here since I've dealt with them in the past and it didn't go as planned. Our tech had a chip on his shoulder the entire time, and his actions showed he assumed we were up to something no good. Being profiled is not what we came here for. After failing our car because he him self was not capable of matching the front and rear cat #'s we were shocked as the car has been maintained within standard Calfornia law never modifying anything. They charged us for the fail and we took it to another local Roseville smog shop, and it passed with flying colors and all the numbers were good! As we thought, the car was perfectly fine, so we took the PASSED smog paperwork showing that it's CALIFORNIA LEGAL and they still refused to give us our refund charging $50 for an incompetent employee's mistake. If you work hard for your money, you can appreciate that $50 is a lot of money to spend, and to feel as if someone has swiped it from your pocket is absolutely disgusting. As a fellow business owner it is honestly so sad to see a business suffer at the hands of a single individual, but I would hope that no one else has to experience this time wasting nightmare so here's the one star. We will be contacting the California Bureau of Automotive Repair to get it sorted out. read more

Took my 02 Tacoma 4x4 Trd Quad Cab to Smog Stop today and had a great experience! Was in and out so fast I didn't even get my ear phones in my ear to watch a Netflix show to kill time! Lol. Much better experience than last year! Guy at the counter was funny and very friendly and quick! They processed 4-5 of us in less than 20 minutes. I am very happy to have passed. Only bummer is even though they said they update directly to Dmv right away I can't register the truck yet. Online at Dmv is still doesn't show the smog pass. As other reviewers have said write down your mileage before you go in!!! read more

I should have looked at yelp before going to this places , my wife went here with are car with after market intake and they failed her , when the tech opened the hood and knew the intake wasn't carb legal they as a good business should've told us at very beginning this car will not be able to the smog test because of this reason but yet they take it in and come back and say It won't pass because of that and still charges the $45 ... You guys knew from when you opened the hood and saw the intake that it wouldn't pass but still hooked up for the smog , shame on you guys read more

I live in Sacramento but have used them for a previous smog check so I made the drive down. I was able to slip in right before they stopped taking cars (technically he could have turned me away but he didn't). Guys were great and funny. Service was super quick - I waited 15 minutes tops. read more

We took our 2003 Ford Ranger today but the guy didn't want to test it because he said our truck was supposed to have 5 catalytic converter and he showed us the sticker inside the hood that there were supposed to be 5. He even told us that our truck was in a collision because of the paint inside the hood. We told him we bought the truck brand new in 2003 so there was no way it was in any collision. He said "you never know about the Porters as they have problems with driving cars from the lot and hitting something but never told us about it". He told us to take it to Ford and have them print something about the truck that it only has 4 catalytic converters. My husband knows cars and I know a little bit but we both know that every car or truck only has 1 catalytic converter. He said he would not even test it since it will fail. We left and said to each other that the guy must be delusional. We decided to take it to Smog & Go but didn't tell the people there what was said at this other place. Guess what? Our truck passed and the technician didn't even say anything about the catalytic converter. Needless to say, that's the last time we would go to the Smog Stop. We had always used them and even took this same truck several times there and this was the first time someone said it's lacking in catalytic converter. read more

The technician was courteous and efficient (he even told me my air filter wasn't installed correctly and gave me instructions on how to fix it myself). I have used this shop for testing before and I've had relatively good experiences. I went yesterday (February 26) to get a smog test and when I went to use the coupon (displayed on my phone), I was told that they don't accept digital coupons. I explained that I had used the coupon on at least two other occasions and I was told that the lady that had accepted the coupon "gets away with anything because she's the owner's daughter". I asked for clarification - I came here with the intent of using this coupon and you're going to ask me to go home and print it out??? - and he told me that he would not accept the digital coupon. If there's logic behind a decision, I can usually get behind it. The guy behind the counter was rude and had no interest in trying to keep me as a customer. There were no other customers waiting, so it sure seemed like they could have used the business. I ended up going to Roseville Auto Smog on Vernon and used their coupon with no hassles. They will be getting my business (and my referrals) from now on even though their location is not as convenient. Smog Stop: this is 2016. Everything is digital. What sense does it make to ask a potential customer to print out a coupon that you make available for mobile devices (and why wouldn't you state this requirement on your digital coupon)? read more

I get all my vehicles smog tested here. Today I dropped my van off after waiting in line for 15 minutes as the women chatted endlessly with a customer with non related smog conversation. Didn't think too much of it until I went to pick it up. I was waiting patiently in line as the same woman was talking about her grandson. After she was done, a man walked in right in front of me and asked for his car. After telling him I was next, she still proceeded with his transaction. I had a few words to say, but I was the bigger person and let it go. I told the woman that was rude and she didn't seem to care. SCAM!!! Brought my car in for a smog and was told it failed because they couldn't find the mark on the timing belt. Took it to my mechanic, NO PROBLEMS. My mechanic found the mark on the timing belt, re-smogged the car and it passed. Thank you Smog Stop for taking my money for doing absolutely nothing. Run for the Hills because this place is very unprofessional. If I could give a negitive 5 stars I would. We went for a smog and to get the car checked and it was super sketchy. The guys were rude and unfirendly, did not communicate with us at all. Did not let us know what they were doing to the car and then once they did the smog told us we failed. Mind you we just got our car looked at by a mechanic who told us it will pass smog. They didn't have the courtesy to help find a mechanic who was close to help with the issues they said the car had. Told us "Just go anywhere" and then completely write us off and told us there was nothing we could do. We called the mechanic who first looke at our car so they could talk and the guys said we dont talk to other mechanics. They were rude don't know what they are doing and have no respect for their customers. They need to be repoted to BBB. read more

Worst smog place I've ever been to. Saw a coupon in the penny saver and decided to go here. People were absolutely rude and acted like they didn't even want to smog my car. I have an air intake in my car with a C.A.R.B. sticker on it, which makes it legal in California. They must not have taken any sort of certification exam because they failed my car because of that. Go across the parking lot to Big Lots, they can probably do a better job with your car. If I could give this place less than one star I would. read more

I had my wife's car smog at this place year before last past no problem went back again was told they could test as the obd2 plug was broke all to hell they ask me where we had the car last. I went here several years ago it took a long time but was ok, so I didn't bother ever checking the latest reviews, wish I had. The bad reviews are spot on, I suppose someone can luck out now and then, but I would recommend not going here.
